We've always had great experiences with birth and postpartum at Good Sam through the midwives. The brownies are also AMAZING and I highly recommend getting one for every meal if you are delivering here (and the chocolate cake). I get excited for the hospital food when here haha. read more

I wouldn't send my dog there. The receptionist at the ER was playing games on her phone the first time I went to the desk. On May 6th at 10:40 if the hospital management has any interest in knowing what's going on. She told me she would send someone out to assess my wife after I explained the pain she was in from her surgery she had that morning....... At GOOD SAM. So after 20 min. Nobody came. I went to the window and asked her why she was on facebook??? She slammed the glass window on me. We left and went to Bathesda North. Wow what a difference. If I could give that hospital a -5 I would. I'd never step foot back in there! There is probably good drs there but if that's how they manage things and let there employees act. They need to do a lot of cleanup. read more

From my wife's recent experience of gastric bypass surgery, it was top care! I think part of the reason had to do with her tolerance of pain is very high but also her very early surgery time which meant more time to recover there. This surgery is not outpatient so that helped. She was on floor 8 so I had to take elevators and they were slow. Gift shop was cute and had fresh flowers in a cooler to buy. Highly recommend taking advantage of their free valet parking. There was the sweetest guy named John than helped us! read more

Had a myomectomy here in mid December which I was really nervous about. However, my doctor, Nima Patel, was great. Surgery went well as she was able to find more fibroids than I thought I had and was able to remove some endometriosis as well. I ended up having to stay 2 nights in the hospital which wasn't bad. The beds are not the most comfortable, but I imagine no hospital bed is. The nurses were really nice and attentive. The food however was not the best, I guess it was typical hospital food. Not great food, but at least you will live. Overall a really good experience and I would recommend Dr. Patel got anyone needing gyno surgery. read more

My experience with this facility was an absolute disaster from start to finish. I will never go back to this facility again. I had a mammogram (my first one ever) through Mercy Health, and it came back "abnormal," so I had to have some follow-up imaging done. The Breast Center at Good Sam was the option given to me that was closest, so I made the appointment. First of all, they told me that they don't do afternoon appointments (afternoon works best for my work schedule), which I found very odd. Fortunately, I was able to get a 7:40am appointment. I was given the option to pre-pay the $264 at the time I made the appointment, so I did. I thought that was a little steep since preventative screenings are supposed to be fully covered, but I was a bit scared by the "abnormal" results of my initial mammogram. I arrived at 7:25am (instructions said to arrive 15 minutes early). There were plenty of staff there, but they were more interested in lounging about and talking and laughing then helping me. They tried to charge me the $264 AGAIN, which I thought was very odd. I was the first and only patient there at the time. After getting changed into the gown, I had to go out to the main front desk TWICE--in an open-front gown--to ask what was going on because I was waiting for so long. The whole time I was waiting, I could hear people behind the door talking and laughing constantly. Finally, they took me back to do my mammogram. Then, back to waiting. Then, at 8:30, they told me that the radiologist wasn't there yet and thus could not review the images. Ok, so how long am I supposed to wait? Why is the radiologist not there almost an hour after my appointment time? Eventually, they came back and said that the results were still abnormal, so they would have to do an ultrasound. I was already going to be later to work than I had told my boss, but they said it had to be done right then and there. So they did the ultrasound. Then, a couple of weeks later, I get a bill in the mail for $663! That's in addition to the $264 that I had already paid (and I have since gotten another bill for ANOTHER $161). Apparently, that ultrasound cost $800+ and was not covered at all by my insurance. If they had told me that I was incurring additional charges, I would have told them to wait and would have asked to schedule the ultrasound for a later date so that I could price things first. Also, on what planet does an ultrasound cost $800+? To make things even worse, my bill simply says "other imaging services." It doesn't even specify what was done! I emailed the email address on my bill for questioning or appealing a bill, but after 12 days, I haven't heard anything. After 7 days, I called the "general questions" number on my bill to ask, and they just said they'd sent me a more detailed bill, which I still haven't received. This whole thing just feels like a scam, and the actual experience was awful. I don't understand how this place is still open. read more

This is our second un pleasant experience with the endoscopy department in this hospital. Ten years ago, we went in for my husband's preventive colonoscopy and waited around 6 hours to have the procedure done, which was scheduled. Only when my husband (hungry, dizzy and tired) said I had enough, I am going home, they sped up things and got it done. This time, he was told that due to his colon not being completely clear (he followed the prep instructions to the T) he had to wait 24 more hours and continue the prep, with no food intake. No other option was offered, and a complete dismissive attitude from the staff (nurses and Dr) saying things like "it's up to you" and then pointing admonishing fingers talking about colon cancer. I honestly feel that they do not care about the patients. The lack of empathy in a very uncomfortable situation is appalling. I am sure there are other ways to clear the colon without putting the patient in such a vulnerable position. We will NEVER go back to Good (TERRIBLE) Sams for anything. If I could give 0 star I would. read more

I went to the emergency room at Good Sam in 2019. Just to start, I was admitted to another Good Sam ER where I told them exactly what my issue was, they admitted me, then told me that they didn't have the proper equipment to treat me. So they sent me here. The ER doctor at this Good Sam had absolutely no beside manner; she was rude and rough during an already very traumatic experience. I will say, the nurses were all extremely helpful, courteous, and kind. My big complaint is really that I settled my bill with them after my ER visit and they have now sent two bills to collections without trying to reach out to me to notify me beforehand in any way. I don't really understand how I can owe more in the first place when I settled the entire bill with them. The day I spent in the ER is one I would rather forget and I have to continuously receive these collections notices for very small amounts in the mail without rhyme or reason. Me and my friend that were visiting my friend in the ER kept looking at each other with shock that the doctor was behaving the way he was. The staff was amazing, and the experience was great from the registration through discharge. Everyone was patient, friendly, and even helped m navigate back to my wife when a i got lost . I recently had to go to #goodsamaritanhospital for a specialized blood test. Lucky for me it is literally just down the street from my doctor's #trihealth office building in #clifton. There is a walkway from the 6th floor to the hospital. I was advised that it would be easier to drive down the street and park & enter the hospital's main entrance. I choose to walk over. In retrospect I should have driven. The hospital has updated their service locations and moved the lab to the ground floor close to the main entrance. In my search for the lab though I encountered several friendly employees who directed & even walked with me part of the way. I had to check in at the registration desk first. Upon confirmation of the doctor's referral for me the lab was just around the corner. Inside the door the lights were a bit dimmed. It was in a small waiting area that had another check-in counter. I was the only patient so the process went very quickly. My blood was draw involved no more than what I consider a an acceptable amount of pain (and I really hate being poked with needles). Once done I again got directions from other friendly employees back to my parking garage. Next came the wait for the results. It took longer than I experience at my doctor (more than 48 hours) but the news was good. Overall it was a positive experience but park at the hospital's location on Dixmyth Avenue. They also have a policy in place at the hospital that refuses you to see the patient in their own room. The dayshift staff people are excellent and take care of your family members to the best of their ability. But the nighttime staff neglects which causes harm to your family member. Speaking from a visitor's standpoint, this is a friendly and clean hospital. My husband had outpatient surgery and we ended up at the wrong building, about 20 minutes away. We called to let them know the mix up and they still were able to get us in right away. You can park valet if you'd like but there's also a large garage and 30 minute parking up front. My husband quickly checked in on the first floor and headed to the second floor where the surgery is performed. After a quick stop at the main desk, a nurse was ready to take him back ASAP. The nurses quickly got him prepped for surgery and although we were 30 minutes late, they still had him ready with 5 minutes to spare before his surgery time. Very efficient! The lobby is accommodating for visitors with clean chairs and a few TVs. There's even a tv that has the patients ID number that says whether they're in pre op, in op or post op. I really liked that I could see what stage of surgery he was in! I didn't originally have his ID number but that nice ladies at the desk happily gave it to me. Outside of the lobby is a nice selection of vending machines. Downstairs on level one is a gift shop with awesome prices and a large selection. My husband loved his nurses and everyone was very nice to me and my daughter as well. The doctor personally spoke with me about hub's post op care. The nurses made sure I was equipped with everything to get hubs home and taken care of. Wonderful experience start to finish. read more

They showed genuine concern for my comfort and well-being. Communication was excellent. Very friendly people, too. One visit was to the ER, and it was a good experience, too. Absolutely terrific doctors and staff! I started at the Diximyth location from suffering a sciatic nerve issue. Went for physical therapy and even did a shot in my back, but none of it worked. Finally had an x-ray and it showed a lot more is going on. So I went to the Kenwood location and realized I needed a hip replacement. The doctors are very thorough and I am being treated for osteoporosis first before the replacement. They rushed my appointments to another doctor in the Western Hills location. Getting me on a strong medication to help make new bone as soon as possible. All locations have been wonderful! Short wait time in offices, awesome staff & perfect doctors! Every time I've been there everyone is very kind to me and very professional. The building has been updated everywhere I have been and is super clean. I've been to this hospital multiple times and the last time was probably it for me. The doctors that I've had have been horrible. Not actually checking me and prescribing meds that I made me feel worse. I was told not to eat certain things because I have GI issues. Saw another GI doctor there and he told me I had no food restrictions; just eat small amounts 6x's a day, this last doctor just gave me a list of what not to eat and he's the one who said I have no restrictions. Adding a new medication. I've been in and out of the emergency room over this past year due to my GI issues. They've done EKG's, CT scans, endoscopies and colonoscopies and a gastric emptying. Yet I continuously get ill. I was recently hospitalized Nov. 3rd through Nov.6th. I was so disrespected in there. I went to Faculty Medical Center for an appt. and the nurse took my vitals and when the doctor came, I had just vomited and instead of him checking me he sent me directly to the emergency room. Once there I waited in a room about 5 hours while they ran multiple tests before they told me I was going to be admitted and waited about 3 more hours before I was taken to my room. While in emergency the nurse I had was so rude. My Mom and I ask how long before I'd go up to a room and she just continued to ignore us and turned around and walked out never to come back. I asked another nurse what was wrong, the nurse told me she had suffered head trauma and sometimes she's off. If that's the case, then why does she work there? Once in my room the nurses on the floor I was on weren't paying attention to my diet which was to be clear liquids and they were giving me things like red Italian Ice. I had to ask them to stop bringing my things I wasn't supposed to have. The doctors were saying I was there for a reason I never stated. They were telling each other I said things that I never said to them, I told them that I never said those things as well. I was there from Nov.3rd until Nov.6th, the entire time I'm asking to see a GI doctor and being told no. I would have to see the GI doctor on my own even though all my doctors are through this hospital. I was released from Good Samaritan Hospital on Nov.3rd still nonstop vomiting, and I didn't have a bowel movement until days after being discharged from the hospital. The hospital sent my insurance documentation stating they wanted payment from Nov.4th until Nov.11th. I wasn't even there any longer. Right now, I'm waiting for my primary care doctor to fill out FMLA documents I left for him on Nov.21st. It's become a struggle at work when I don't know when a flare up will happen, this is an ongoing issue. I was told by the nurse they take 7-10 business days to get filled out. They said the GI doctor could fill out my form but his nurse stated he wouldn't fill it out because I've only seen him once. Today is Dec.14th and I still don't have the documents filled out by my primary doctor. I'm told now that the doctor is now on vacation. They've become the worst hospital ever. Your health is not their priority. I 've had a nurse tell me they make appts. hoping you just come because I had some in my MYChart that I never scheduled and didn't even know what they were for but showed up for them. The nurse told me to cancel the ones I didn't schedule because "they do that sometimes". read more

I was here for a full thyroid removal surgery all of my doctors and nurses pre op and surgery nurses and doctors were great. After I was admitted was horrible some were rude and short! When I called for a nurse they were snappy because they couldn't hear me. My voice was low due to surgery. My evening nurse Cynthia was very nice and helpful. I have been to several hospitals but this is one I would NOT recommend for your loved ones. I could have taken better care of myself at home with the help of my family. Ordered food they were so rude. Most just seemed so agitated if you even asked a question. Just not a good feeling when you are in pain and clearly need help. read more

I have only been to Good Samaritan in relation to my pregnancy and delivery, so that's all I can speak to, but I definitely felt like I received top-notch care here. In particular, the nursing staff was excellent at every step of the way. When I came in late at night at the beginning of labor. When I came in again in the middle of night near the end of labor (lol...). Throughout delivery. And especially during my postpartum recovery. I will never forget the key nurses (Courtney, Lakeisha, Rachele, Susan) who helped me through one of the most intense experiences of my life. The nursing staff and on-call pediatrician (who was technically from Cincinnati Children's Hospital, I think?) also took great care of my baby girl, and gave me and my husband lots of tips and insights for when we went back home with her. TBH, I chose Good Sam out of convenience. (We live very close by.) Only later did I learn that Good Sam is one of the top hospitals in the state (and even the nation, relatively speaking) for delivering babies. But after my experience there, I believe it. The only thing I would even consider docking a star for is that the facilities are pretty confusing to navigate... but honestly a LOT of hospitals are that way, so oh well. We took the maternity tour several weeks before our due date, and that helped a lot. Other notes: - From what I can remember (haha...) my labor and delivery room was big, bright, clean, and comfortable. - The recovery room was more modest and cramped, but still served its purpose well for the 48 hours we were there. (Note: We had a private room, not shared, which I was really glad for.) - The free valet parking was clutch for my husband, who had been out of town on business and had to speed back and just barely made it to the delivery room before our daughter was born! - TriHealth offers a lot of maternity classes, both at Good Sam and Bethesda North. SIGN UP EARLY. We did Tot Savers (CPR for children and infants) and even though it was a bit repetitive, we feel really good about having that skill for our daughter. - The food was hit or miss. Breakfast tended to be the most palatable. - Even though it's sort of a racket, I appreciated the Mom365 photography service that comes through. (Note: They are not affiliated with Good Sam.) - I also appreciated the lactation consultants, and never felt like they or the nurses were pressuring me one way or the other about how to feed my daughter. read more

Do not go here! Emergency room service was horrible. in fact, my friend was greeted by two photographers who shooed her away from the checkin desk bc her open head wound was ruining the shot. That set the tone for a poor visit. Staff was more concerned with demographic info like religion and marital status than actually taking her insurance information. Spent very little time with a doctor. The nurse ps, admin assistants, and nurses all contradicted each other with regards to treatment and diagnosis. Never got bandage for cut on finger, had to repeatedly request that head would be cleaned, never received dressing for head wound, nor ice for broken nose, and on. Staff refused to make copies of forms that she signed, refused to call in prescriptions to pharmacy. Never saw films from MRI, never received films from MRI. Generally the staff refused to be helpful. read more

This review is for the Special Care OB, Maternal Fetal Medicine, Labor and Delivery and NICU departments of Good Sam Hospital. The reason for my five-star review is that I'm sitting in the living room with my healthy, happy twin baby boys right now. Although I had a complicated pregnancy, the care I received at Good Sam allowed me to deliver my babies six weeks early instead of eight. During my 10 day stay, I got to know the nurses in Special Care OB for the caring, helpful individuals they are. The ultrasound technicians in Maternal Fetal Medicine did an exemplary job monitoring my babies. When it came time to deliver, the L&D nurse was very compassionate about my need for a C-Section I would rather not have. Once the babies were born, they spent time in the NICU (neonatal intensive care unit). Although they were small, we never had any fears for their health. The care they received was beyond excellent, with a combination team of nurses, neonatologist, therapists, nurse practitioner and resident. And not to leave anyone out, I enjoyed great conversations and interactions with the nutrition team and custodians. Everyone seemed to respect me as a patient. I recommend Good Sam for pregnancy care, labor and delivery and preterm infant care. It's not the fanciest hospital or (Lord knows) the easiest hospital to navigate, but their medicine is solid, professional and compassionate. And I found the food to be better than I expected-- but don't get your hopes up too much. read more

This review is specific to their Labor & Delivery unit. I gave birth to my first child at Good Sam. Don't worry- I won't go into detail. I just want to say I'm very pleased with their nursing staff and amenities in L&D. Everyone was really friendly and kind, even at 3:30am when we arrived. Our room was ginormous, and very nice. I was having an unmedicated birth, and while you could tell that was NOT the norm at Good Sam, they didn't look at me like I was crazy or a weirdo hippie which I appreciate. In fact, they were very encouraging. Postpartum room wasn't quite as nice, but it was fine. The nursing staff was really kind, except for one nurse I wasn't fond of. The reason I'm not giving them 5 stars is because the lactation consultants were way too busy and never stopped in to see me. I was really having a tough time nursing and this just made it worse. When one stopped in the next day (after I had to ask about it numerous times) she rushed through her visit with me. I was really disappointed about this. I ws taken by ambulance to this hopsital after experiencing high blood pressure and heart palpitations and suggested by the ambulance staff. At the time I was thinking that I was having a heartached as my mother died of heart attack at age 64 and I am 62 years old. Staff unable to get an IV in and I was very nervous and frustrated. I was in the hospital for less than 1 hour and had nothing performed other than EKG and vitals. Yes I occupied a bed and took up staff services and time which i totally get. Later found out that I was dehydrated and having a panic attack. I got a bill from the hospital for over $4,000 and insurance paid them over $2,000 and now I am be billed for out of pocket expenses for $1600. I had a similar experience over a year ago at another hospital (St. Vincents) and had many services performed including 2 EKG's blood work, chest xrays and IV fluids which was half the cost of what I am being charged at SCL health. Whats the difference in care-none. Buyer beware and shop around as this hospital overcharges clients way over what the usual and customary rates of hospital care. read more

This review is exclusive to the Occupational Health Department. Words cannot express the amount of frustration I experience every time I go to Good Sam. I have to go yearly for work and it is NEVER less than a 2 hour time commitment. They move sooooo sloooooow. My appointment was at 2:00 in the afternoon, but I called earlier in the morning and asked if I could come a little early. The woman on the phone told me that wouldn't be a problem, and they would take me whenever I got there. So I arrived at 1:30, signed in, and all in all was still there over 2 hours. 1 hour of that time was spent in various waiting rooms. After all this, they still get two stars instead of one because the people that work there are just so darn friendly. Most of the nurses and nurse practitioners really do make you feel comfortable (when they finally get around to seeing you). The people in reception are a bit unprofessional, but friendly, nonetheless. read more

Went to the ER after being told to do so by urgent care and my PCP for lower right stomach pain. Laid there for about 6 hours. Within that 6 hours several repetitive tests happened (5 pregnancy tests) with the exact same results. Several different diagnoses starting with appendicitis and ending with it's PMS (and explaining periods/PMS to me like I was a toddler) come back if you're actually dying. Very disorganized and checked MyChart to learn my results entire half to full hours before anyone came back to explain. Would not recommend. read more

This is a clean and easy to get to hospital. There is a parking garage that is attached and it was never too hard to find a spot on a Saturday and Sunday. I wouldn't advise using the "automatic" turning doors as they are extremely slow. I don't go to hospitals often so I don't know what standard protocols are but we were able to walk in and out of this place without any questions. This can be a little unnerving and I would suggest some type of check in process for visitors. Other than that the hospital seemed to be just that, a hospital. It was as clean as it could be and the staff that we interacted with were pleasing. read more

Scam artists. Got sent for a workers comp evaluation when assaulted by a patient at work. One year later, still receiving ticky tack bills ($14, etc) from a collection agency, despite ALREADY having paid what they said I owed, which was incorrectly billed to me in first place. Zero sympathy, understanding, or even explanation as to why still receiving bills despite at least five phone calls. Beware of setting foot here or they will nickel and dime you perpetually long after your dealings are done. read more
