Candy store, kitchenware, antiques, baby items, Christmas/Holidays, regional tributes, and Colonial Americana galore. Call them directly for their hours, as they are limited and seem to change at the owner's availability. Do not trust Yelp or Google hours, as they are definitely outdated. I was driving home from Deep River in search of a new antique shop to browse. For some reason the Country Store came up. It wasn't too far from my path home so I decided to stop in. Don't get me wrong, this is a beautiful gift shop, but should not be tagged for antiques. There was one box of vintage ads from the 30's & 50's and a few decorations on the wall. I did not see any prices on the displayed items , so I assume that they were just for show. I did find a "just because" gift for my mom, so the stop was not a total loss. This store also sells Connecticut and it's town themed ornaments and ceramics. Always good for those friends and family that are feeling a little homesick. I would recommend coming here if you are searching for a unique gift for a wedding, new baby or a female in general. There is a small selection of gourmet foods, such as; tea, coffee, honey, dips, popcorn & soup mixes. Large jars are filled with candy to gift or snack on. Paired a beautiful mug with a tea or coffee and a coaster set and you have a gift ready to give. If you're searching for antiques, you'll be disappointed like I was. I was in the area with my cousin and we'd heard about this gift shop, so we drove over to grab some candy. Upon entering, the woman working was on the phone and didn't even bother looking up. She was talking loudly about remodeling either her bathroom or her kitchen. Tiles tiles tiles. She went on and on about the installation of her tiles, really loudly. Keep in mind we were the only customers and the shop is very quiet. It was so annoying. I heard the whole story about her damn tiles. The shop itself is cute - there's a huge section of candy and a section of American flag stuff that was weird (can't really explain why, it was just bizarre) another country-store type items - soaps and gifts, crafts. We grabbed a bag of gummy candy and it was like we were bothering this woman to put her call on hold to ring us up. She was friendly, but it was a rude experience. The gummies were totally stale and had a weird wetness to them. We threw them away. I wonder if this woman got her tiles fixed properly - she seemed really annoyed by whoever was installing them. i always leave Goodspeed Station happy. For lots of reasons. the gift selection is amazing. The staff is helpful when I am having trouble choosing which pillow, placemat, wreath, or floral to choose. I don't have little children to shop with but when I left the other day, a little girl and her dad were in the candy room. The little girl was having trouble deciding which candy to get. As I was walking out the door the clerk asked if she liked chocolate and would she like to try some. I'm not sure of other people's experiences but it sure seemed to me she liked kids! These are trying times people. It's tough to run a small business nowadays. Do we live in a perfect world with perfect people? Absolutely not! But bashing someone's business on social media is not the way to handle things. A little understanding goes a long way. read more

Went to this store yesterday. The poor clerk was overwhelmed with Rails to Trails people killing time the in store, and coming in groups when there is a limit on people allowed in the store! Please leave room for other shoppers! Since COVID 19 there is no more self service candy. There is no more self service anything!! Bring your patience. It must be difficult wearing a mask ALL day at work and dealing with people who are less than patient. My experience was great. Waited patiently till I could get my candy order, got some amazing candles and a gorgeous decorative pillow. read more

Writing this review saddens me. I moved to Haddam in 2007 and discovered this store shortly after. I have shopped here regularly for all of these years. I have brought my visiting family to shop here (and they spend a lot). I stop in to buy birthday gifts, holiday gifts, candy, Halloween decor, all of my coffee mugs, art on my walls, etc... After this weeks visit I will never return. Over the years I *thought* the owner and I had built a rapport. Hell I've probably spent a few thousand dollars there in the last 15 years. We have had conversations about many topics. One thing I did always find odd was that she would complain about customers after they left the store. The first time it happened I thought, well maybe they were bad customers. But it happened again and again and again. I was there three weeks ago, and between my aunt and myself we spent at least $350. Yesterday I visited with my mother and daughter. After I left the store, the owner struck up a conversation with MY OWN MOTHER and started complaining about me and my daughter. She didn't know she was my mom because we didn't walk in together and we were browsing the store separately. I am so DISGUSTED and DISAPPOINTED in her immature and rude behavior. I should have known better. She talked crap about other people who had just spent money in her overpriced store, so why not me? I will NEVER return, my mom and aunt who visit 3-4 times a year and ask to shop there every time will also never return. I plan on telling everyone I know about this because that is NOT how you treat long term loyal customers. You shouldn't even treat a one time shopper who comes in and doesn't buy anything that way! It's bad business, it's bad ethics and it's just wrong. And just so everyone knows, she hates having children in her store. She has an entire room devoted to candy, but sneers at children. Oh well. We live and we learn and we find new places to shop with friendlier and more authentic humans. read more

But we had small children with our group and the two women (store clerks) clearly don't appreciate having children in the store, needless to say our children are very well behaved ! Why do you sell candy and frown on younger children in your store?! DON'T sell candy then!!! They need to probably hire some women who have a little more patience and actually welcome their customers young or old! Won't be back there anytime soon :( read more

this store is pretty neato. it is situated along the train tracks along the river. an old building full of crafts, candy, funky stuff. seasonal stuff - right now it is full of lots of christmas oriented things. if you are tired of sitting at home looking at a computer you probably could find a bunch of unique last minute gifts here if you didn't already buy everything on amazon. friendly staff, nice cat. read more

One of our" must stop" when we are in the area. Interesting shop with a wide array of merchandise. Enjoyable place to relax and take your time trying to find that special gift or cards. My husband waited for me in car for an extended time and owner noticed and gave me some candy for my husband. A nice touch and found staff to be friendly and helpful. Will be returning before Thanksgiving. A stones throw from Goodspeed Opera House and restaurants. Has ample parking and is worth exploring. read more

The store itself is nice with country wares, candy and antique things. It is a little pricey in my opinion. What got me is that the only thing the girl who checked me out said to me was how much I owed her... no "hello", no "did you find everything you needed?" and no "thank you."
