I am currently looking for a wedding dress for my tiny wedding ceremony I do not have the funds to pay for anything expensive so I go to the local goodwill where they receive all their items for free! I am looking and see a wedding dress I look at the tag it is 99 dollars when they received this item for free to help another family and it is over prices is crazy. i recommend going to donate your items to MAKS(making a kid smile) or a domestic abuse shelter where they items you donate will actually go to good use and families who need it and foster children who can use them get them for free. read more

This Goodwill is pretty good. The selection is often solid, one of the better men's sections in the Goodwills in The Region. Most have like 5 XL t-shirts, and no, I'm not trying to wear someone's old Hollister shirt. Hollister is wack. I hardly walk out of this establishment without buying something. Also, this may be a secret, but they have a Scooby Doo section. Just ask anyone, you'll find it. For as small as the location is, you're going to find some good stuff almost everywhere. Why I only gave it 4 stars, you may ask? Because I went to this Goodwill in Muncie once, and now I'm a spoiled brat. That Goodwill was sick. I got tons of shirts there. Also this is 4 stars because the t-shirts are $3, when other Goodwills (like that Muncie one) have them for $2. Why the inflation? Just curious. The coolest thing I ever got at this Goodwill was definitely, undoubtedly, my Atlanta shirt. I ruined it with a stain, but I still love it. Also had a bleach incident with it, but life goes on. I understand the whole idea of helping people, don't let my profile fool you, and hell I've even donated alot of things to Goodwill, but their prices are waaaaaaay f***ing out of line. They would get rid of a lot more of that SHIT if they sold it for less and therefore help more people in the long run. I mean come on, a box of frickin plastic stick on bling for your car (who in their right mind that is old enough to drive a car would buy that shit anyways?) was $6.50. It is fun to walk through and laugh at goofy crap like that though. I think that's why we go. It is also fun seeing what they are charging for the stuff you brought in a week before that wasn't good enough to keep. We try to donate useful things, but some of the swag in there is rediculous. Maybe one day I'll find that priceless painting like them lucky f***s on the Antiques Roadshow do....I think not. read more

I love goodwill and other thrift stores just to walk through them and see what they have. It's always like a treasure trove for me even if I don't buy anything. I like the Portage one because it's the cleanest in the area (it's also the newest though I think) and because they occasionally get target overstock stuff somehow and I've scored some cool stuff that way. However the like the previous reviewer said they charge way to much for stuff. For basically being a huge garage sale their prices are really quite high. It is well organized though for a goodwill and not as crowded as most so it gets 3 stars. read more

I have went to the Portage Goodwill for years but it has changed into an overpriced, overrated used junk shop. The electrical area has a sign telling you to check anything electrical because there are no refunds, and believe me. you better! It is so messy and dirty, they should be ashamed to put half the products on their shelves, especially kitchen items such as food processors etc.. Much of their glassware is chipped and taped shut so unless you un-tape it you won't know until you get it home. Don't forget to take the lids off the plastic ware and get a good look, much of it is either badly stained or stinks and the lids are taped on those also. Come on people - take some pride in your store and dump the trash! Offer the people items that are worth buying. read more

I find great deals there...my mid century vintage kitchen table was $14.00, plus I used a 15% off coupon that I received from donating...so you do the math. I recommend: 1. Signing up for their MGB program-receive monthly $5.00 off coupons that CAN be used with 50% 2. Look out for grocery store $5.00 off coupons-CANNOT be used with 50% 3. Get your 15% coupon for donating 4. Sign up for the MOM program ($4.00)-you receive a bag to fill and donate and then you receive a stamp for each donation...after a certain amount of stamps you will be given a $25.00 voucher The employees there are just to damn sweet also, always smiling and willing to help you out! read more

Don't get me wrong - I have always enjoyed shopping at Goodwill. However, I have volunteered at both the Valparaiso and Portage locations and have been dismissed by both. The Valparaiso location claimed that I was "lazy" and "read books all day." Please note - I am NOT a book worm by any means. The Portage location dismissed me for some unknown reason(s) that I was never informed of. I actually tried my hardest and still felt like that wasn't good enough. Being on welfare, I feel like I was frowned upon more than anything. My kids would get sick and be sent home from school/daycare, which caused me to fall short on my hours, and I felt like they didn't understand or see those situations as a viable excuse. I am a single mother with no support system - what else do you expect me to do? I'm not going to leave my sick child at school/daycare. I feel my dismissals were highly uncalled for. Also, the management teams at both locations had the audasity to speak ill about me behind my back even before my dismissal, and actual employees came to me and told me so. Those people even said that they'd heard through the grapevine that they were spoken ill of as well! Just unbelievable. read more
