There is a large expanse of grass which is used for sports activities, picnics and in the summer hosts the Christchurch Regatta. There is also a band stand at Priory end which is used for public entertainment and shows. There are boats for hire in the summer and you can also get a ferry to Muderford Beach from here, once again in the summer. There are plenty of ducks and swans on the river here and children spend many a happy hour feeding them - though the swans have been known to get too close. If you can overlook the fact that the facilities are a bit tired (a major facelift is probably overdue), the range of activities on offer is exceptionally good, and the facilities are well-kept and clean. The trampolining sessions run for both adults and children are an absolute scream - the trampolining coach is very patient and encouraging. The pool attendants are diligent and professional, and swimming teachers kind and patient with the kids. Excellent place.

Hengistbury Head is a Nature Reserve and dates back approximately 60 million years and consists,…read morenowdays, of a pebbly beach and large grassy plateau called Warren Hill. There is endless hours fun there with the hill to climb and explore, there are several different trails which take you up, down and along the middle, children are free to run their energy off and parents will enjoy the scenic views across to the needles by the Isle of Wight, Muderford Beach, Muderford Quay and Christchurch Harbour. There is an education centre based on top of the hill and this is used greatly by all the local schools to teach them about all the nature abundantly available there.
