I took COTA Bus #5 from downtown Columbus (Ohio Statehouse) and explored the area just north of the park. The brick houses and cobblestone alleyways provide a glimpse of life in the 1880s and early 1900s when this area became a central hub for the German-American community. I don't think there are too many kid-friendly activities or museums nearby - but it makes a pleasant excursion if you're stuck at the Convention Center for a conference in downtown Columbus. Street parking looked a bit challenging. If Bus #5 is running slow on your return trip from the German Village back to the downtown area (it can be up to a 30 minute wait if you just missed the last bus), consider taking an Uber/Lyft taxi instead.

A few things to note. 1) They have a couple EV charging stations. 2) Hold on to your ticket because if you lose it, you'll be paying a hefty $65 dollars to get your car out. 3) You can pay either at the gate or before you get back in your car at a kiosk. Long story short, don't avoid this area of town because everyone says parking is a nightmare. You just need to know where to look... and Yelp can help with that!

We have been taken advantage of many times in the past, so we were already tense about the entire thing. We found RJ Howard Electric and gave them a call. They open very early in the morning (7:30am) which is nice for stressed out folks like us! We spoke with Rick and explained the situation. He was able to schedule an appointment for 4:00pm later that day. Rick showed up right on time, 4 o'clock on the DOT, and called my hubby for more information on what what happening in mom's home. He went downstairs and checked her circuit breaker and after less than five minutes of investigating he already knew the issue. It was the line outside on the pole, which is an AEP problem. Not only did he call AEP for my mother and arrange for them to fix the outage, but he provided us with the ticket number so we could track the progress. On top of all the good news, he also only charged us a minimal fee for his services. We were so relieved and appreciative and cannot say enough good things about this company. We have some electrical issues at our house that we have been putting off over fear of getting taken advantage of, but it's comforting to know we have a reliable, honest electrician to call now! The place was charging $5 for parking for the evening. That's a pretty good deal. I then realized that I was in the university district, so it made perfect sense. I gave the male parking attendant $20 and hope that he could break it. He had $15 in bills back. Nice! I parked. I had enough time to back into the spot. It's my tip for you. When you are going to an event, back into a parking spot. It's easier when it comes time to leave. I visited my car four times during the evening. The first time was to park. My second time was fetching my concert ticket. My third time was putting my purse in my car, as it was larger than what was permitted at the venue. The last time was after the show. Needless to say, I know the start of the second floor of this garage well. My car was safe during nearly five hours that it was parked here. It was busy pulling out of the lot, but everyone was patient and friendly. I let a minivan from Indiana back out of a spot and drive off. One of the woman was supervising the backing-out process, and then waved to thank me before climbing into the vehicle. It's the perfect location to park and walk around,as there are tons of shops, bars, and more. Ohio State University is next to this lot. It's a cool part of the city. (391)

The garage is good-sized, with nearly 800 spaces and has nicely sized driving lanes to access the floors. You'll want to be sure to take the ticket you get upon entry with you to use the pay machines before you head back to your car. There is one located on the High Street side closest to the union. The garage appeared clean and well kept.

If you enter for event parking, they will take the payment in advance; if you enter by taking a ticket, be sure to take it with you if you are going to use the pay machine on the way back to your vehicle (though this garage does also have pay-in-lane).
