Based on the reviews here, I decided to use Gorgeous and Green to send flowers to a friend who recently moved to Oakland. I am so glad I did! My friend called me after receiving her flowers. She was in near tears at the beauty! She sent pictures and I could see how fresh and artistically arranged the bouquet is. I can't even identify all of the flowers in the bouquet, they are so unlike the every day flower shop blossoms. Well done Gorgeous and Green! I will definitely use you again when the occasion arises :-)

If I could give 10 stars I would. Pilar brought my wedding floral vision to life and it was everything I dreamed of and more. She was kind, excited, and willing to take the time to create the whimsical and wild wedding I was looking for.

Beyond pleased with the flowers. They were GORGEOUS! And the service was wonderful.

Superb flowers! Beautifully arranged, too! And we got a text right when they landed at our door, so no worries about wiltage in the sunny spring weather or any covid-19-y worries either. This is the exact bit of brightness and life that we needed to take the edge off of our shelter-in-place doldrums! Super highly recommend; will definitely order again. Thank you SO much!

I have a subscription with Pilar. Her taste is impeccable and each arrangement is honestly a masterpiece. The use of colors/shapes/textures is something I have not seen before. She is also incredibly kind. My idea of heaven is basically a room covered in her arrangements.

So overdue in writing this review, but was just looking at photos of my wedding flowers and felt compelled to pen a glowing review of Gorgeous & Green. My husband and I were married a few years ago, and I'll always have fond memories of our incredible floral arrangements. I contacted many florists before deciding on Gorgeous & Green, and am so glad I waited until I found 'the one.' Our flowers were one of the most memorable parts of our wedding, and seeing Pilar's creations come to life after telling her what I was looking for in an abstract way was very rewarding. All I had to do was send some sample photos (I wanted a kind of wild, messy, unkempt bouquet), some color suggestions (bright) and possible flower choices (I'm obsessed with ranunculi and poppies), and she took care of the the rest, and everything from my bouquet, the bridesmaid's bouquets, centerpieces, boutonnieres, etc, were more gorgeous than I anticipated. I actually cried when I saw my bridal bouquet the day of my wedding. My husband did not understand my flower fetish but wisely did not hinder my pursuit for the flawless florals of my dreams while we were wedding planning. Pilar was awesome with accommodating last minute requests and working with our coordinator, and when I was running around going crazy the week before our big day I had peace of mind that I didn't have to worry about the flowers. For non-wedding planning readers, feel free to get someone special in your life a bouquet or centerpiece from Gorgeous and Green. They'll cherish the blooms and love you forever!

I agree with the other ratings. The flowers we sent were incredibly beautiful. They were sent as a sympathy gift, and my friend loved them too. These were the most beautiful flowers I have ever sent.

I hired Gorgeous and Green for my wedding in May 2018. It was a pleasure to work with Pilar. I had a tight budget that came in right at her minimum for a full service wedding. Pilar did an amazing job keeping to my budget and creating a beautiful chuppah, bouquets, boutonnieres, and centerpieces. I found Gorgeous and Green through yelp when I was looking for a local florist. Pilar's commitment to sustainability (and organic blooms when possible) was also a reason I decided to go with Gorgeous and Green. When I met with Pilar many months before the wedding, I had a vague idea of what I liked (lots of greenery and lavender) but no solid "musts." She sent me a few sketches and pictures of previous work to paint a picture of what she could create. Those sketches along with her Instagram gave me really accurate idea of what my wedding day would look like. The day of the wedding went perfectly. Everyone had their flowers, the tables looked great, and the chuppah was gorgeous. The only thing that I wasn't 100% on was at the end of the night when I was collecting vases to return to Pilar, I realized she had not left any boxes so I had to build some from leftover cardboard at my venue. Gorgeous and Green gets a 99.99999/100. I HIGHLY recommend Pilar's work.

Pilar with presents! Fantastic and easy.

Gorgeous and Green is a beautiful flower shop with unique and creative gifts. It is a great place to find something special for anyone having a birthday or celebrating a special occasion. They have some terrific cards that are letterpressed with 100% wind energy on bamboo paper ... So Berkeley like! And they are really nice cards. A real favorite. A few months ago, when my in-laws were visiting, I stopped in here for 2 recycled glass water pitchers to leave in the guest room along with cute little glasses to match. We liked them so much, now we have them in our master bedroom for my husband and me. Very useful! Today, I stopped in and found a gorgeous orchid that is in bloom and it has a wonderful fragrance too. The owner of the store is wrapping it now for my dear friend's birthday gift. After happy hour at Sea Salt down the block, I will return and pick it up. Pictures to follow! When you need a sweet gift, give Gorgeous and Green an opportunity to make you look good to the ones you love. No doubt, your gift will be appreciated and admired by all.

Pilar was the number one choice as my florist for my wedding in August 2016! She was so nice and easy to work with. It was hard finding a florist since I live in New York and planning my wedding from afar. I saw Pilar's work on instagram and knew she was it. I gave her the color scheme, no specific flowers, some direction, and let her do her thing. Man, she was amazing! I wanted to cry when she showed up with the bouquet! It was SO beautiful, more beautiful than anything I could have imagined. She made the bridal bouquets, boutonnieres, trio bud vases for the centerpieces, sweetheart table centerpiece, small flower arrangements for the aisle chairs during the ceremony, and 2 large flower arrangements for the ceremony. She worked with my coordinator on reusing the ceremony flowers for the reception and helped with arranging everything. I didn't meet Pilar in person until the wedding day since everything was through e-mail, but I had total faith in her. Her flower selection matched my bridesmaid's dresses perfectly. I didn't even mention what color dresses they were wearing! My guests and even the vendors were so impressed by her work and asked for her information. I recommend her without any hesitation!

I got my wedding bouquet made here and they did such a marvelous job! Very easy to work with and the staff was excited about the project and made it feel special. The bouquet was lush and perfect and captured everything I wanted with lace and garden roses, hydrangeas, and dahlias. I loved holding it that day and it turned so well in pictures!

It feels a bit weird leaving a review while I'm still enrolled in the program, but, when I saw…read morethere was only 4 reviews, and knowing that Apparel Arts oriented towards online education due to COVID (temporary or permanently, I'm unsure), I figured there might be people who have not heard of the program who are searching online for sewing classes, and might do their research on Yelp. I started taking classes almost a year ago with no experience - I seriously had hemmed a few rips, sewed a few seams, and that was about it. In that year, I have become more confident in my patternmaking abilities, and, have started to finally feel comfortable with my sewing skills. I have made around 20-30 projects in muslin, completing the projects from body measurement to final products. Over the next few weeks, I'm hoping to begin transferring some of these patterns to fashion pieces that are actually wearable - that's something, if you asked me a year ago, I would not believe. A lot of it is a testament to the quality education and instruction, but, as they will tell you in orientation, there is a sufficient amount of homework you have to be serious about completing, because like any skill, the more practice you have, the better. Still, even in some of my more obvious mistakes/beginner questions ("What is a dart?", "Why can't I make patterns in pen if I'm extra careful?") to now some of my more slightly more practiced questions ("How do I use bias tape?"), Suzi and Allison have always answered my questions with both empathy and detail. The shift to online education probably isn't the most natural for fashion/sewing/patternmaking, however, the instructors have committed to an in-home studio that allows these classes to go on relatively without a hitch (and even if there is one, they are always very quick to address it!). The curriculum has shifted from at your own pace to more of a linear pedagogy, but I don't mind, as sometimes I would find myself a bit stuck on wanting to perfect a skill when there would be plenty of opportunities later on. Usually most classes are a combination of lecture, some patternmaking (if it's a patternmaking class), and a sewing demo. Videos are made available after the class, which, for someone who needs to hear something 2 or 3 times. So yeah, I'm just very grateful I've had the work/classes at Apparel Arts to keep me busy through this hellacious year. It's given me joy to build a skill from the ground up, and, a skill that I didn't think would even come naturally to me. If you are doing research on taking a sewing class, I can only say good things about my experience here.

After much research on what design and sewing program to enroll in, I chose Apparel Arts because it seemed to be setup more flexibly than a college environment. And it is. The teaching spaces are well appointed. You can often drop in and just work here. It feels professional. The teachers are outstanding-knowledgeable, fun, and work hard at keeping us all going, given we are at different levels and places in the program. I love how engaged the founder/owner, Suzi, is. She's very involved, gets to know us, and still teaches and helps us out. This says a lot to me. And the way all the staff and students celebrate one another's creations and successes inspires such a sense of community. Despite the traffic I run into with the commute, I absolutely love coming and am usually invigorated and inspired when I leave. I cannot recommend Apparel Arts more highly.

From my understanding, Oakland School for the Arts (OSA) is a nonprofit public charter school. They have a immersive arts program, and they serve hundreds of kids tuition-free! You can easily tell the student's improvement from earlier in the school year to the end of the year, and from the junior high students to senior high students. By the time they are in high school, their stage presence and performances are even better. It's a beautiful thing! Best high school vocal performances I've seen. I don't know all the ins and outs of this school, but from my standpoint, OSA is a great school especially for kids in the local Oakland area. The faculty and staff that I've seen are dedicated, and they truly care about the kids' education and growth. One teacher even attended my niece's 18th birthday party and spoke at the event. That says a lot about the school and the faculty/staff at OSA.

The adult drop in class packages work best for me and I've been consistently attending Sam (primarily silks and lyra) and Megan's (trapeze) classes. I called the front desk to make my initial purchase because there were so many options, I couldn't decide what I wanted based on my schedule. Fortunately, Janelle (front desk) was very patient and helpful, and I ended up getting the 10 class pack. When I got there, it was a bit intimidating because I was more used to smaller studios, but everyone here was so nice. Janell also made sure to check on me to see if I was doing ok when I took my first class. The other students and teachers were very welcoming and supportive to check out other classes, which is how I ended up with taking two classes back to back at-least once a week instead of just one class. In regards to the teachers, "great" would be such an understatement. I love Sam's class because even though it's primarily silks, they'll put one other apparatus (hoop mainly, and recently flying pole!) for us to try out-so it's more than just one apparatus in this one class. I also really like that they'll give us challenging *enough* moves because it's so satisfying to execute steps after struggling so much for it. I also love Megan's trapeze class because she's very flexible with our experiences. This pace is great for me because I don't have alot of experience with trapeze and the ropes on it feel so different from silks! Nikki and Zi have substituted for their classes and they're both amazing as well. I'd highly recommend taking classes here. It's a fun and challenging workout compared to a regular gym...I also love that it's spacious too!
