This is a pretty decent size Goodwill with more than 3/4 of the floor given over to clothing and shoes. All the hard goods are located at the very back of the store. It is relatively well merchandised with a little bit of furniture in the back corner. They do have five dressing rooms and the bathrooms don't require a key. Finding hidden treasures at a Goodwill seems less likely these days since they'll usually just add it to their online store. However, if you're just looking for clothes for the kids, knickknacks or a used pair of shoes, that should be in line with your expectations. They do have weekly discounts and color tag sales. Kind of a pain to get to from the Beltline, but fairly clean and organized. There's a pretty large selection of clothes, some furniture, and a more limited supply of home goods/shoes/toys. While helping my boyfriend browse we noticed a lot of shirts in the men's section were actually women's - it seems that any plaid shirt gets sent to the men's area, regardless of cut or Ws on the tags. *shrug* The best find on our visit was probably the toy section - there were a few vintage Fisher-Price pieces that were around $2 each - a quick search of eBay put them around $10-20. I kind of regret not picking up the FP radio just because it's a fun nostalgia piece. The checkout was efficient and the teens working had good customer service skills - eye contact, thank yous, etc. This location is a bit out of the way, but I may venture back sometime to check for more underpriced vintage goodies. read more

Best thrift store in Madison by far. It is well organized and I have found lots of clothes from here! Most of my closet is from here.

I tend to want to give thrift stores some leeway and benefit of the doubt. I understand what they are, and why they are there. This particular one, however may be among the worst-run shops I've been to in the Madison area. I realize this is an older location, but it is dark, dingy and the stock is literally just piled up, much with no rhyme or reason to the groupings. Staff was indifferent, and as Goodwill tends to do the pricing is all over the place. Some actually higher than retail, others just inconsistent. Depends who had the price-tag gun today I guess. The selection is pretty ok here. Household items and furniture are usually in good shape and tend to move quickly. I'm a big buyer of shoes though, and this is where the store loses points. Someone needs to remind them that they are a Goodwill store, not a fancy consignment shop. For years, all of the non-boot/athletic shoes were $3.99 - now they've started marking most of them (with an impossible to remove silver marker, at that) for 7.99-19.99. Scuffed Franco Sarto slingbacks from 2002? $11.99! Worn Merona shoes from Target? $7.99! Why? When I recently asked the cashier to pass along my complaints about the prices, I was told that management knows, lots of people have complained about the shoes, and they don't care. Well, obviously. -Insert speech here about how low prices at thrift stores keep products moving quickly, resulting in more sales.- It's not just the shoes, the pricing in general is not consistent. Picture frames of similar quality can go from $5 to $50, for example. To make it better, the customer service here is terrible. Rude employees will shove in front of you to place product on racks, rude cashiers won't greet you, and some of the conversations I've overheard between employees is not appropriate for the work place. read more

There's something about an organization that bases their goals on helping the community. And I sincerely appreciate Goodwill (and St. Vinnys) for being such an influence in South Central WI and helping people get jobs. I also appreciate them for being well stocked days before Halloween, and helping me with my utterly cool (and disposable) costume. I am constantly trying to be a minimalist, and "relieving" myself from the superfluous things (hello Buddha?), and as such getting rid of them (hopefully to be used by others) makes me feel good. (Then again, something else ALWAYS takes the position of the said donated items). However, sometimes donating is a bit uncomfortable, especially lugging around very heavy bags filled with clothes (who would have thought, clothes WEIGH A LOT) So it is because of this that I COMPLETELY appreciate Goodwill of Verona for having a drive through drop in center. The idea is GENIUS. You drive through. Their friendly and smiley attendants tell you to open your car, and tell them what. They take out said items. Give you a receipt for tax purposes (I never use it, I never get enough deductions to matter... ). Drive away. You've done your contribution. And may treat yourself to a top at Bop. hehe. But seriously, getting rid of stuff is great. It's easier to clean. Easier to search your closet. If you don't sub what you donated, of course..... read more

Goodwill positives: *Getting there is relatively pain-free since it is off of Verona Rd. Saint Vincent's on Williamson is funky but that street and parking usually stress me out. *Parking is easy. *Plenty of changing rooms. *They always have womens' suits. This works for me. *Awesome drive through donation area. *Clerks have been good to me. *Organizing clothes by color is good for me. *Pretty easy to find a decent pair of dress shoes. Goodwill negatives: *Prices seem to be climbing. However, if you are in the market for a designer item or other diamond in the rough as I am, you are still doing much better than retail. *You have to check clothes over carefully for spots or holes. *They don't deliver! A downer for furniture. *Maybe 3 out of 5 visits you will hear a screaming or whiny kid in the store. For a long time. Hmmmmmm. Maybe this is payback and I did that when I was a whining kid. In the end, it is a thrift store and treasure seekers will always return for more. read more

This store had a class ring that belonged to a person I know. They told my friend that if they wanted the ring back, they would have to purchase it. Also, if they claimed it was stolen they would have to have a police report. My friend's ring brought Goodwill nearly $300, yes, that's $300 profit for them and my friend did not buy the ring. Most days they have 20-25 class rings on the Goodwill site. I've seen some bring over $300, again that's profit to them. For some reason this particular Goodwill thinks class rings are actually donated, instead of accidentally left in something that was donated. I also want you to know, I have found several people who's rings have been on the Goodwill site and I HAVE yet to find one that meant to donate their ring. Now, I ask you, would any of you donate your class ring to Goodwill. This Goodwill seems to think they do and even told me people donate them. I sure want to know when they donate theirs so I can bid on it. I believe it will be, a cold day in you know where, before that happens. I spoke with Goodwill International and was told every Goodwill group has their own CEO. That's right. Also, just try getting in touch with someone from Goodwill besides a customer representive. I ASK YOU not to donate to this particular Goodwill or should I call it Nogoodwill, because that is what they actually meant when they would not give my friend back their ring. I also ASK for you to donate to thrift stores that benefit you locally. They are your better choice. read more

Oh, my goodness! I stopped at this location last week and the store had so much merchandise the staff was having trouble finding places on the racks to put everything. It was jam packed. I didn't find anything to purchase that day but many people were finding treasures to take home. This is a great store. One idea to free up some floor space would be to stop accepting long sleeved shirts, winter jackets and sweaters during the summer and use the space to add more racks of household goods. read more
