It's just what you expect of pro tattoo shops run by grown up punk/progressive rockers. Pinup flashes cover the walls and there's some japonisme here and there. I have to say the bearded dude at the desk weren't the most informative when I asked them what kind of ink they were using (to which they giggled "uh... good ink"), despite having a number of piercings before I suppose they could have been more reassuring to antsy tattoo virgins like my partner ha! Anyway, it was all very chill and dandy. I have no complaints about the cleanliness or skill of the owner/artist, who had been doing tattoos for 10 years. Paul disinfected all surfaces between tats and gave good recommendations of the type of figure to get instead of the floating cartoon head I was thinking about. Then again, I'm a pretty easy person and didn't require too many mods to the stencil he drew, but he was very open to redrawing whatever needed to change. I like his no-bs attitude about healing which was to keep things dry and clean. There was no upsell of healing gels or whatever. We had a good conversation during the tat and he was good about not touching other surfaces while he had gloves on. I just wish they weren't so offhanded about the details at the beginning.

I have been following Stella on IG for 1.5 years for her fine line tattoo technique. I had a 5 inch piece done on my shoulder up to my neck for $430+tip (deposit included) I've scouted other parlours that were estimating $700+. No just no. Convenience: 5/5 A commute with a streetcar is no problem on Queen. If you're driving, good luck. Service/cleanliness: 5/5 Stella was my artist and she made me feel comfortable being it was my first ever tattoo. She had showed me her renditions of my inspiration and listened to my feedback. The parlour itself is beautifully renovated and decorated with witty figurines. Washrooms could be better but meh. Skill: 4.5/5 Stella is hands down a professional. We communicated through IG and booked an appointment within hours. Didn't give it a full 5 because apart of my tattoo wasn't up to my satisfaction. The staff made booking an appointment easy and I was lucky enough that my fav tat artist was in to go over the design, placement and cost. When I came back for my appointment, Glennie was her usual self: kind, friendly and full of energy. It was on my side and I was in love with the process from start to finish. My next tat which was done today was a lot smaller than my other one but again, the process was seamless and pain free. I walked in the day before New Year's Eve and the friendly girl at the counter was able to get me an appointment for today. When I went in for my appointment, it was a different girl at the counter but she was equally friendly and helpful. Glennie explained all details to me, even though I've been tatted by her many times before--gotta love an artist who still takes the time to make you feel comfortable. I was in and out in 30min. The whole process is why I would keep going back to Glennie and Pearl Harbor.

A week before my apointment, India fractured her hand (sucks!) and my appaointment had to be moved after October. Since school would be in session my only coordinatng day turned out to be in December... I was pretty bumed out but at the same time I had more time to save up. The big day arrives and India is once again nice and cheery, making it easier to deal with the horrific pain to come. Ask anyone and they will agree that foot tattoos are generally brutal and since this was a cover up I knew staying still was going to be important. My hour long session was pretty painful but in the end super worth it. You can't see my old tattoo and India's design was incredible. I can't wait until my next ink adventure... and when that time comes India will be my guide :-)

first things first, i want to clarify that i'm quite nervous around needles. anytime i have a blood…read moretest or get a vaccine, i always make it a point to tell the nurse that i am very nervous and a bit scared (despite nothing bad ever happening, like, ever)... so naturally i was very nervous about getting my ears pierced. i walked into the store one day after yelping for a tattoo + piercing spot because i have been thinking about getting my ears (re)pierced for years now (i got them pierced maybe 15 years ago at Claire's and didn't wear earrings back then for many reasons so the holes closed up). i asked a couple questions to Kyle who was at the front of the house and i really appreciated how straightforwardly they answered my questions. Kyle spoke matter-of-factly without making me feel silly for asking simple questions as a grown adult. i also really appreciate speaking to someone instead of just panicking while reading the FAQ page over and over!! fast forward to a month later, i made an appointment to get my lobes pierced! taylor was my piercer and they were absolutely wonderful to be in the care of. i told them exactly how nervous i was and they didn't sugarcoat that i'd definitely feel it -- it would hurt like a pinch hurts and i'd feel some heat, this is natural -- and they jokingly reassured me that if i hated the first piercing, i could stop at one (lol). it's been 8 weeks with my studs in and they've healed amazingly. taylor not only did an amazing job with the piercing, but they gave me really concise care tips and a business card with their info in case i needed to reach out about my piercings. i don't think i can sing high enough praises of the folks at new tribe! TL;DR: - spoke with kyle at the front of house and was pierced by taylor. both were absolute gems of human beings - overall very pleasant and calm experience as a nervous person - very knowledgeable and non-judgmental - thorough website w/ FAQs - would definitely come back if i ever wanted more piercings!! - studs are flat back - variety of studs to pick from for the piercing (some with price upgrades)
