You know why I gave this five stars? Because I couldn't give it six. You can smell the delicious barbecue from 100 yards away. That's the size of a football field and I would run through the Tampa Bay lineman in order to get to this restaurant. Parking? Ample. Walking through the door it's like walking through your old aunt's house where your mom told you not to touch anything and she had plastic covering on the couches. You knew you were going to get slapped at some point, but the food was gonna be fire. And the sliced smoked turkey sandwich I had on garlic bread did exactly that. It slapped me right where I like to be slapped. It was like the first time I heard "In Da Club" by 50 Cent. I knew I'd be humming the sweet tune of this samwich for decades. Was the dining area open? Absolutely not. Did the beautiful young lady who waited on us at the cash register let us sit down and eat anyway because she knew we were weary travelers and we were tired? Abbso-effing-lutely. "You should try the wings" this angel told me. "You should say that softer and slower into my ear so the hairs on my arm stand up" I replied. And boy oh boy did these people honor that flightless bird by turning its wings into a culinary masterpiece. Coleslaw. Slapped. French fries. Slapped. Sliced beef sammich. Slapped doesn't fully encapsulate the taste. It was like that first slow dance with a girl in 8th grade where the chaperone told you to leave room for the Holy Spirit. As a Floridian I've tried many barbecue places from Sonny's which is a good Staples to all the Mom and pop places around Central Florida which is where I live. Someone told me about Goodman's BBQ and let me tell you what. I have never had better barbecue in my life, the beef and I'm a beef person and it's hard to do beef on barbecue right? It was had a medium rare. It was succulent. It was juicy. It was the best stuff you ever put in your mouth. The pork was the same way succulent and juicy. The chicken was flavorful and everything was just delicious. We can't brag enough. We went through and unfortunately they do not have a dining situation. You do have to drive through. We went to this little Park. The girl suggested we sat and ate and we went back and bought 2 lb of the pork and the beef to bring home with us. That's how delicious it was if you're driving through Perry, Florida. If you're going anywhere near that area, make the drive-thru for Perry's BBQ please. It's privately owned and operated. It's an old building. There's no sign out because of the hurricane, but you will never have a better finger licking lip smacking barbecue in your life. Locally Family owned! the staff has always been super nice and amazing ! And cater to your needs very promptly . But the food also is very unique when it comes to BBQ and you can tell that the time is put in for the food to taste it's absolute best. I've ate there my whole life. I was brought up on it great memories with family and friends and countless one on one meals with my father coming up in my high school years. I really miss it being open to the public. Yes, Yes, Yes, one-thousand-times YES! Before living in the NW I lived in two BBQ states (Florida and Oklahoma). Yeah, you can get good BBQ up here but you really have to hunt for it and it's often overly gourmet/fu-fu and a bit pricey. While I was in Florida for Christmas I wanted to tag the state high point (as a mountaineer I figured this would be a good way to stay in shape over Christmas)...problem is it's quite a drive from where my parents live. I saw that Perry, FL was roughly the half-way point. As we were driving through town, me and brother got HANGRY. So I fired up Yelp and found this place. So, so glad I did that. The portions are huge, the quality is awesome, and the service makes you feel like you're part of the family. It's hard enough to find BBQ in the NW that fulfills one of these, let alone all three! For less than $10 I got: ribs, beef, pork, AND chicken! Oh, and TWO sides..on and TWO pieces of Texas Toast...oh, and COBBLER for dessert (you have to ask for the cobbler, and if you do...they bring it out FOR FREE) My only complaint was that their "hot" BBQ sauce was a bit funky and could've used some more heat. read more

We were driving down Hwy 19 S, when we saw a local place that was filled to the brim with jacked up trucks and 4x4's. The sign outside had a pig near a camp fire and the sign said BBQ. So we thought to ourselves, hell lets try this place, looks like a local favorite. So we went in all the people nodded and said hello, very friendly people. Very kid friendly atmosphere, basically what you'd expect in a small southern town. We sat down and ordered our food, BBQ Ribs, Chicken and pulled pork, hush puppies, corns and ..... CORN FRIED FRITTERS. All of it was great, it was a wonderful place to stumble upon. And I have to say I'm now a BIG fan of fried corn fritters! read more

In the area for a week, decided to try the best rated BBQ. When you pull up, it's a pretty old looking building. We weren't even sure if it was open. It was. Went in sat down and received our menus. Wow, couldn't believe the prices. Made us wonder if the food could really be very good. I ordered the 3/4 lb ribs with two sides. Excellent and less than $9. If you eat in house, you also get a small serving of either blueberry or peach cobbler. Hubby had the smoked turkey, again less than $9. He commented that you probably couldn't even buy that much turkey in a deli for that price. Service was excellent. Be forewarned, the seating is in hard wooden benches. So, don't let the building deter you. This was a great find. read more

This is our second annual stop at Goodman's. The food is plentiful and tasty. The waitstaff is friendly and engaging. If you follow "The Parking Lot is full" method of restaurant choosing, you will end up here every time. We read the reviews for some other local establishments, and even pulled up to two of them. Still, their parking lots were nearly empty, and the menu's weren't really that enticing. We did not regret our eventual stop at Goodman's. Believe the advertising ~ the fried green tomatoes are yummy! The Brunswick stew is tasty ~ but not their best item. It has quite a smoky taste. The Smokestack is delicious, and easily enough for two. You also cannot go wrong with the barbecue plates. All in all a welcome break from traveling down Highway 19. Can't say enough about the staff ~ they're incredibly nice and quite efficient. read more

Stopped in here for lunch as I was passing through town on travel. The service was very friendly and the food cheap, but delicious. For an appetizer, I ordered fried pork skins with ranch and BBQ seasoning mixed, as suggested by my waitress. They were very fresh and tasty and came out crackling,which I thought was neat. I got the ribs at 2 pm, and was hesitant that they may not have been cooked long enough to be tender, but they were sufficiently tender and had a great flavor. Okra and sweet potato fries were yummy. I don't know where to begin... This place got two stars because I must of just had a rare experience because it appears the whole town of Perry is here scarfing down the plates of food in piles! We ordered hot wings, barbecue white meat chicken, rib special, cheeseburger and grilled cheese. My hubby eats anything and said his was "good"... Kids were starving from road trip and they liked the burger and grilled cheese. My chicken came sparsely in between two pieces of cold garlic bread with a few fries that looked plated like it was someone's old plate of leftover fries...seriously. Upon the KOA Campground recommendation and YELP reviews we ordered take out from Goodmans of a rack of ribs, and fried green tomatoes. Must say the portion size is generous and a bargain. The ribs are Not fall of the bone tender nor are they baby back ribs. Tasty, but not tender. The FG tomatoes were delicious. The decor is spartan and sure can use an update and thorough cleaning. The BBQ pork sandwich from Goodman's is a great idea in theory- slices of pork with barbeque sauce sandwiched between two slices of garlic bread. How great does that sound? Unfortunately, this concept sounded way better in my mind than it did when I actually ate the thing. It was accompanied by a small bowl of potato salad that was kind of mushy but fairly tasty. Good family style BBQ restaurant. I wandered in late at night and the staff made me feel at home even though I was not local.... Had the 3/4 ribs - they were awesome. Not too dry, not too gooey, and even without the sauce the taste was great. Try the mustard based sauce - lit us my taste buds w/o being over powering. The sweet tea is very good - like the old days - sweet but not sugar sickening sweet. I also recommend the salad. Got it with blue cheese - I think they use a meat slicer on the various greens.. very unique. We stopped for lunch traveling through to Clearwater. My husband had the turkey sandwich with beans and potato salad and I had the chef salad with chicken. My chicken was a little on the dry side but all in all the salad was very good and there was plenty of it. The blue cheese dressing was extremely good with large chunks of cheese. My husband's turkey was very moist and good. I have to admit I was surprised. Most of the time turkey is dry but this was very good. The potato salad was tasty and not bland. We go every March and October for the mud bog event in town every year. We asked the workers of the parts store where we should eat (small town, not much to offer) and they strongly recommended Goodman's. The best part about this place are the prices. In 2016, there's nowhere you'll find a bbq sandwich for $3 and change. One person ordered 16 chicken wings for $8. I will agree with a few other reviews which say the food isn't the "best" quality out there, but you can't beat the amount of food you get for the price you pay. I also agree the service could use a little work but here again, for the price I'm paying, I'm ok with some average service and average quality food. So, read the reviews on this barbecue place and we thought we'd check it out. Walked in and didn't really understand the system, we just wanted to get some food to go. Got in line and kind of stood there looking through the menu and this nice gentleman waiter walked right up and said "hey do you guys need to order?" We placed our order with him and then waited on our food. While we were waiting, another lady walked up to make sure that we had been taken care of! Needless to say the service was spectacular and everybody was very friendly and helpful. We got the rib combo dinner, 25 wings and the four meat platter. Everything was incredible! The wings were huge and very meaty and the hot was a delicious flavor. The ribs literally fell off the bone delicious! and the sauce that came with it was wonderful. We arrived yesterday after a long day out. We chose this location due to the excellent Yelp reviews. The restaurant was extremely dirty with a film of dust on everything. The atmosphere was okay but we were treated as outsiders in this small town. We waited quite awhile for our food and we're not happy with what we received. Great small town BBQ joint. When driving through a small town your rule needs to be to look for the place with a wait. Fortunately we got the last open table during the dinner rush and didn't have to wait. We started off with a young girl as a server who seemed to be having a bad day and was took a while to get our drinks until we had a second server who was a lot more attentive and willing to be our server.
