I recommend if you use this law firm, to be sure to get a FIRM QUOTE…read more I got a quote of $25 per document (2 Wills and 2 Power of Attorneys) to sign as (Commissioner for Oaths). I prepared the four documents (my wife's and mine) based on considerable research and great attention to wording and I supplied a copy of my Will and Power of Attorney (POA) to Mr. Randy Simpson (the lawyer at the firm). I asked if he could do a cursory review of the two documents and advise of any critical issues and to specifically look at the samples of Affidavits of Execution as to which one he preferred to use. The sample affidavits provided were taken from examples that other law firms used so I assumed they were correct in their wording. I advised that after his review, I would make any necessary changes to the documents, transfer the changes to my wife's Will and POA and supply all documents for signing. At the time I delivered my Will and POA for Mr. Simpson's review, there was no mention that there could be any additional charges applied other than the $100 I was quoted. If it was known that there could be additional charges applied, I should have been given the courtesy of knowing that and an approximate amount so I could decide if I wanted continue with this law firm's service. A week later, Mr. Simpson supplied me with his feedback. He filled in dates, which I was going to do myself when I knew the date we were to sign. He made a few minor changes to wording in two paragraphs in the POA, which I transferred to the POA for consistency. He also supplied an updated Affidavit of Execution for the Will, which I thought should have been included for the signing, anyways. In fact, the wording in the revised Affidavit was not much different than the samples I provided. After the signing of all four documents with witnesses (I was told to supply), I was handed a $420 invoice. This was a huge surprise to me considering the fact that I wrote more than 98% of the documents and supplied all documents for signing. Essentially, the value I received for an additional $300 were some minor wording changes in two paragraphs. When I inquired about standard fees for Wills and Estate at the front desk when paying the invoice, the receptionist told me that Mr. Simpson typically charged $800 to complete an husband and wife Will package (which also included a Personal Directive). The $420.00 invoice I received, hardly seems fair and certainly not reasonable (50% of the value) considering the minimal work Mr. Simpson did to my Will package (Note: my personal directive was not included). I believe in getting value for the money one pays for a service. I'm not opposed to paying for Mr. Simpson's time in reviewing documents, but I strongly believe he could have used better discretion in balancing the charges relative to what he typically charges for a complete Will package. In my opinion, the money I paid for his services definitely does not come close to the value I received! Dave Coish

First off, Mr. Semeniuk is NOT a lawyer. He is a traffic ticket agent, which is essentially…read moreunregulated by the Alberta Government. Hiring Randy was a huge mistake, as he was rude, condescending, and unhelpful. What was interesting, is the few occasions I emailed him in regards to my case over 6 months from when I hired him, his reply to any of my online questions/concerns would always be "call me." My gut feeling, it;s easier to treat clients like garbage on cell where it is difficult and legally questionable to record the conversation as opposed to proof in emails. Randy claimed that my case received a favourable outcome, yet I have heard otherwise by the Alberta traffic court by phone, and requested a copy of the judgement of my case. Randy has failed to do this, and insists that the courts "always make these mistakes" and to "go to the Courtroom myself" to see. The problem with this, is Randy knew full well that I relocated to another province to care for a sick relative before he delayed my case by 1/2 a year. Randy, it is YOUR responsibility to correct any discrepancies with the official judgement. You are supposed to represent the best interests of your clients, and you failed to do so. Hiring you was the biggest mistake I ever made. $1100 down the drain.
