This is the closest V.V. boutique to my house, so I tend to come here a lot. Today, I needed to replaced my Black & decker Steamer Plus Rice Cooker. I found a brand new one for &12.99. Compare that to $42.00 regular retail price. Happy. I saw some brand new ladies T-shirts with the original tags still attached. Around $6.00. I went for a little browse in the book isles, but it was so crowded, I thought I'd come back during the week. This section is kept surprisingly neat and tidy. Saturdays are so busy. I like thrifting at the Value Village on 82 Avenue. There is a good selection of merchandise and both the retail staff and the donation centre staff are friendly and helpful. What scares me is the number of homeless and sketchy looking people that hang around outside and inside the store. As a woman and senior, I for sure am concerned about my personal safety, even during the daytime! read more

I love Value Village Stores. But I also like things that are funky and retro too so that may help with why I like shopping there. I like checking out the kitchenware area a lot. You can come across cool retro dishes and kitchen stuff sometimes. You can find some eclectic artwork. You can find sporting goods, electronics, books, movies records, toys and of course clothes. I've come across some cool jackets there for a steal of a deal. You can get really good jackets that have hardly been worn sometimes. I also like buying clothing to do yard/garden work in. Of course they are getting really big int he Halloween game. Tons of costumes ideas with new and used stuff. They have promotions from time to time where you get a discount card. After so many purchases you will get a good discount on your next purchase type of thing. I'm glad to see these types of stores are thriving these days. Instead of people throwing stuff out it is great that these items get a second chance to be used or worn by someone instead of heading to the landfill. read more

Not too bad for a value village. They have a donation centre at the back which is easy to access, and this is quite a large location. They are particularly awesome around Halloween! There is currently an enormous selection of Halloween costumes and accessories. There are many aisles of clothes, books, household items, and a small furniture section. I find the furniture area usually contains a lot of dated, heavily worn and barely functional items, so I have stopped visiting this section. The other con I have about value village is their prices- many items are marked at the same price you might see them selling for new. If the idea is to help the disadvantaged, they're missing the idea here. Overall the store could be a little more clean and the staff a little more friendly, but the selection is huge. read more

I'm super into thrifting clothing, furniture and knack knacks. Value Village is always on my hit list. This one closest to my home but it's on Whyte Avenue so it's usually been ravaged by hipsters. All Value villages are hit and miss, it's the nature of thrifting. I went recently for a look and normally the furniture section is pretty empty but I guess Sunday night is a good night to go because there was tins f brilliant items including an amazing 70's trolly my gran used to have that would make an awesome bar cart. These are the gems I go hunting for! The store is pretty well laid out, small furniture section but they just can't keep it full for the demand. The clothing section is well organised and pretty big, clean changing rooms and the service is not too bad. It's a little slow at times but it's no biggie as long as they have good chat and service with a smile. I'm happy. See ya next Sunday V.V. read more

I love value village in general. Unfortunately this is my least favourite location across the city. It seems darker and less friendly than its counterparts. The selection seems smaller and the prices are overall higher. There are definitely still treasures and deals to be found but it will take a lot more patience and digging around. The furniture section is small and things are jammed together in the space it is in at the back corner. Their area allotted at Halloween is much smaller here too. read more

I go thrifting at least 3 times a week (I know, I'm addicted, no need to lecture) and I come to this value village occasionally. It's very close to my house and it's the cool hip place where all of the youths like to thrift, and that being said it's pretty busy. Since it's a thrift store it doesn't really make sense to rate this place on the items they sell. I find that this location is usually pretty picked over. That's not to say that I haven't found great things, but you really have to search sometimes. However, that being said there are some positives to this store. Staff are so great. There's one lady who usually works the change rooms and she is an angel. She'll always chat with me, and she recognized me because I come here often. Which, I mean, is kind of embarrassing (like, hello, I basically live here) but it's nice! She even gave me an opinion on a blazer once and totally wasn't pushy about it. The rest of the staff here are pretty helpful as well, I've never had a bad interaction. It's usually pretty clean. I find that other VV's in the city can get really super duper messy and disorganized really quick. This location always seems to have someone on floor keeping things tidy, organizing racks, etc. Also, there aren't children's toys literally all over the floor which is nice. I like to be able to walk around. The donation centre is great. They're not super stingy with their punch cards (at other locations I've given three large bags and they gave me one stamp) and the staff will notice you right away and come out to your car to take in all of your goodies. They also always thank you. Hey, manners go a long way. Also, the prices are good. Not great, because, well, the economy is bad and everything is expensive, but they're fine. They charge reasonable prices unlike some other locations. Also, there's a lot of cool stuff here. It might just be that there are some interesting people that live in the area but I've found my fair share of wicked cool antiques and quirky unique pieces of clothing. Also, Doc Martens. I've found about 6 pairs of Docs here. (Does this mean that they're going out of style and people are donating them? I hope so. I look forward to being un-trendy in my super cool shoes if that's the case.) For negative things, well, I wish they had a bigger area for large furniture. At this location everything is kind of squished into the back corner and it's difficult to find anything there. I do find that this is a common disappointing theme at most of the stores in the city, though. Overall, cool. Not bad, you'll have to dig. But the staff here are friendly and kind and helpful. I used to come here quite a bit as a teenager but then had a years long hiatus. My friend usually has good luck here so I decided to give it a shot. I did come away with a few items that I really like, but the store is sub par. It is incredibly dusty. As in, dry eyes within minutes dusty. As in, huge dusty bunnies all over the floor. As in, I couldn't even roll my roll-y basket because the chunks of dust in the wheels were so obtrusive. Gross. I walked out of there dehydrated and with a headache. The store is quite big but not clean or tidy. There are also too many categories for my liking: cardigans, sweaters, short sleeved blouse, short sleeved t-shirts, etc etc. Just amalgamate them so I don't feel like I'm missing anything, please. When I paid I specifically asked "What's your RETURN policy?" I didn't see any signage anywhere and she didn't point any out to me. She said it was seven days. I wasn't sure about a purse I bought so I went to return it a couple of days later. There were signs everywhere stating that they don't accept returns only exchanges. While I think this policy is ridiculous, it is what it is and that's fine. However, I specifically asked for their return policy and the original person didn't say exchanges only. I then wasted a lot of time going back to return something that I wasn't sure about and ended up having to keep it because I didn't want to wander around another uncomfortable store to find $30 worth of stuff. read more

I don't get the hype about Value Village. I get it for Halloween - great things can be found here depending on your costume, and the prices are right. But all other time of the year, I don't quite understand what the appeal is. The store seems dirty and sort of smells gross too. I have never found clothes here that have appealed to me - after all, someone else hated them enough to throw them away. Sometimes I am intrigued by their bags and accessories, but usually these things don't even come to close to something I would wear. I also don't like the fact that I don't know where their profits are going. Are they simply selling my old crap, or is there anything positive going back into the community? I have no idea because this information is not advertised. I would feel better about shopping here if I knew that it was doing something good for my community. read more

I have been a thrift shopper for years but I have noticed a disturbing trend in the last two to three of those years of stores slowly raising prices closer and closer to original retail. I will gladly pay a mark up on a Roxy hoodie for instance but certainly not when the front decal is worn and the string is missing. If you ignore the higher end clothes the rest of the merchandise is still reasonably affordable. Most of the shirts are in the 2-9 dollar range and the pants usually sit in the 5-11 dollar range. I really dislike their shoe section as it seems everytime I go there are usually several dirty pairs and I wonder why their sorters didn't just toss them out. Their housewares section is quite small considering the size of the store and I think they could stand to try and bring out some more dishes and useful household items of that nature versus the little junky decorative dollar store figurines and vases. The staff are pretty friendly and the dressing rooms are well manned to avoid piles of reject clothes building up. This place DESPERATELY needs a cleaning though. If you walk around long enough carrying a few items of clothing when you set it down in the dressing room there is likely to be a ring of filth on your hand and I have noticed piles of dirt built up in the corners of dressing rooms. Don't forget to check out their jewelry case before heading to the cashier to pay for your purchases! I don't think the people that price this stuff have a full appreciation of exactly what it is they are pricing. I found a really beautiful vintage ring once for five dollars. This is not a terrible thrift store by any means....just very very average. I wish they would work on providing a high quality experience throughout the year and not just at Halloween. read more

I would have to say that the 34 Avenue Value Village has officially become my favourite VV. And even the Hubba Hubby has been convinced about the awesomeness of this location. Last Saturday we visited as I was looking for a small piece of black fabric and i know that there's a huge book selection for hubby. There were lots of people there Saturday afternoon, but not too many that it interrupted the experience. And there was so much to see - I think we spent a good two or more hours there. I was so impressed with the merchandising in the home wares section - to the point where I made sure to mention it to a staff member. It's just little things - like clean stores, available staff, plethora of change rooms and more. Not to mention, we scored big - hubby came home with a beautiful Kenneth Cole sweater, a great cardigan, blazer, tie and a Banana Republic button up shirt that fit him right on the money. And I scored a sweet sweater vest. Plus we had fun! And now hubby wants to go back to get some books. read more

I have found many interesting things here but I much prefer the one on 34 ave. It is cleaner, brighter and has better stuff. This store is dusty and strikes me as catering to older people. I agree that the items are way too categorized. Pants, Shirts, long sleeve etc would be easier. I also wish Value Village wasn't a "for profit" store as it can be so expensive. They are donated items and they will ask close to the original price. Then you have to add on gst as it is not a charity. I have bought some great pieces of fabric, new shoes and vintage clothing. I love come here to look for second-hand books, and they have a pretty decent selection, all divided into various categories and most in pretty decent condition. I don't like pocket books, so about half of their book inventory I ignore altogether; and the books are not overly priced, about 5 for $20 (buy 4, get 1 free), depending on what kinds of books you pick up. There are large amounts of clothes and random nic-nacs and furnishings to choose from, although I usually steer clear of these. There's usually a short wait to pay for your items, and some things seem a bit pricey for a second-hand shop. If you're a big Halloween fan, like this guy, then this is a good place to check out, because they always bring in plenty of NEW costumes, make-up items, and decorations. read more

Value Village is a great place to go if you're looking for a Halloween costume -- which is, I guess, the reason I've been there the last couple of times I've visited. It's also a good place to find second hand clothing, of course, and I've visited there in the past for that reason, but the line up for the change rooms makes it less than ideal for that purpose when it is crazy busy like it is in the lead up to Halloween. I like the fact that there's a good mix of costume accessories and new costume items and the normal second hand store finds. It's certainly better than many other pop up Halloween stores around this time of year. The cashier had the best Halloween hairstyle when I was there and the staff were really helpful when it came to finding just the right Halloween items! read more

The store is kind of dirty. I had hangers of clothing I wanted to try on hanging on my arm while I shopped and when I finally got to the change room and put them down, my arm was covered in black filth and grease. I also was struck by huge sneezing fits while shopping because of the dust in the store. For the most part, the store is fairly well organized and sections are clearly labelled. The majority of the stuff in there is clothing but there are small sections for housewares, books and other miscellaneous items. I've noticed that the prices of clothing there has gone up in the past couple of years. There still are cheap gems hidden in there but they are few and far between. read more

I don't know what it is about Value Village, but I can never find anything to actually buy there. I don't go very often, but when I stop by to donate some stuff, I will check out what they have. I can never find anything! This location is no exception. Although this location is a bit more up-to-date than some of the other locations I've been to, it's still not what I would call "modern." The clothes, for the most part, are dated. I don't know how else to describe the theme! Everything at every Value Village I've been to is dated. Even the dishes and candle holders! With that said, I think Value Village is a great place for people who are struggling. Clothes are cheap and sometimes, we all need a break like that. Especially with an economy like ours today. This is one of my favorite Value Village outlets. (The other is located on 118th Avenue.) My favorite sections are Women's Knit Shirts, Shoes, Kitchenware and, especially, Books. I have problem feet for which shoes can cost a fortune, so I always check out the Shoe Section first. Yesterday, I found three pair - all brand new: Pale Blue Reeboks for $15, a pair of NatureStride sandals for $8, and a pair of Dawgs white babydolls for $5. I also found a brand new, recently released novel by a great British thriller writer and, when I checked out, I was smiling because 1) I am a senior and it was 30% Off Seniors Tuesday, and I got a few stamps to fill out my card - good for 30% off on other days. One thing about this store is that there's always the possibility of surprise (like finding three pairs of beautiful shoes for my Size 11 feet). read more

I like this VV location for the awesome mix of modern geekery (Lots of thinkgeek and threadless t-shirts, gameboys, manga, etc..) and retro kitsch. The prices are okay (often on the pricey side for used donated stuff), but I always leave with a few neat treasures. They're also pretty good at keeping the toy section relatively tidy, making it easier to get my cart through while my daughter plays away. The staff has always been friendly here, and also very accommodating if price tags are missing or unevenly priced (one thing is higher than something exactly like it). This is a must stop location for the 50% off sale days that they hold. read more

I've been to this Value Village more than any others in the city and everytime that I've gone, I usually find what I'm loking for with no problem. They may have alot of things that are somewhat dated but I seem to find clothing that's not dated at all! These stores help me find things that I have a hard time finding elsewhere. Today was the first time I have been in a Value Village for about 3 years and my first time at the location in question. As I was standing in line the girl in front of my was inquiring about the Super Savers Club Card. She was told go on the internet and sign up. She said she didn't have internet. The staff told her go to the library, she replied, I can't afford a library card, they are about $20 dollars per year here in Edmonton, Alberta). One staff member was extremely rude to her and called her out on the situation asking other customers including myself if library cards really do cost money because she didn't believe her. Other staff chimed in telling the girl to go get some friends and print off the coupon. She told them she just moved here and didn't know anyone. I felt terrible for the girl as she was just trying to save some money and the ignorant staff singled her out for being "poor". She was buying 2 pairs of dress pants with coins. The girl left and said next time she will go to a real thrift store where people actually care. After the girl left, the staff member who was rude to her said to me "can you believe that girl?". I was disgusted. I am disgusted at the way Value Village staff handled the situation and I think it is ridiculous that the Super Savers Club Card is only available online. How are people that actually need to shop at Value Village because of lack of money suppose to take part if they can't afford internet. **Addition to my post***: Last night I found that the City of Edmonton has a wonderful program on their website for low income residents where you get a free recreation pass and a free library card. Visit the cities website to find out more, it is called the Leisure Access Program ... it looks like you have to have a permanent address in Edmonton and have your last Notice of Assessment. This Value Village has a great selection. Also most books are under $4! I am a student and have done a lot of thrift shopping and this value village is my favourite spot. I recently bought an Aeropostal fall jacket new with tags ($80 new) for under $10. There is tons of stuff new with tags that just requires a little bit of searching. I also really enjoying buying yarn and needlework supplies. In order to thrift shop well you have to understand quality fabrics and look very closely. I have found tons of brand name stuff here! read more
