Nice, Good Joy has been a favorite ever since the Chinese spot across the street from my place closed. It may not be the prettiest spot, but it's definitely one of the tastiest for the price. The menu has a solid variety of classic Chinese takeout at decent prices. My go-tos are the General Tso's fish and the scallops--always flavorful and satisfying. As a busy neighborhood takeout, they do what matters most: the food is well packed, hot, and seasoned just right--balanced spice, sweetness, and savory flavor. I usually call in and get delivery, but today I stopped in to order. The place was packed with about a dozen people ahead of me, yet my food was ready in 20 minutes. Once home, everything was fresh, tasty, and generously portioned. Flat roll in pull open door makes accessibility easy. I am disgusted with the service here. I have been ordering Chinese food from here through DoorDash for the past sixth months or so, and it's been okay until today. Earlier this week I ordered shrimp and broccoli and the shrimp reeked like it was old and tasted awful. I have ordered this a few times and never before this week have I had this issue with the food not tasting fresh. Today I ordered three orders of chicken wings and was charged $18.00 for it along with the rest of my order that totaled $59.27 with door dash fees $65.75. When the delivery came two orders of chicken of chicken were missing. I called to ask for the other two orders to be brought as I would any other place if food was missing that I paid for. I call back and they were arguing with me unreasonably, yelling through the phone two women that it was one order because on their receipt it said $6.00. Itsaid and they sent me the receipt said 3x chicken wings ($6.00) six bucks each, which is what I paid for and what I was charged for each of the 3 orders of wings total $18.00. Not only was I screamed at like crazy while trying to explain I had paid for three orders but then once said it's alright I'm not ordering from here again they kept calling back harassing me. Several times they called back and each time I answered no thank you after they stated they would send the wings. This may be because frequently I ordered from here but as I said as of late the service has fallen off and so has the food and the freshness and taste. Now the chicken wings are very small and the rice has no taste. Also the shrimp that was sent a few days ago for a shrimp and broccoli order was bad and I had to throw it out instead of being able to eat it. read more

Usually don't have any issues, quality is what you should expect based on low prices. But this week's order and the experience was unbelievable - the shrimp was very fishy, as if it went bad and they undercooked it. Ok sure, fine - I didn't eat it and I'm trying to give restaurants benefit of doubt when they're busy especially during COVID. But I also waited over an hour to get my food because they didn't agree that I had placed my order online and had already paid online and were asking me to pay again. Then they call me HOURS later and scream at me on why I cancelled my order AFTER I PICKED IT UP (so why and how would have I cancelled my entire order?) with no explanation - just picked up and started being aggressive and you could hear the other woman yelling in the background. We all know that these Chinese food joints do not serve authentic and do enough justice to the traditional, savory, mouth watering Chinese food. Right? right??? I told my boyfriend that we are going to have Bad Chinese food for dinner. Because for some odd reason I'm a sucker for orange chicken/general Tsao (come on.... they all taste the same). So bf popped up Good Joy on menupages.com while I came rushing in to the room with the lame junk flyers other Bad Chinese food kitchens. Good Joy was slightly pricier than others in the are (by .50 to 1 dollar or so). And geesh, that makes the food a better difference. Delivery: Was pretty fast (either that or I was too immersed talking about my Sims 3 family to my boyfriend). Food: We ordered Dry String beans (small) and Orange chicken. The string bean dish was not authentic. The Chinese dry string beans dish that I know should be slightly fried string beans and then sauteed with aromatics, chili peppers and sometimes with diced Chinese preserved meats. instead the vegetable dish was just fresh sauteed string beans in the general asian dark sauce. But I must say it was very decent. Not too salty and crazy on MSG. It was fresh. Now, I must praise for the Orange chicken. They were not overly covered in flour doughs as a lot of kitchens like to do in order to scam you and save on the cost of meat. They were lightly coated and the sauce wasn't overly sweet. So $15 with tip included we filled our tummy and there are some left overs of rice which I will convert it into fried rice for lunch. Not bad. Chinese is usually too greasy for my tastes, however the one dish that I get here that always delights: Singapore Chow Mei Fun. Basically thin noodles with strips of pork and veggies in a dry curry. Beyond that, I can skip fast food Chinese and go for dumplings in China Town. read more

I just had Good Joy for the past two meals. For the neighborhood, its the best chinese delivery around. And by best chinese delivery around, I mean its the ONLY chinese delivery around. I got the chicken with garlic which wasn't bad and the general tso's which was mediocre. I also got the Hot and Sour Soup, which was above average. Great neighborhood chinese food. When I don't feel like walking to Kum Kau I come here and honest sometimes I just feel as if they have better food. My food selections have upgraded with age here. As a child I did just like all the other neighborhood and school children did; came here and ordered French fries drenched in ketchup. I do come here and order egg rolls all the time. They are huge and delicious. Can't go wrong with a good egg roll. If your in the neighborhood you should give this place a try. read more

I ordered for the first time tonight and I am very happy with my order. I got the sliced pork appetizer (eat while hot), the wonton egg drop soup, broccoli in garlic sauce and one egg roll. I've lived in the area for ages and tried this place after my Chinese contractor got take out delivered on his lunch break. They forgot the chopsticks and came all the way back to bring them while I was on site. I gave them a try that same night and enjoyed it. I ordered pork lo mein and shrimp fried rice. The lo mein was enough for 2 meals although I ordered the small. Saopolo on Myrtle, our go to Chinese place, has been closed for renovations for a while so this was a welcomed treat. Everything was pretty off flavor-wise. Two stars cus the delivery was SUPER fast and the guy was nice - plus the food was edible at least, though not very good. We got hot and sour soup, egg rolls, shrimp egg foo young, eggplant in garlic sauce, kung pao chicken, and general tso tofu. The hot and sour soup tasted mainly like vinegar and sugar. The pork egg rolls didn't seem to have any meat (just cabbage?) and were slightly undercooked (read: kinda doughy). My boyfriend said the shrimp egg foo young was the most edible, but the gravy wasn't really a gravy - more like a sweet, fish sauce on the bottom of the container. The eggplant's sauce was super thin and barely tasted like anything - except that it was slightly sweet. The kung pao was the kind with green peppers, which I don't like (I like the version of kung pao with scallions). My boyfriend is generally ok with this version of kung pao, but he said the sauce was just really sweet and thin. The general tso tofu was pretty flavorless, too. The sauce was kinda like sugar water and the tofu was dry. We ordered a bunch of things in order to try out different dishes but also because my boyfriend wanted to take the leftovers for lunch the next day. But it was all so flavorless (and somehow also sweet) that we ended up just tossing the leftovers away - which was basically a majority of the food since I ate one bite of each thing and then gave up on it altogether. So far, we haven't found a decent Chinese delivery place near us in Brooklyn. Since the boyfriend and I are from the DC metropolitan area, we're used to having tons of good Chinese restaurants (Americanized and authentic) nearby so we're kinda bummed! This is a typical Chinese fast food take out joint. If you know what I'm talking about you already know what's on the menu and about how good it is. But in that sense this place "gets it right". You want no hassle, touch heavy and salty, Chinese food with not pretense to be anything high end, this place will not let you down. So I recommend it as long as expectations are set. read more

By far and away the worst chinese delivery I've had in the 5 boroughs. I have no idea what the people approving of this place are thinking, or maybe they're ordering the few things that this place actually makes decently? Chicken with cashews had maybe 8 cashews in it which were quite hard to find as the oder was FILLED with diced cooked carrots and celery. I wasn't aware that chinese restaurants now make bogus cambell's soup knock offs. This couldn't have sucked worse. We had broccoli and string beans were nothing but bland, the broccoli perhaps even a tad undercooked? My friend had the sesame chicken combo plate which was so so. The spring roll was quite gross as well - the cabbage looked dried out inside and it was just.....man it was just bad. And to top it all off - they don't even have eggplant on the menu? If you live in the neighborhood and this is the only place that'll deliver to you and you're CRAVING chinese.....just wait it out and order indian or something. Reliable as a rock, and dead quick. We've been ordering from them for 10 years, and the only thing that's changed with them is their awning. The food is reliably consistent. I have been going to this Chinese restaurant for years and today I haven't felt more belittled and disrespected in my life!!!! I ordered small fries as I normally do. Once I got there to pick up my order, I realized I didn't have any dollar bills and only had change (the price was $1.95). So I went into my purse and started paying with quarters, dimes, and pennies. They immediately said NO! they can't accept my pennies. I told them I come here all the time and don't want to pay an ATM fee for 2 dollar fries! He still yelled NO!!! First off, I'm pregnant and had a serious craving for their fries. I went back to my car to see if I can find more quarters. When I came back to the restaurant, he picked up my pennies and screamed NO! WE DO NOT ACCEPT PENNIES. Upset that he spoke to me in that manner, I ignored him and I started to give him quarters and he said he has to make my order again because HE THREW AWAY MY ALREADY MADE FRIES!!!! I should have known there was going to be a problem from when I first called in and ordered my small fries in which he stated WHY NOT ORDER A LARGE FRIES, SMALL FRIES ARE FOR KIDS! This is definitely NOT how you treat and speak to a paying customer! Last time I checked pennies are money!!
