I recommend if you use this law firm, to be sure to get a FIRM QUOTE…read more I got a quote of $25 per document (2 Wills and 2 Power of Attorneys) to sign as (Commissioner for Oaths). I prepared the four documents (my wife's and mine) based on considerable research and great attention to wording and I supplied a copy of my Will and Power of Attorney (POA) to Mr. Randy Simpson (the lawyer at the firm). I asked if he could do a cursory review of the two documents and advise of any critical issues and to specifically look at the samples of Affidavits of Execution as to which one he preferred to use. The sample affidavits provided were taken from examples that other law firms used so I assumed they were correct in their wording. I advised that after his review, I would make any necessary changes to the documents, transfer the changes to my wife's Will and POA and supply all documents for signing. At the time I delivered my Will and POA for Mr. Simpson's review, there was no mention that there could be any additional charges applied other than the $100 I was quoted. If it was known that there could be additional charges applied, I should have been given the courtesy of knowing that and an approximate amount so I could decide if I wanted continue with this law firm's service. A week later, Mr. Simpson supplied me with his feedback. He filled in dates, which I was going to do myself when I knew the date we were to sign. He made a few minor changes to wording in two paragraphs in the POA, which I transferred to the POA for consistency. He also supplied an updated Affidavit of Execution for the Will, which I thought should have been included for the signing, anyways. In fact, the wording in the revised Affidavit was not much different than the samples I provided. After the signing of all four documents with witnesses (I was told to supply), I was handed a $420 invoice. This was a huge surprise to me considering the fact that I wrote more than 98% of the documents and supplied all documents for signing. Essentially, the value I received for an additional $300 were some minor wording changes in two paragraphs. When I inquired about standard fees for Wills and Estate at the front desk when paying the invoice, the receptionist told me that Mr. Simpson typically charged $800 to complete an husband and wife Will package (which also included a Personal Directive). The $420.00 invoice I received, hardly seems fair and certainly not reasonable (50% of the value) considering the minimal work Mr. Simpson did to my Will package (Note: my personal directive was not included). I believe in getting value for the money one pays for a service. I'm not opposed to paying for Mr. Simpson's time in reviewing documents, but I strongly believe he could have used better discretion in balancing the charges relative to what he typically charges for a complete Will package. In my opinion, the money I paid for his services definitely does not come close to the value I received! Dave Coish

I hired Doniger to prepare an affidavit and to present this affidavit in court. It took 6…read moreunbelievably stressful weeks to finally get to the point where my matter could be heard in court. These delays occurred because Doniger was unable to ascertain exactly what court she needed to present my affidavit (i.e. Provincial Court or Queen's Bench and jurisdictions issues Edmonton Court or Medicine Hat Court). Doniger was also unable to acquire previous parenting orders that were necessary to complete the affidavit. Doniger also hired a very expensive agent to represent her without telling me first. I didn't give her my consent to do this but she did so anyway. Now she is expecting me to pay for this agent's service. Both the agent and the judge were unclear of exactly what the affidavit was asking for. I was seeking a chasing order to have my children returned from Quebec back to Alberta and nowhere in her affidavit did it mention this. Furthermore, the affidavit was filled with mistakes and it was incomplete as key parenting orders were missing. To make matters worse, she attached a second affidavit to the original on the behalf of my mother. The agent and the judge were both confused why she would include an additional affidavit on the behalf of my mother - this was redundant and it only made things more complicated. Doniger also instructed me and my mother to make the costly and lengthy trip (15 hours return and 1 night in a hotel room) to Medicine Hat so that we could appear in court in person. The agent she hired was confused why we were in Medicine Hat in the first place as he explained to us appearing here in person was completely unnecessary. While my matter was being presented in court I didn't have to comment on anything nor did they need my signature. The court was unable to use the affidavit created by Doniger because it was confusing, contained mistakes, and incomplete and the agent had no choice but to ask the judge to put the matter over to a later date. I paid Doniger $1,500.00 and 6-weeks later she accomplished absolutely nothing for me. Upon my return from my unnecessary road trip from Medicine Hat, Doniger actually had the audacity to ask me for an additional $2,000.00 to revise her original affidavit so she could present it in court. This is when I terminated her services. She also tried to pass the blame on to me by saying that I should have known what courtroom my matter should have been presented in and by saying that it was my responsibility to produce the key documents necessary to complete my affidavit. In a chasing order time is essential; 6-weeks later, I'm no closer to having my matter heard in court compared to the first day I contacted Doniger. My children are now well established in Quebec and the likelihood of having a judge order them back to Alberta are now slim to none. I REGRET HIRING DONIGER AND I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND HER.
