We had the worst experience working with this company. The manager, Kevin is a fast talking…read moresalesman and very disrespectful to his staff. As a homeowner, we trusted that they would abate our asbestos safely and follow proper protocol. After they finished the job, our electrician discovered that they left large quantities vermiculite in the attic and wall cavities and purposely stuffed fiberglass insulation over the vermiculite to intentionally hide it from the inspectors. These areas were easily accessible to their workers and could be reached by their equipment (and easily visible to our electrician). They lied and said the vermiculite was removed from these areas. I suspect that his workers had been trained to purposely cut corners to save time and hide their incomplete work. This was a shocking discovery. They put our health and that of our contractors in great jeopardy by leaving this cancerous material so easily accessible. When I called to have them come back to fix the problem and finish the job, fortunately they did return. However, then we had to witness Kevin yell at his workers, blaming and shaming them for the problem. It was completely inappropriate and a bit staged. I will never work with them again, and would never recommend them.

Each time (but the last one, obviously), we had to call them and cancel the visit. Each time they were incredibly easy to reach despite one being at 7pm and another with less than 24 hours of notice! The voices on the end of the phone each time were sweet and caring and offered just the right amount of sympathy for the lost house every time we had to cancel. Finally, we didn't have to cancel! We've had the pleasure of working with Mike and Karen, and we talked to Mark a few times. Mike and Karen did the actual review and we couldn't be happier. They were on time (though we were not...) and immediately got to work taking pictures and taking notes. We had scheduled four hours for the inspection and we used every second. They both showed kindergarten-teacher level patience with us as we followed them around and tripped over our own feet asking questions. They walked us through everything and provided context to their points to make it easy to understand. I feel like I can actually read a boiler now! They answered questions we didn't even know we had. We expected the report the next day, but it arrived at 11:01pm that night. I'm not sure if that's always the case, but our house was in great condition, so there weren't a lot of things to elaborate on, but it was still a thorough 53 pages. Having that report and knowing exactly how each aspect was examined gave us the kind of confidence that we needed to buy our first house. I really can't express how pleased we were with our treatment and you can bet that when we buy our next home, if Hawkeye Home Inspections is still around (only because we don't plan on buying another home for a while), they'll be hearing from us again!

Within a couple weeks of moving in we went to clean the tub. Filled it and began running the jets only to see the water level dropping about 1/2 inch over 10 minutes. They are the lowest quality of inspection you can find. It was haphazardly rushed so the inspector could leave to meet up with his wife in NY that afternoon and we are paying the price. I have tried to work with the dishonest Mr. Male. He refuses to take any responsibility or offer any reasonable remed. He is also refusing to provide license #s. That in itself should tell you what type of business they run. They collect your money, show up and look around like it's an open house showing and then when there are issues they will deny all responsibility. Had they done a thorough inspection we would not be in this position. hell, if Mr Male could find a plumber capable of doing the repair he thinks is needed we would not be in this position.

I can barely change a lightbulb, and for years I put off buying because I didn't want to deal with the hassle of knowing how to fix things. But then I fell in love with a house, and everything changed. My realtor had set up a home inspection with another company, but when I looked them up, I saw tons of negative reviews. I figured that this would possibly be the most important investment I could make; I am not equipped to deal with a house that has lots of hidden issues. After seeing all the positive reviews for this company, I switched over. I could not be more pleased that I did. Dana explained everything in great detail and in language I could understand, and he went through the house with a fine-toothed comb. This home is a renovation, and everything is brand new, so my realtor expected us to be done with the inspection fairly quickly. Dana spent more time than he had to, explaining things to me, telling me about things I'd need to think of in the future regarding owning a home, and taking pictures of everything so that I have a record of where things are and what they do. Working with him allieviated all of my fears around us missing something that would end up becoming a huge expense to me. I felt like I had a favorite uncle looking out for me and making sure that he was giving me the guidance I needed in a process that is totally unfamiliar and kind of scary. I plan to be in my new home for a long time, but if I ever do decide to go through this process again, he will absolutely be the one I hire as an inspector!

When I did initally speak with him, he stated that "mistakes are made, but you paid to have a good job done, and thats what we did". I said No, I paid to have you remove all the contracted asbestos. I recommend that if you want the job done, contact someone else. The owner was quite willing to express a dangerous work ethic over the phone when I spoke with him later on. Here are further details about my experience with them, including the boss' sketchy advice: First, I had asked them to come back and check on a part that I wasn t confident about because it looked like the joints of the pipes had asbestos on it still. The man I spoke to (owner? Sam) said that he would come and check things the next day. He spoke about how concerned with customer relations he was and wanted to make sure things were fine. The manager did not come as he said he would, but instead sent two employees who had no idea why they were coming and who I could hardly speak with because of language barriers. They insist that what I was concerned about was just dust They proceeded to pick up a baby rag that was in my laundry heap to clean the part of the pipe I was inquiring about, all while I was standing there with my infant, and then they strongly emphasized how I should throw this rag away. A second air test was not conducted as I had requested. I wish I had insisted because the asbestos that they didn t remove would have been dry at this point, whereas it was likely wet during the first air test. It was too exhausting to try to explain to the employees why they were there to begin with, and I was confused at why the owner/manager didn t come as he said he was. Not to mention my confusion about how they had used my laundry to clean the pipe, and how they so emphatically insist I throw the baby blanket away. My husband and his friend removed a pipe in our basement and discovered that ABest had NOT REMOVED ALL THE ASBESTOS, but had left two 6 inch sections. These had obviously been worked on but not all the asbestos was taken off. They had removed the front area of asbestos, but not off the back part of the pipe, which would have been more difficult. Difficult or not, they didn t remove it. As a result, my husband and our friend had stood directly under the asbestos that we had paid to remove, and they sawed and hammered on the pipe, getting asbestos dust all over their face and clothing before realizing what had happened. The wrapping around the asbestos had been removed, the amount of asbestos on the pipe uneven (this was very different than the condition of the asbestos prior to their work) - obviously someone had worked on it some and just not finished. Also its significant to know that they ran the test while the asbestos still would have been wet. Upon talking to ABest, the owner became really angry and yelled at for 13 minutes, admitted that they made a mistake, and that mistakes are made but that they had done a good job . He told me that nothing would come of it if I contacted the EPA and that he "knew every individual who worked in the EPA with asbestos, so go ahead on contact them because I know every single one of them ." Also indicating their ethic -- while yelling at me, he told me that WE would get in trouble with the EPA for having moved the pipe (which is why he suggest I don't report him to the EPA) - yet he said I should move it back into the basement otherwise we might have to remediate the soil! Apparently he is more concerned with covering tracks than that the soil might legitimately now need remediation, even if it is lousy that we d have to pay for it. He laughed at me and acted very much like we did something wrong for having the asbestos there, he assured me that nothing would come of this, that mistakes are made and hurled many insults at me. As a result of their carelessness, my husband, friend, and children all were doing things they should not have done with asbestos around, He did offer to come and take the pipes away, but that doesn't change the exposure that has taken place. I would STRONGLY recommend AGAINST using ABest. Get your asbestos taken care of by someone who will take care of it.

Highly recommend him if you need a home inspection as a buyer! Now, for the lengthier review. My agent provided me with a list of home inspection companies, and after reviewing each company's website, GHHI stood out. I quickly understood what the inspection included, that the team had the necessary qualifications and certifications, and that they were a BBB accredited business with an A+ rating (I verified!). My husband and I had a laundry list of inspections we wanted done, and GHHI was able to provide most of them for reasonable, additional fees; at the time of this review, they also offer wood destroying organism inspections, radon air tests ($150), and comprehensive water tests ($250, includes water quality and radon). The total cost of the home inspection + all add-ons for a 2-story home with an unfinished basement was $1,125. This felt incredibly reasonable, and it was also very convenient to schedule so many inspections with one company. I've only had one other home inspection experience as a buyer, and while I remember that report being detailed and somewhat helpful, the inspector did everything himself for 3+ hours, so we had no context for the details he shared and we felt quite disconnected from the process. Jared (the owner of GHHI) takes a totally different approach, and I'm here for it. Jared arrived early and started to walk the property, and once I arrived, he explained his style and how he prefers for folks to walk with him. I was impressed with how thorough he was and his multi-tasking; not only was he performing the inspection, but taking photos and notes, educating me, and answering my questions. As an aside: I'm interested in learning about my future home but this is absolutely not my wheelhouse, and I think Jared did a great job of explaining things in layman's terms. The inspection took roughly 4 hours; I had a septic inspection at the same time, and Jared was very accommodating (and helpful!) when we needed to stop and chat with that inspector. Jared conducted our home inspection in the morning and we received the report that night! I appreciated that photos were included (for evidence purposes but to also jog my memory) and a rating system was employed. A Table of Contents made it easy to jump around. I think the report provided helpful general information as well as notes about recommendations and issues. While the amount of text was more on the concise side, I felt it was adequate and professional. Jared really went above and beyond during the inspection itself, so I think a review really needs to take that process and those conversations into account. I will take Jared's combo approach, which includes a thorough inspection with the client + conversations + a report with photos, over another inspector's approach that is quite removed and only includes a report. Again, I highly recommend Green House Home Inspection, specifically Jared. He was incredibly personable and ensured the inspection process was educational, and dare I say, enjoyable!
