Haven't been to this location in a while. Now that I'm back in Alaska i was searching for pillow cases and this was the only thrift store open. I didn't want to go because when i lives in Texas I visited 2 Goodwills there and everything is over priced to be used. And it was the same way at this location. I was looking for household items to either cook with, decorate a little or to see if something catches my eye. A few things did but i refuse to pay $12.99 for a old scratched up frying pan and i can get a new one for the same price at Walmart. I saw a plate for $5... $5.00 like really. Goodwill is suppose to help people get back in their feet, but with these prices i don't see that happening. I know they do for the community and hire people with a record to get them in they feet. But if your getting the majority of your items for free from the community how can you sell a blanket for $20 that's old, and nasty looking. I prefer Value Village I can find items there way cheaper then here. And even if the pan is scratched it's not $12.99. But the cashier was awesome he did a great job being cheerful and knowledgeable. read more

I was on the hunt for some items to refurbish and decided to stop by Goodwill in midtown. I was a bit surprised as to how busy it was at 6pm on a weeknight. I didn't grab a cart, since I figured I wouldn't find much, but should have in the end. I looked through the faux flowers and there were some pretty decent wreaths and garland for decor. I debated back and forth on four pieces and ultimately decided to pass. They were all the same style, two had one color of berries and another color on the other two... weird thing was, one of the four was listed for $14 and the other three for a mere $4.99... I'm sure they would have made them all the same price at the register, but I decided against them after lingering for a while. The store seemed to be well organized and was put together fairly well. I imagine it's difficult to keep a thrift store in an orderly fashion. I did find a few pieces to repurpose and felt they were all very well priced and were in good shape to do with as I planned. I strategically carried all my glass/breakable items to the register and the gal was super friendly! She apologized for nobody offering to get me a cart, which I quickly told her was no big deal. She rang up my items and as I pulled out my trusty bag, she stepped away and came back with a box that fit everything with ease. I thanked her profusely and went on my way. The two additional people I passed were polite and acknowledged me, which was very pleasant. I was amazed at the amount of unopened items, still With store tags on them. Tons of Christmas stuff, bows, boxes and such! The two little cake stands I bought were definitely brand new. When I'm on the hunt for project stuff, I'll be back to see if there is a new little treasure to refurbish. read more

I went here looking for Christmas sweaters, trying to be "authentic" and not just buying a brand-new-made-in-China-sweater one at a big box retailer but... They had NONE. Not one! Sure they had plenty in the women's section, but the men's section was a festive-wear desert. I did shop around a little bit and I found the prices overall to be pretty high for what they were selling. I probably would just rather buy a lot of this stuff new. Cool new addition to Anchorage thrift shop scene. In particular I really dig their DVDs, albums and books. Of course they have a massive selection of clothing. I was pleased to find a pair of brand new "salvage" gloves that would have cost 5 times as much elsewhere. There seemed to be quite a few items labled "salvaged" that were new that were insanely cheap. My partner found an brand new ergonomic snow shovel, same deal, crazy cheap brand new. I came down here after work yesterday to check out if there were new arrivals in their vinyl section. Goodwill is located next to New Sagaya on Old Seward Highway across from the University Center Mall in the old Mountain View Sports building (or the old KHAR radio station if anyone remembers). The employees here are helpful if a little distracted with their duties when customers are waiting at the registers. Cleanliness can be a hit or miss but most of this can be attributed to customers not putting things back where they belong. The shelves housing the vinyl was filled with new arrivals along with several boxes of 45 RPMs lining the bottom shelf. All vinyl are priced at 99 cents, the cheapest deal you can get at second-hand thrift shops compared to the book stores and antique shops around town. The 45 RPMs were on sale for a great deal at 10 for $3.99. The only downside is that some of the vinyl I wanted to purchase can be dirty or in poor condition along with some album covers that have sustained water damage from being stored in a moist, humid environment for many years. New arrivals can be few and far between compared to other thrift stores who constantly replenish theirs as often as once a week. Also, depending on what time of day it is, the wait can be unnecessarily long while waiting for someone to ring you up at the unattended registers. However, there are plenty of items throughout the store in exceptional condition for the price if you look hard enough. People making donations will also get a discount coupon for 15 or 20% off when shopping at the store. read more

As a customer I was treated as if I was stupid and my concern was dismissed by the floor staff and the assistant manager. We were kept waiting for 15 minutes and were basically dismissed. As Walmart as superstores and regular stores, so does Goodwill. This is a regular store. I like to visit for clothing and craft items. This location typically has a good selection of yarn and crafts. Of course just like any thrift store you never know what you will find. This place is popular so be prepared to wait a few minutes to check out. But it's not that long. If you are a senior be sure to always ask for the senior discount which is 10%. Every penny counts. The store is clean and the staff tries to keep up with keeping the shelves organized, which is tough. There's a good selection of books and clothing. It's a great place for thrifters to find that treasure. read more

I love this place! The employees are all really nice. The place is clean. The bathrooms are clean. There are always good finds. If it's not Target stuff then it is usually very reasonably priced. If it's Target stuff your wanting it's best to go to Target the clearance of their own items is cheaper. Dropping off items to this store is also much faster & easier than donating to value village or Salvation Army. You just drive up and their are wheelie bins right there to use. They give you a tax receipt with a coupon. You don't have to fill in anything or sign. read more

This is a really good looking store and the items are nice, but the clothes are way over priced in my opinion. I asked the cashier and she said they look items up online and compare retail value verses condition of the item when figuring out the price. That's ridiculous to me. It's a thrift store. They're still selling USED items that were DONATED to them. Way to be greedy, Goodwill. I did buy a couple of items, but they were from the housewears section. I can't see myself buying clothes here unless they had the 50% or 70% (75%?) off tag color. Disappointed. read more

We donate our items here, and started going inside periodically to check for any cool records to buy. The records are cheap, and it's a crapshoot on when new ones will be donated, so why the need to just keep checking. It's fun to just walk around sometimes, as you never know what you might come across. What I love about this place is how CLEAN it is. Everything is well organized, and it reminds me of going to Ross' in the lower 48, which is a regular retail store. The customer service is always professional, too. I love the mission of Goodwill (if you don't know about this charity, look it up), which is why we continue to donate here. Compare that to Value Village, which is a FOR PROFIT organization, which is a huge difference. read more

Came in for the first time and was pleased with the merchandise and the pricing. It was a Sunday and it was 50% off on the red tag and 75% on the pink tag. I got a blouse and a skirt that still had it's tags, a beautiful piece of art, and some cooking utensils. I will come back again to peruse as the sale will be through the week. I went into good will the other day and could not believe the prices. I did not buy anything there that day and do not plan on it anytime in the future. Or at least until they figure out they aren't one of those name brand stores you go shopping at in the mall. Goodwill has more new stuff than old anymore. It's like walking into Target but the prices are higher at goodwill than they are at Target. What happened to this place? Its sad to see just how greedy Goodwill has become. Their sales are going to start to falling soon, if they haven't already. I was always told that Goodwill was a non profit organization. I have only been to this location. (Next to the old Sams Club) and I really enjoy going here. The employee are very friendly and usually smiling. The prices are reasonable. Sometimes the donated items from Target can be a little expensive (usually more than what Target had them clearances at) but if you didn't buy them when they were at Target than you choose to pay more or don't buy at all. They have a huge selection of DVDs reasonable priced and the video games they don't have a huge selection but sometimes you can find some good ones reasonably priced. I really like that they do the color rage discount. It's 2 different colors and one is 50% off and the other is 75% off which is nice. I will continue to shop here for years to come. read more

(With the receipt) The manager informed me they don't do refunds, exchanges or credits. I explained that I read online they do. She said "not in Alaska". Wow!!! Not happy. Needed some new jeans and khakis as the ones I had were getting thin and had small holes near the seams and frayed at the cuffs (Khakis actually split at the knee when bending down to pick stuff up), so it's past time I got some new ones. While running errands looking for a few items that didn't have to be new, I meant to go to the Salvation Army but forgot they were closed on Sundays. I figured that I would stop into Goodwill just to see what they might have, partially out of curiosity as well as to see what other things I might look into getting. Spent 10-15 minutes walking through the store and became completely and utterly DISGUSTED at this company. The pricing is so disgustingly overblown for their items. For reference, all the used men's jeans I saw were priced at $14.99. A brand new pair of jeans is $18.99-$20.99 at Target/Walmart/K-Mart. A used, well-worn 2.5'x2.5'x2' wood shelving unit/entertainment center there was priced $99. A brand new wood shelving entertainment center of that size at Target/Walmart/K-Mart runs about $60. Smaller items like $2.99 for used water bottles I can buy new at pretty much any "Dollar Store". This is beyond disgusting to me. I will NEVER enter any Goodwill again, nor will I ever even donate anything to them again seeing what they are asking for stuff that was given away to their keeping.
