The St. Albert location recently opened this fall (2014) in the old Rona location across from GoodLife Fitness. It's as bright and clean as any thrift store could possible be. They have a drive up section, where you ring a doorbell, to drop off gently used items (VV gives back to charity every time you donate through the Diabetes Association). I have a friend who works at a different location and she had lamented that they were pulling all their best things for months in preparation of sending the best of the best to have the St. Albert store stocked for its grand opening. Be sure to sign up for e-mail notice of sales, their Super Savers Card, or bring a Senior on Tuesdays for 30% off if you're looking for a deal or going to be a regular. A word of caution/advice - you need to either know what you are looking for or be on a mission for something one of a kind. Buying George brand or Cherokee brand leggings for your little girl for $2-$4 used here is simply insane when you can buy them brand new for $3-$5 on sale. But for a pair of dress shoes likely only once or twice or a vintage jersey to wear to a themed party or the perfect ugly Christmas sweater - this is most definitely your place!

I was not impressed at all with their prices. For used item they are pricey especially if they get there inventory from donations. They're selection is massive. I only explored about five percent of the store. I found this jacket that they were selling for $20.99 and cost co is selling it for $14.99 (on sale). I had to do something about that price!!! I asked the front desk to look up the real value of the item. I don't recommend this store. Winners /Marshall's wells cheaper items than this store.

A bit smaller than the Whyte Ave location but it has a great selection of clothes and goods. Nice and clean inside. There is a donation drop off zone outside. A large parking lot services the strip mall so you should never have an issue with parking. I like this store as it is way less busy than the Whyte Ave location so that makes the shopping experience a bit better.

Of course I've been checking out garage sales and thrift stores for the gift exchange, so I popped into the Bissell Centre Thrift Shoppe on 118 to see what they had. The store isn't is an okay size, but its pretty crowded, particularly in the household and random hodge podge aisles on the west side of the store. You can't have more than one person in the aisle, but on the upside I guess that means more stuff to peruse through. Apparently there can be good deals on books, but I didn't really check that out. I was more flabbergasted at all the childhood items of mine that were there, like the weird Ikea space lamp I had as a kid, or the very 90s floral jewellery box I used to own. It was like entering the twilight zone - or stuff from the 90s and early 00s are now thrift shop worthy. This is a thrift shoppe so prices are pretty cheap. It should go without warning that quality isn't going to be 100%. These are donated items so you have to decide if the cost is worth it for you to fix/upgrade/repurpose whatever you buy, since there may be wear and tear (or more) to the items here. Of course you could also pick up something in great condition - all part of the joys on thrift shopping. The Bissell Centre is a great local organization that helps low income Edmontonians . Everything in the Bissell Centre Thrift Shoppe is donated and the money here goes toward other Bissell Centre programs and initiatives. It's pretty cool to save some money, while helping the larger community at the same time. If you're in the area, and like a good bargain The Bissell Centre Thrift Shoppe is worth checking out.

Fantastic little place…read more The book section is not nearly as big as it used to be, it's downright tiny really (honestly, now likely the smallest of any thrift shop in the city), but I did notice that they seem to receive good titles, in great condition, and they are very very well priced. They do have many *new* goods as well as the standard used items you typically find in thrift shops, which is a result of many corporate donations. Something that I've noticed is more common in smaller true charity shops. Despite the size of the store, there is an impressive small furniture section at the back. A much better selection than you would typically find at Value Village. I feel that this is a good place to look for higher end labels, not priced as high as VV & Goodwill, and not as picked over as some other places, proportionally a great selection given the size of the shop. I spotted a couple of pairs of super cute Michael Kors wedges in brand new shape for $20 (black and tan, in 6.5 & 8, respectively - same style). I actually ended up buying a pair of Marc by Marc Jacobs sunnies for $18, that are current season and selling at The Bay for $155. A bit of a hassle if you want to try anything on though, as there is a three item limit for the change rooms and you need to ask a clerk to unlock the door for you. Also, bigger ticket shoes are displayed in singles. I suppose both of these are a reflection of the higher crime rate in the neighbourhood. Free parking abounds though, which goes far to bring me in. Anyway, you can't really go wrong with a place like this: thrift shops have many social, environmental and economic benefits... the only thing they harm is my closet space.

You definitely need time to kill and openness to see something you might like. My parents and I have been here a few times. At first my mom was skeptical but now she gets excited to go. We've gotten a variety of clothes, toys, stationary, and household items. With some persistence and luck, you can find some pretty awesome brand names. I've seen brands like Nike, Adidas, Bench, Helly Hansen, North Face, Victoria Secret, Zara, True Religion, as well as brands from Aritzia and Anthropologie. I've also found some great Paw Patrol, Fisher Price, Leap Frog and Disney toys here. Items vary in condition from like new to very worn out. In general I have found most of the items to be visibly clean and without any bad odors. The other thrifters can get quite focused and somewhat aggressive when it comes to being first to pick from the newly stocked bins. The staff roll the bins in from the stockroom and into these allotted "parking"' spaces in the main room. You can gather around the newly brought in bins but the staff will indicate when you are able to dig into the items. Until you hear the go ahead, you are definitely not allowed to touch. After the initial rush, most shoppers abandon the bins and you are free to go through the bins at your leisure. You learn quickly where the new bins are coming in. It's pretty obvious when you see a group of people gathered around an empty space or full bin ready to pounce. They have large metal shopping carts but you are to leave these at the perimeter of the store. You are not allowed to bring these alongside of the bins. It makes me nervous to leave my treasures unattended on the sides of the store. They also have smaller black plastic shopping baskets on wheels which you can bring with you to the bins. This is definitely a unique thrift shopping experience. I joke it's like one step above dumpster diving. It's also a lot cheaper than going to a regular Goodwill store. When it's time to pay you roll your cart over this scale that's built into the floor. You pay by the pound. The cashier will then tell you what you owe. Don't get nervous because it's really cheap. I've paid $17-$22 for an overflowing basket of items. You can definitely get a big bang for your buck if you know what to get. I recommend bringing a garbage bag or large reusable bag to carry your purchased items home.

Today however I left the store empty handed and found the experience to be rather average at best. First though on the positive end of the spectrum I will say the store is VERY clean and well organized. It took my normal expectations of second hand store cleanliness and blew it right out of the water. Also the ladies working here all seemed really nice and appeared to be enjoying their jobs which really goes a long way in creating a nice atmosphere. What I didn't enjoy however was the very limited selection here. It's summer now yet the pants and long sleeved things were still dominating about 75% of the rack space I would say and I only found a single pair or shorts in my size to try on. Also I find it slightly concerning that this charity has started to creep slowly towards falling into the Value Village habit of over estimating the value of their goods. I found a disturbing number of George brand t-shirts for $3.99 for example....why would anybody pay that when you can spend 5-8 dollars and get one brand new? Not a terrible store by any means and it's a great alternative if you want to support a charity as opposed to Value Village but I think there are some areas they could stand to improve on. Goodwill is definitely still my thrift store of choice when out and about here in Sherwood Park.

I only visited the donation centre here, but what a wonderful experience! This is one of the few…read moreplaces open in the city right now that is excepting donations. Most other thrift stores or city run initiatives are not excepting donations due to COVID. I was able to pull right up to the doors which was very convenient as I had a lot of heavy boxes to donate. The lady who can and helped me was great! She pulled a large rolling bin right up to my tailgate and she even helped me unload the boxes. So grateful as I have a bad back and my strong husband was the one who loaded them into my SUV. It was so fast and easy, and unlike most places they were grateful for the donation of books. A lot of places don't even accept books. Felt great to support the community, and clean out my overly full book cases.
