Earlier this week I tried to swing by not knowing they are closed on Sundays. Oh well! Made another attempt yesterday and was rewarded for my efforts. This was about the third time I've ever been to Good Karma. (Three times in about seven years. Guess that's not a good ratio. Ha ha!) Surprisingly, I thought their inventory was a hell of a lot better than the previous visit. The tobacconist on duty recommended the Buenaventura (6x60), which I have smoked before. Ended up grabbing four of them. (They were $6.75, which was as close to a budget smoke as I could find in here.) The smoke was absolutely fabulous and better than what I remember. The cigar burned even and had a great taste, which indicates a great humidor. The tobacconist on duty was also great at waiting on multiple customers at the same time without neglecting anyone. Macanudo vintage maduro 1997 Churchill Probably my second or third cigar I've had. Came to this shop as a first timer. Didn't feel intimidated at all. Got warm welcome immediately from the experts. Walk me through what to expect when purchasing a cigar. Side note is that you know you are at the right place when other customers help you also in selecting a cigar. I really liked this place, atypical from most cigar lounges ibecause it's a renovated two-story home with room-style seating. Conveniently close to downtown restaurants and the Cowttown Brewery. A little bit more laid-back feel then the more sophisticated Silver Leaf cigar lounge on nearby Sundance Square. I just might have smoked possibly my new favorite Connecticut- the 2012 Oscar Valladares. Such a smooth draw, buttery finish. It's BYOB. Great service. Worth a visit. read more

Negatives: Changes in staff, being stalked in the humidor as if you were a thief ( note there are cameras everywhere already), very limited seating unless you are a member apparantly ( I think someone quoted $1200 per year?), no courtesy water as most lounges offer this, bad parking, selling of THC products. UPDATE for 2023: SUMMARY: 2.5 out of 5. Changes in Staff, Customer Treatment and Access to Seating. I hate that this happened. PROS: Selection still good, but nothing you can't find at other local shops. CONS: New Staff that now has high pressure sales pitches and treats you like a potential shoplifter the moment you walk in. Even if you've been a regular for years. Membership now required for seating. ATMOSPHERE: It's definitely not as chill or friendly as before. I used to be able to come in and find a quiet spot to work at or hang with friendly smokers in one of the other seating areas, talk with the former manager (he was great at making comradery with regulars or strangers) or ask for a specific game to be put on. That's no longer an option due to: MEMBERSHIP: Now available. Day passes also available. Price unknown. SELECTION: Still the same as of Jan 2023 when I last visited. I no longer come in enough to gauge how often something unique or rare is available. I came in for some regular Drew Estates sticks and still had to be followed around in the humidor like a shoplifter and upsold with a sales pitch for another cigar that just came in (I've had before) and didn't care about. PETS: You can no longer bring dogs in. Someone probably screwed that up for everyone else and I believe there are no bad dogs, just bad owners. Can't fault the owner for this one but this was a unique differentiator of this lounge before and was appreciated while available. MISC: I don't know what happened with the old manager as owner will not discuss it (I assume employment terminated), but the attitude shift started around then and sucks if you were a regular since then. He made you feel like you were best friends. Ever see the movie "Fight Club?" The new staff makes me recall "Single-Serving Friends" if you remember that scene. read more

Awesome selection of cigars! They always have some "harder to find" Liga Privada and specialty fuente boxes. I grabbed a "father and his son" box from here and countless other sticks. Staff is friendly and helpful. Good selection of those "special occasion" sticks like padron or opus x as well! I'm not a member so I don't really know much about the members only area but there is about 6-10 chairs in the front smoking area where you can burn one. read more

He is very knowledgeable and was able to guide me to exactly what I was looking for. Also didn't try to sell me the highest price but focus on what my taste are and how I was feeling. My husband and I (and sometimes another friend) have been here several times. I love the location. It's wonderful-just at the edge of downtown. It's a house with a front yard, front porch, large humidor, two living areas, kitchen, bathroom, and back patio. We've gone in a few times only to get cigars. We always get great recommendations. It's really chill throughout. Even the dog is chill. We sat with a group one time and watched a football game. Last night my husband and I shared a bottle of wine on the front porch swing. I just got off the phone with TODD and he's so rude I don't even know how this man is still in business. A few months ago my brother and I bought a "holiday gift pack" each, that he said was the last two he had and wasn't going to any more. Just to find out that he says that to everybody as a sales pitch. And when I asked him for a better deal on them cause they were over priced by $50 bucks. First rule, don't ask the red head for Cubans because the lady will get snippy with you, second rule don't keep asking... Now for the cigars, this place is loaded with Cigars of all kinds. We selected the two of the Foundry cigars (Edison vs Tesla ) and a 1964. The cigars came with a ring band on both of the cigars which were really cool, Keep as Souvenirs. The Foundry cigars tobacco are one of a kind, and not in any other cigar. Now for the thirds cigar we got was the Gurkha Ron Abuelo 7, the lady said it was soaked in rum for several years. All three cigars were worth the stop. The Red head was very knowledgeable and informative on the cigars. Would Definitely stop here again. read more

Staff took my likes and I found a new favorite cigar...Yellow Rose of Texas. When I first got into the hobby of smoking he explained a lot to me and was never hesitant to answer one of my questions which I look back now and know where dumb. Good karma is by far the best cigar, pipe, and smoking accessories shop in town. They have a vast selection of cigars that jones Cowan and the smoke shop can't compare too. I have been in good karma only a hand full of times every experience has been awful. I have been followed every time as if I was going to steal something. Also the owner was accusing my friend who had bought two memberships. Which were later terminated bc of false accusations of stealing. I do not recommend good karma to any one.
