We both LOVE One Martial Arts. The entire welcome experience could not be more perfect. You book a free trial class easily online and show up to find your kids name on a big sign with a free t-shirt waiting. They are super supportive in the class and let the first-timers do a board breaking at the end so they get absolutely hooked from the jump. The joy in their faces after that board breaks and they feel so powerful is priceless! Arrive for your first real class their uniform is at the ready on the front desk. Seriously, so organized! We love the instructors. They break the kids into smaller groups so she's gotten to work with Shīfu Bender and Shīfu Fidler and Shīfu Lucas Dela Cruz who are all wonderful. They have an app that makes everything super easy. Including instructional videos kids can use to practice. When you arrive you just check your kiddo in on the ipad (they are located right next to the after class lollipops). The class itself is the perfect blend of skill-training and fun. They learn respect, discipline and hard work, then they get to play a fun game at the end like freeze tag to get all their energy out. They also earn sticker stripes leading up to the different color belts. My kiddo is highly motivated by this and always looks forward to the "earn" days. The support staff is super responsive and helpful with inquiries and questions. There are plenty of benches to sit and watch but it's in a great neighborhood so always fun to run out and grab a snack or bubbletea.

Instructors share the same qualities -- skilled, attentive, and genuinely invested in their students. Rather than jumping around topic to topic, they'll anchor several classes, sometimes weeks, around a single concept and its variations. Jiu Jitsu is very challenging on so many levels, the instruction at RG Sunset is top notch and really makes sense of tough concepts. Class structure is solid: warmups flow into drilling and instruction, situationals, then open rolls to close it out. There's enough live time to test what you've worked on without it being a survival-of-the-fittest environment. The morning crowd is motivated but the egos are low -- people are there to train and get better and to leave feeling good. Great culture, clean, spacious training area, friendly people- If you train in the morning and want a gym that takes the craft seriously while having fun in a welcoming community, Ralph Gracie Sunset is it.

Though he was initially timid, the coaches made the transition so exciting that he was hooked immediately. My daughter (now 6) joined a few months after my son, and Jiu-Jitsu has truly helped her come out of her shell and find her confidence among her peers. The coaches are wonderful with children, striking the perfect balance between being patient and supportive while maintaining a no-nonsense focus on safety and technique. Coach Silva, in particular, does a great job teaching them that success comes through hard work and perseverance. It's more than just martial arts--it's about building skills, confidence, and being part of a community. If your kids are looking to learn Jiu-Jitsu, this is definitely the place to be.

Classes are well run and open to all levels, from beginners to experienced fighters. The atmosphere is welcoming, focused, and respectful. I've trained with Kru Sam for over 20 years. He has proven to be one of the best Muay Thai trainers in the world. Over the last 25 years, he has developed multiple world champions and helped launch the careers of some of San Francisco's top Muay Thai and MMA fighters. His teaching is clear, technical, and patient. He gives the same attention to new students as he does to seasoned fighters. He also hosts fight events, giving his students real opportunities to compete. This gym has a strong and supportive community. Everyone trains hard and looks out for one another. Kru Sam is actually from Thailand and knows the traditions of the art and still goes back himself or sends students there regularly to train, which may be part of why he's trained so many champions. The community of students here has been very welcome among both newcomers, veterans, and returners. I gotta start with my teacher, Sifu Philip Wong. It's easy enough to see his credentials, as there are many and well-published. What I did want to capture is how he interacts with the class I'm in. We have a spectrum of students across different ages and martial arts experience levels and he makes sure to get the best out all of us. He finds ways to get us to push ourselves a little more each day and is very present to ensure our forms are correct. And he genuinely cares about his students as people, able to connect with anyone from a variety of backgrounds. The facilities and gear are high-quality and up-to-date. There's plenty of sparring gear for different purposes; whether it's hand-held for punches or kicks, or padded dummies, it's great to have something for every need. And my thanks the top-of-the-line floor mats the school uses can't be expressed enough. As I'm pushing 50, making sure that the mats can provide me traction when we warm up, stability when we strike, and cushion when we practice falls is very important to me. I can feel safe, not worry about injury, and focus on the exercises. And bonus points for the workout playlist that makes me feel like a kid again.

The staff is very friendly and the instructors are top notch. I personally do mostly the boxing classes and Paris is a wonderful instructor. Once you get past the begging stages and are able to do some light sparring that is when he really shines as a coach. He is able to give genuine and very constructive feedback. Not that he doesn't put on great beginner classes or anything. I still attend those as well. Jacob is also a fantastic teacher, a lot more footwork in his classes. Combine the two and you're going to be very well rounded. (They also have several Muay Thai and BJJ classes) Overall the gym has all the staples, a few different types of heavy bags (about a dozen total), a double edge bag, and speed bag. Basic free weights and bench press. They even have the old school tire and sledgehammer. They have a ring of course for sparring as well. That coupled with some ex professional instructors and I'm not sure what else you're looking for. As for the community I've never had nor seen any negative altercations and from my experiences basically everyone is friendly and welcoming. I have no intentions of attending any other gyms and see myself here for quite sometime.

It's common for people to look around confused, unsure of how to perform the long combo shown. In maybe half the classes, though, additional instructors might occasionally come around to give tips. Compared to other gyms, the culture is notably less welcoming. I think the worst part though, is that some of the staff is oddly rude and sometimes aggressive. The only time I received a lasting injury in around 2 years of combat sports sparring was when a staff member here suddenly threw dangerous unpadded knees to my rib cage during a light spar. There are some parts of the gym that are nice. The head instructors, for example, are very kind and knowledgeable, and the place is usually pretty clean.
