I like and respect the act of running a game store in this day of age and even within this state,…read morehowever as a person with a lot of knowledge on this scene, they are *way* to overpriced and they do not offer much for credit. I visit every time I go to the mall but Christ it's horrifying looking at those prices, for example I was cowering the Wii section and I came across 2 copies of Mario kart going for 60!! The cases were even discolored and it's super easy to find the games going for 25 in a better condition on eBay. Additionally I came in there last year and was shocked by the trade in credit they offered me, I had been amassing about 300 dollars worth of games I picked up for a couple bucks at various garage sales and thrift stores and they only offered me 50 bucks for everything. Literally just one of the games I offered them was worth that amount. Just looking at their consoles is crazy to me too, 125 bucks for a n64 is absurd which from my knowledge has been in their case for months. I got mine a couple years ago for about 50 with games and some original boxes. Lastly I think they are really shooting themselves in the foot here by not expanding with more modern titles, most people in the scene have no interest in anything older than the ps4 and Xbox one, yet those sections are some of the smallest in the store. I personally collect every generation and console, w about 20 consoles and ~600-700 ish games but I am obviously not the norm. With the closing of the GameStop right below them they have a massive opportunity to take over in the modern games department.

However, I didn't come in here for the video games. I came here for the significant collection of POP! figurines that they had displayed on a shelf next to the registers. This Gamestop is located in the Dimond Center Tower next to Bosco's Comics and Mrs. Field's Cookies. I never thought about collecting these pieces until a couple of co-workers had me started after seeing their collection of extensive and far-reaching pieces of the pop culture world that they were modeled after. Everything from movie characters, musicians, UFC fighters, WWE wrestlers, TV series, late night personalities, NFL players, and game show hosts among others had piqued my interest and I decided to start a 1980's era collection to display on a shelf in my office area. The employees here were very friendly and easy to talk to as I approached them. When I asked about the POP! Figurines, they became excited and started talking in great detail about what they had in their inventory and what to expect for new pieces being released in the upcoming months. I asked for any pieces from the 1980's and the manager immediately showed me several, pointing out that some of them were hard to find and only available in their stores. The ones that really stood out were Clark Griswold from National Lampoons Christmas Vacation, a classic that shows him holding a cup of eggnog in his hand with the Christmas hat, Hans Gruber, the villain from the first Die Hard film, Josh Baskin, Tom Hanks's character from the movie Big, showing him in the memorable scene playing on the giant piano, and Hannibal Lecter from Silence of the Lambs. Although the movie came out in 1991, the detailed figurine showing him in the orderly's uniform holding the razor blade was something I couldn't pass up. I was expecting to pay full price for all of them, but I lucked out when the manager told me that two of them were on sale for $5 each down from the regular price of $11.99. I was also given a list of the upcoming POP! Figurines through the end of the year and had the option of securing any of them on presale in case they sold out quickly. Some of the upcoming figurines included Maximus and Commodus from the Russell Crowe movie Gladiator, Arya with the 2-headed spear, Bran the Broken, Theon Greyjoy with the flaming arrow, the Mountain, Sansa Stark, the Night King with the dagger, and Jon Snow from the final season of Game of Thrones, James Bond characters including Baron Samedi from Live and Let Die, Le Chiffre from Casino Royale, Honey Ryder from Dr. No along with Daniel Craig's Bond character from Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace, Rob Zombie, Wyatt Earp, Doc Holliday, and the Earp brothers from the Kurt Russell movie Tombstone, and Xena: Warrior Princess. It was a great start to a new hobby thanks to their help.

I am in Alaska for vacation and since most of my vacations incorporate some thrifting/antiquing…read moreshopping I decided to Yelp some nearby locations. This store popped up and we decided to stop by. FYI there is a coffee/soda shop next door (another review for that place also done). This store was in a plaza, plenty of parking spots. At first entrance once inside, it looks tiny and the way things are set up, I was thinking that prices were going to be expensive. Don't be fooled, it may look small but there are a lot of great finds. This particular store is focused on women clothing, accessories and some home knick knacks. There is also another FashionPact that is HUGE and has kids and mens clothing, books, home goods, etc... But back to this location...everything is organized by sizes, they are inclusive and also have a plus section. FashionPact has a section by the front door that features items that they have posted on their social media accounts. If you fell in love with the item, you can come into the store and purchase or also they can ship the item to you. Check out their accounts to get details. At first, you think this is like all other thrift stores but two cool things that make their store stand out. They have dynamic pricing. You see the price of the item listed at the top of the tag, then if the item is not sold by the date listed, the price is reduced. If the item is still not sold, then the third price listed is the final purchase price. Such a simple concept, but it made me realize that their purpose is to sell merchandise and leave space available for new donations. Plus, in selling then money could be donated which brings me to the second cool thing about this store. As a buyer, you can pick which local organization gets a percentage of your total purchase. If you donate clothes, you also get to choose. Shopping and choosing where to donate makes you feel good. They have a screen at the top of the register that shows the local organizations, but if you want to know more about the groups, they have an iPad next to the register so you can read more about the groups. They have the organizations divided by categories such as, animals, arts, education, etc. There are so many choices and all groups are local! How awesome is this! If you are not too busy shopping, all throughout the store, you can spot the thank you cards/letters/drawings from these organizations for the donations. I went twice, back to back to this location and got so many good deals. Scratch that, steals. Good clothing and accessories for under $10, but most were under $5. My brag from this store was a Columbia pink fleece zip up jacket with tags for $5, wow!!!!!! The other items that I also purchased were used but in excellent condition or with tags. The sales associate was sorting through donations and when I came back the next day, there was a lot of new items in my size section. SOOOOOOO sad that there is not a store like this in the Bay Area. I did tell them they should open one up and they said that they have friends in SF that have told them the same thing. Sadly, rent would be a killer around here. Staff was so nice. I know this place is not touristy but for sure this is a dream store for any thrift store lover. I joked that I could come to Anchorage with an empty luggage and challenge my self to only use clothes bought from any of the FashionPact locations. If you live in the area, lucky you. Stop and donate or shop, you will be helping the local community.

**July 2024: Saturday Afternoon Visit**…read more I almost don't want to review so that I can keep this gem all to myself; however the mission of this thrift shop is so heart warming that it would be a crime not to share. It's a nice boutique and everything is sorted by garment type and size. There is a fitting room for patrons to try on outfits and good music to keep you in a good mood. Pricing is very fair and there's two prices listed on each tag. After a certain date the price cuts to half. On my visit my mom and I were able to snag a couple of half priced items and two full priced ones, which was still a steal. My coat was $10, blouse $5, and I think my mom got two wrap dresses, and a blazer with everything being under $50. Now if that doesn't make you feel great the proceeds go towards a charity in Alaska and you can pick which one your purchases goes towards. We chose the zoo and hope everyone will go support this little shop when visiting Anchorage.

Alaska Auctions is located directly behind Duane's Antique Market on E. 75th Ave and Briarwood St. I have gone to countless garage sales, estate sales, thrift shops, and bookstores for the best deals and steals on vinyl records. I have never participated in a silent auction online. This was something I've only seen on TV and I was tentative based on the negative reviews others have left for this place. After seeing the photos of the records up for auction, I decided to take the jump and signed up online. In order to participate in the auction, you would have to do a $1 deposit on your credit card along with a 15% buyer's premium added to your total if you get the winning bid. I balked at first but since the opening bids on the records were starting at just $10 or more, I decided to go along on their terms. The first silent auction had a large box of records and two unopened bed sheet sets starting at $10.00. Someone had taken the opening bid before I countered at $12.50 a short while later. Not expecting to win this auction because of the low price, I logged off and decided to check back on the closing day. Amazingly enough, when I logged back on, my bid was still the high one with only a few hours left before close. Later on in the day after finishing work, I received an email from them saying I had won the auction at $12.50! The 15% buyer's premium was just a mere $1.88 which came up to a total of $14.38. What an amazing deal! I quickly drove down to the auction house after work and I was delighted to find a large box with lots of records, most of them in good condition. The new unopened bed sheet sets were just the icing on the cake and I decided to donate those to the Anchorage Pioneer Home for Christmas. A second auction came a week later. This time I was notified by email on vinyl records up for auction starting at the same bid of $10. This time I had some competition when someone took the opening bid . I countered with $12.50 but was immediately countered with a $15.00 bid right after I placed mine. I decided to check back on the closing day. When I logged on, the bid was still at $15.00! I thought maybe the person with the higher bid was confident on winning the records with only a few hours left before close. I decided to make the smart play and made a last minute bid at $17.50. The auction was extended by another 30 minutes with my bid and I waited anxiously to see if someone would respond. Shortly after, I received a second email saying that I had won the second auction! Score! I went down to the auction house after work to pick up the records and sure enough, a large stack was waiting for me in their inventory room. This was such a fun experience. I can now add this as part of my vinyl hunting options if another auction comes up in the near future.

As I told you, all I was looking for were the planks to route for tongue and groove on a cabin, which I buy new from Lowe's for $9/board. And for the lie I apparently said of me spending "thousands"... I have won a total of 106 lots with Alaska Auction Company amongst 18 different auctions within the last year. Before the buyer's premium, my total is $1,524.50. After your buyer's premium and 4% card fee, I have spent over $1800 in the last 12 months with Alaska Auction Co. But anyways, again, a manager of a business is calling a customer a liar. What manager using those words, accusing me of being a liar, and on the google review platform, accusing me of being someone else. Such executive words for a leader and manager to call their clients. ***Original Review Below to the managers response before my update*** Alaska Auction Co was always great to me, the Spanish fella and sword swallowing fella were always so kind, but a very deceptive auction with multiple complaints and a manager that does not know how to talk to employees or customers, called both myself and her own employees "confused" multiple times after posting a very deceptive lot. Lots are not described accurately, and they will blame it on you for not drivin 120 miles just to "preview" the lots. I have never driven to preview any lot because I always assumed I could trust the company and their description. I was completely wrong and learned the hard way. Don't ever assume or it will make an ass of you and me.
