The good: if you live in some parts of eastern Oregon like ione, it's difficult to get the net. This service is very reliable in those parts. The bad: Their customer service sucks, response time is poor and unless you're getting an install or cancelling, then they are almost non existent. I have no internet and ALL of the phone numbers do not work. No messages. AND when am I going to find out that Blue Mountain is taking over Gorge Networks. JUST AS BAD! the quality of the service is good with some packet loss of connection speed isnt always consistent, the major problem with this company is contacting the service providers. They take too long on processing for example my wifi keeps getting shut off and if you try to call them they will either be unavailable or takes an hour on the phone just to get my service back on . it was payed less than 2 weeks ago and my service is currently turned off again and have the call them tomorrow. read more

Pretty lousy ISP. Paid extra for a mere 12 mbps down. THIS IS NOT MUCH BANDWIDTH. Their competition is offering more than 10 times as much. So...what I end up getting is more less than 1 down to maybe 4.5 ---but only if downloading youtube for some reason. I can get as much as 8 or 9 if I play a couple of youtube videos at the same time...for a few seconds anyways until it throttles. But any other video streaming...or downloading a big file or Steam or whatever....no dice. It often throttles clear down to 400-600 kbps. Which is outrageous. It really does feel as if they are throttling some data. (And this is NOT a wifi issue. I use ethernet cable to directly connect to the router). So I call tech support and they do try...but no solutions. Internet is almost uselessly slow. Then they say to come get a new modem. But that does nothing. Still slow. Then they say they need to call me back to set up a tech to come out to look...but then they DO NOT CALL BACK. And this is after they didn't bother calling me about the modem. This is a trivially small amount of bandwidth for a price that should deliver 10 times as much. And they really don't seem to care. I'm switching to the competition. Even god awful century link if I have to. read more

Sadly our local internet provider is just as bad as the big national providers. We have had very inconsistent and poor bandwidth and the service isn't any better. If you can find something else you should try that first. read more

I have been with this provider as long as I can remember. Probably shortly after it started up and in a small house in Hood River. Today was the worst experience I have received to date. The wifi speed was abysmal and varied throughout the day. I was unable to fill out a form on line because it was so slow. I left them my cell phone number, but have been completely ignored. Not getting a returned call, I sent them emails from their website. Also no response. Fortunately there are far better companies that serve this area that actually do provide excellent service to their paying customers. I have signed up for a new one and will be getting far better phone and internet on Friday of next week. I always stuck it out with them all these years because I know how important it is for the local economy. But enough already!! I'm done with them. read more

If your Company office is in Portland. You work from a home office in Hood River plan on many un timely drives to Portland so you can work. 8/30/16 Net has been down for over 2 hours! Gorge Networks has great support staff and decent web internet. However their e-mail service is horrible. If you spend enough time with them you will eventually find that their mail server is ancient and is constantly having problems working with any Apple devices. The nicer technicians will actually tell you that you should set up a gmail account for e-mail rather than using Gorge.net. Unfortunately my gorge.net e-mail address is important for my business so I need to keep it. With most companies you could jus use their web mail to get around the problem. But their mail server is so ancient that it can not sort archived mails by size. So it you exceed the tiny 50 meg limit (not a typo!) you have to go through hundreds of e-mails to find the larger ones that are taking you over the limit. read more

The tech support is actually not bad, but trying to get the sales staff to do anything or send a guy out to do anything is very difficult. In an age of universal lousy customer service, Gorge Networks sales department is a stand out. Profoundly bad. I called three times the other day, talked to the same guy who tried to transfer my call, and hung me up every time. And these were calls to try and increase my connection speed, for which I am actually willing to pay them more money. My last conversation with this individual was him telling me not to call them, don't worry, they'll call me. Haven't heard a thing since. Bottom line: Gorge Networks are the only game in town besides the cable companies. If you don't want Charter or Dish, they're it. read more

If you need any sort of bandwidth or reliability at all, pay the extra money and get charter. I've dealt with bad ISPs before (DSL as well) but this is the most mediocre company I have ever seen. They need someone with professional experience to come in and fix whatever they are doing wrong. Whether it be new equipment, higher throughput lines, or just properly managing traffic they need to fix something or else they might just loose all of their customers. All I'm asking for is like 5 megabits per second and they give me 0.25 down 0.07 up and 300+ ping. What's the point of giving me anything if I can't even load a webpage. I'm posting this as a plea for the peoples jobs at Gorge net. You guys are single handedly pissing off every customer and when you guys go out of business, all of your hard working employees will loose their jobs. Whatever happened to competition. If you guys got your shit together, you could gain business support. And not just the small business you screw over now but the larger business that would fork out a lot of money for reliable, high throughput, low packet loss data transfer. Instead you lean back on your old and broken DSL back bone thinking "well we have all of these customers and they will never leave us". But that's not how you stay successful as a business. Eventually all of the older people who just use the internet to check their email or the pass report will be gone. If you couldn't tell, TV is on the way out. Steaming is the way of the future and all the big cable companies know it. Why do you think they have put so much effort into their new streaming apps and cable box technology hasn't evolved in the last 10 years. You guys need to be ahead of the curve. You will provide your own customer service, meaning an hour on the phone doing your own troubleshooting. Then they will have you come and pick up a new modem...still doesn't work. Then they will have you come and pick up a new router....still doesn't work. Then they will tell you they can send a tech, but it's going to cost you. Bottom line, it's terrible service and it's constantly on the blink. DONT DO IT!!! read more

I'll give two stars because general customer service was pretty good. Local staff that is prompt and courteous for the most part. I ordered this service for two locations; my business depended on their Internet service. At Home, to get 5 megabit service, I initially had to build a 30 foot tower in order to have an almost stable connection. That tower cost me approximately $400 to erect. This is because I was less than a block from the transmitter; the angle was extremely steep. It took several months for them to tilt a transmitter slightly down to resolve this issue. even after that, I could not stream video online whatsoever. I got the service at my business on Main Street. The connection was far from reliable. I had to close my computer repair shop on at least three occasions because the connection was down for whatever reasons and there was no estimate as to when the service would be back up. This company then, upon cancelation of their service due to the reliability issues, said I would not be charged an early disconnect fee. They then said, five days later, that they never said they would void those fees. The owner did offer to remove one fee and keep the other, but frankly if the service I paid for was not provided, they should have ponied up and taken responsibility for their errors instead of telling me two different things. I lost roughly $1,150 in parts and lost business dealing with this provider. They have the nerve to threaten collections actions against me and my business, when both connections were under my name, not my LLC business. If collection actions are taken against me or my business, the Washington State Attorney General's office will become involved. Consumers need to be informed about and protected from this kind of behavior. I only asked for reliable Internet service as advertised. The service was nothing like what was promised. read more

Gorge.net is a small business run by local people since 1994, many of them my friends. To be successful you need good people, good product and good process. My service is down every week for varying periods of time, I pay $648 a year. Last week their network was down for a couple days with a hardware problem and their people worked hard under difficult conditions to resolve it. Gorge.net's customer service and communication is the big issue. When you report outages after 5pm there is no person there to help just voice mail. I have reported outages after 5pm on Fridays with no communication from them until I phone them again Monday. To be fair the network doesn't stay down all weekend, and I have got a call back some of the time. That process is broken, they need to find a way to notify and update customers by phone the status of outages. So tech support, I have really appreciated my conversations with one individual who is patient pleasant and helpful. Sadly the last tech I spoke with in my opinion should not be dealing with the public at all and I question that persons overall knowlage. Please keep in mind what is is like for your customers to move their lives to a new location, commit to paying $54 each month, update all of their personal information and then constantly have network issues, having to call and report them and be doubtful the person on the other end of the line is going to be patient, knowledgable and helpful. read more

Gorge Networks doesn't deserve one star! My vacation home has had their internet service for a while... When we went there last weekend, we discovered we had no internet service. Since we hadn't been to the house since Feb, I presume we haven't had internet service since then. Called for customer support, no tech available. Left three message for help, no reply. Got back to town, called them, requested a Saturday service call, they don't provide service calls over the weekend... Amazing, no service calls on weekends??? Asked for refund, got hassled. I Fired them and changed over to HughesNet®. At least I can get service calls on Saturdays if needed and had excellent custom service agent set me up. read more

Gorge networks is pretty much all you have to choose from in certain parts of the gorge. As long as everything is working they are alright, but if you have problems its usually a pain to deal with them. They respond slowly, dont call back when they say they will, and generally seem pretty incompetent. They are lucky that they are the only choice we have for High speed internet. read more

The email service is terrible. I have had other email service providers over the years and I regret to say that none of the were as poor and unreliable as that provided by Gorge Networks. When I complained about the size limit for the email service, I was told that it really was for personal use only and not for business use. Yet I was not told this until I had a problem related to this issue. If I had realized it was suited only for personal use, I never would have signed up my business. What on earth were they thinking when I signed up on a business account that included email service? The email service is very unreliable and has crashed several times causing a great difficulty in my business. I have lost an unknown number of important emails because of the crash and non can be retrieved. The damage incurred is irreparable. The internet service is spotty as well and this makes it very difficult to run a business. I have lost a lot of money and business because of the inadequacies of the internet service and the email service. I really regret ever signing up with Gorge.net. I have continued with the service because of the problems caused in my business when I have to change an email address. read more

SLOW, SLOW, SLOW! Due to our location we were limited with provider options and suffered with Gorge Net for 7 long years. Using more than one one device at a time is impossible and even the one you can use is almost useless. We finally changed providers and are much happier. I'm not at all impressed with the fact we weren't credited for most of a month's worth of service, paid for, that we didn't use due to switching because we didn't call before they billed... That's just horrible customer service right there. I will say though, that almost every time I spoke with someone, they were kind. read more

For awhile, I have been considering a move to Hood River. However, internet is important to me for both business and personal reasons. I've used their "Hood River Sandbar" live webcam (http://my.gorge.net/live/sandbarcam) for probably six months, and it has a nice view. But, sadly, the date/time stamp on the webcam is now (as of 25 December 2013) still about a day plus 6 hours "off". To gauge their dependability and reliability and ability to fix 'problems' in a timely manner, I reported this to them on November 18. First, I contacted Support, and they responded that indeed it seemed to be six hours off: "It does appear to be off by about 6 hours. I notified our network administrators, so they can look into correcting it.". I replied that it was not only off by 6 hours, it was off by a full DAY. No response to that. After more than a week (Nov 27), I contacted "Sales" (sales people usually care more than tech people) with the comment "I certainly hope that something so basic as an accurate date/time stamp is not too difficult for you to correct" and they seemed genuinely concerned (I received a 'thank you' response and a 'has this been reported to..." CC). Another month has gone by, and still it seems too technically difficult to fix. Pretty scary. Sure, the date/time is probably "inside the webcam". Might take a couple of hours to fix it (drive time). If the webcam is your "public image" of excellence, that would seem to be pretty important. If you can't manage a webcam's date/time stamp, how can you manage the FAR more technical job of being an ISP? read more

If I could give them half a star I would! I was promised 7 MGS of speed but I got less than 3. They said they fixed it and didn't, they promised me a months free service for the inconvenience, but instead they billed me again! When I complained they said they would refund it to my card but instead they refunded it to my account which I had cancelled. They have the worst customer service I have ever seen of any business in my life! They said they didn't have anything in the notes about my free month, told me that I could cancel within the first three weeks but tried to charge me 90 something dollars for breach of contract until I threatened to call the better business bureau on them for unethical practices. My account still hasn't been cancelled after I over a month, I haven't received my refund and until I called (for the sixth time) they still didn't put it in a note to refund the money to my card! read more
