AMAZING!!!! We LOVE LOVE LOVE this place! We had 4 adults, 4 teens (3 are boys), 2 preteens & a 4 yr old. No one was bored, my boys are hard to please, they loved it & look forward to going back. They were sooo wonderful & kind to us, made us feel like family. One gentleman was kind enough to hook a trailer up to the truck (normally used for hay rides) and took all the kids for a ride on the back trails. The petting zoo is small but sweet, the kids loved spending time with the animals. The grounds & views are spectacular. They had a band & beautiful fireworks for the 4th. My understanding is they usually have a band & small celebration on Memorial & Labor Day wknds. They do something special for Halloween (although idk how scary it gets). Cox Camping is much more than a typical campground, they want their campers to have a great time & do everything in their power to ensure it. I don't know of any other campground that does the same. read more

If you love camping, either with family, some friends, or on a personal sojourn, Gary's is where you will find yourself, figuratively and literally. I want it all to myself, but I'm still compelled to tell others about this gem because of the way it has stuck me. Sitting atop the the Cacapon Mountains of West Virginia is a tucked away but easy to find respite that features exclusive mountain views, deciduous beauty, well marked trails, and recreation for kids, couples, and the solo traveler. I personally have enjoyed huge and manicured tent sights....camper and RV hook ups....and lodge-style cabins with cable, internet, and streaming services. Want the woods to rock you to sleep? Done. Want to drift off in a queen bed to your favorite binge show? Done. Want a lodge with a game room for the kids next to a fully stocked library with lounge chairs and wifi? Done! Don't Bother After a 45 minute drive to the site, they decided to charge us double since we had 2 vehicles. We were tired and upset but had nowhere else to go so we paid up. 44 dollars for one night on a tent site with 2 people - AAAARRRRGGGHHH! We have been to lots of other campgrounds on this trip and NOBODY else charges us double....need to re-think that policy. Facilities are marginal (portable toilets and showers - think outdoor music festival...). Lots of junk piled around and not much else going on. Only stayed long enough to sleep, shower (in the porta-toilet shower) and get out. WiFi only at lodge and no cell service (ATT) - not their fault but just in case you need to call home. read more

Let me precede this review by saying that this campground isn't going to appeal to every single camper. But for my husband and me, it was simply perfect. We have camped in a lot of different places, and none of them had all the features and amenities we were looking for, until we found Cox. We arrived on Thursday afternoon and paid about $70 for two nights for a site with water and electric. One of the staff led us to the loop and let us choose which spot we wanted. There were a lot to choose from, as there was only one other spot occupied in the entire loop! We set up camp and started enjoying our stay. One of the very best things about the place was the serene stillness. No traffic noises, no big rigs and their generators, no throngs of people. Just birds, cicadas, and rustling trees. We slept like logs. A few notes: The campground is at least ten miles from the nearest grocery store (the Food Lion in Berkeley Springs), and the road is hilly, curvy, and the last two miles are poorly paved. And there really isn't much to do in the area other than enjoy nature. There's a game room in the main building, but we didn't use it. The sanitary facilities are limited to portapotties. At first I was unsure about them, but there was zero odor even though it was hot and humid. But since we had our own toilet setup, we didn't need to use them. The shower is in a converted oversized portapotty, with a vestibule for changing. The water was hot and the pressure was high, which was a great surprise. There is WiFi in the camping areas, and it was strong enough to allow me to join a videoconference. Firewood can be purchased for $10/21 pieces. This is quite a good deal; at most parks we've gone to, you get like 6 pieces for $5. But since it was pretty hot, we didn't want to sit around a fire. To sum up: If you are looking for peace and quiet when you camp, and don't need a lot of bells and whistles, this place is perfect. read more

This is my first time at Cox Camping, friends rented the cottage, a little cabin and the neighboring campsite. This is the perfect place to relax and spend time with friends and family. Everyone is satisfied with their rentals and it looks as though they are making a lot of additions to enhance the camping experience. I was not sure what to expect reading a negative review from 2 years ago, either this place has improved immensely over the past 2 years or the reviewer doesn't appreciate CAMPING. It is not a luxury hotel experience, but has everything you need and more. I have been pricing camp sites for the season, most camp sites limit the number of tents on a site to ONE and the cost is outrageous for that one tent and car and cost 2 to 3 times as much. My low expectations came from the idea that the price was so LOW paired with that review. This place is awesome. It is not a resort, but a perfect camping spot. The owner is really cool and let us walk around to check out the other rental options. They are building a pavilion for events above the office and apparently have music throughout the year. Overall, I'm very pleased with my experience and look forward to coming back and bringing more friends. read more

Well-run family campground near Berkeley Springs, WV. Sites available for all size campers and tents. Group sites are available. There is a lodge, pond, laundry and bathrooms with showers. There are also a few cabins and a bunk house. Extended stays are available. There is an elevated deck for great views of the Fourth of July fireworks and other activities. The owner is a great guy-very friendly and attentive. I highly recommend this campground! read more

Great campsite. Just a quick 2 hour drive from DC. We wanted to get out of the city and in nature for the weekend and were pleasantly surprised to find a campsite that wasn't overly crowded on memorial day weekend. We chose a basic site for $15 a night. The site had a fire pit and a few tables and benches. It was short walk to the portable bathrooms. The bathrooms were a little nicer than your average port a potty, more spacious and made of wood so it didn't have that horrible plastic oven feel. You can also request a campsite closer to the main lodge that has regular flushing toilets and showers. Vic Cox was super friendly at check in, he even had us hop in his truck so he could give us a tour of the grounds and we could pick our campsite. The lodge has a store area that sells antiques and trinkets and a few of the basics. There's a phone outside of the lodge for calls because there is zero cell service in the area. For kids there's a big playground area and even a little petting zoo with some goats. I think I saw a turkey in there too. And some pigeons and chickens. The campgrounds are pet and alcohol friendly. Overall a great experience, especially for the price. We'll definitely be back! read more

We just stayed at Cox Campground with our two puppies and had the most fantastic time. The campground is excellent for RV trailers they have a number of pull through sites and all Sites have water and 30 amp service as well as a picnic table and a fire ring. There are trash cans nearby and multiple dump stations. The campgrounds has excellent trails with streams running through the area and awesome Scenic views. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful and even loaned us a propane tank when ours ran low. They have a nice little store that sells a number of items and when we purchased firewood they delivered it to our campsite. We will be going back to this Campground again and again and I could not recommend it more to everyone. read more

Great place to go to find peace and quiet and a whole bunch of nature to enjoy! Was there today and it is beautiful! Love the mountains and the campgrounds were large and spacious and Mr Vic Cox was truly a friend to us right away! If you are looking for a get away, this is the place and not far from the Glen Burnie, Pasadena area. Up 70, a beautiful drive to West Virginia, Berkley Springs, can't get any better than that!!! read more

No WIFI unless you go to the so called lodge. We were told we were going to be put by one of the cabins that had WIFI so we could use it but it wasn't any. Website says they have WIFI, lol. Also asked for a 30 amp breaker to run our camper and we were put on a 20 amp and had to call to get them to flip the breaker for us. We couldn't run the air conditioner and microwave at the same time, ugh! WE had to go flip it several times. Water was shut off by kids and we didn't have water and wasn't time to get our water heated to take a shower, had to use theirs. Not so great. When we called to get reservations we were told they only had one spot left. When we got there there was only 1 camper there other than the ones that people permanently lived in. We do not like being lied to. There is no music at the lodge, and we were there Labor Day weekend. So with being lied to, water being shut off, not hooked up to a 30 amp breaker to run our camper, we were highly disappointed and won't be back. The guys were nice if that takes in any count. read more

Had reservations for this past weekend and once I got there, I was told the place was shut down by OSHA or some organization. I never received an email or phone call that they were shut down and the drive to get there was almost 3 hours plus I had friends coming about 2 hours behind me. I had to drive all the way back to the Panorama for any signal and once i got up there I called Berkeley Springs Cottage Rentals - who i have used 10 times - and they had ONE last cabin left for me and my friends plus their 2 dogs. I would not have panicked BUT I had friends and their dogs on the way and no signal! I have stayed at Cox twice before without any issues but I have no clue what happened this past weekend other than I get there and a family who lives on site said that all water and electric was shut down and OSHA was all over the place. Changed your website if you are shut down!!!! You let us down this weekend. Not even a email or phone call. read more

We had our hopes up that we found a new campsite. You are going to pay dearly to camp there. The site says $20. to pitch a tent. That is $20. for each tent you pitch on that camp site and each site is big enough to pitch 4 tents. So that was $60.00, firewood .50 cents a stick. It is not family oriented, if you have children over 6 years, there is nothing for them to do. The playground is all plastic toddler toys. There is no place for older children to play. The petting zoo is not much at all, just a few hungry animals. Rest rooms a porta potties. To take a hot shower you have to drive down to the main office or take a cold rain water shower. What ever you do, do not go for the rustic camping the camp sites are all branches and stones and on a hill. We wanted so much to like it but it was a nightmare. So our search continues. The campground might have to nice about 10 years ago but it is all run down and in despair. The antique shop is just a bunch of junk. We are not picky people but this is not for family campers. read more

This is a great place for kids or just adults weekend. If you are looking for a laid back place without all of the water parks so the kids stay around the camp fire and have fun with family this is the place. This is the way I remeber camping before all the water slides and pools came into play at camp grounds. Family fun. Hot water in the bathrooms, showers, fun games and they make you feel like home. The website doesn't give you the fun feeling when you look it up but it really is a great way to get back in touch with the family or just to get away from a busy schedule and relax. If you are looking for a place that is full of high end things this is not for you. If you are looking for peace and quiet and a great place to camp and site see the areas around wv or just to stick around the camp site and take in all the great views this is your place. Trust me do not camp here unless it just you and your spouse not meant for a family with kids. They say on the web site a fishing pond all it is is a run off pond the water was very muddy (not good at all for fishing). They don't even sell bait!! My kids were so bored and disappointed. They went to the petting zoo but got scared when a goat tried to ram them. The kids play area is nothing bout small plastic yard toys. The camp site was nice but we had three tents one for my wife and me, one for my three boys and one for my mom and COST US $ 60 dollars!! Must be why there were only two other tent campers in the whole camp. Wood cost .50 cent a stick if you can bring your own. We camp a lot and want to try a new site what a mistake. The camp site we usually go to is yellow creek in Penn Run, PA, $20 dollars per night and $8 for a huge tube of wood delivered to your site and a nice trout stream right next to the site. Kids love it and never compline. Most of the reviews talk about how Vic was so nice and helpful must be relatives cause I seen nothing like that. I was very disappointed and will never camp there again, wish that I never camped there. If I only could give it negative stars I would. read more
