Year three, this year, we were once again impressed by the event. Some designs you love, some not so much. The museum, however, has stepped up their food offerings and specialty cocktails and therefore created a more cohesive vibe. They do seem to have multiplied their security staff by about 4X during the show and the guards were a little bit intrusive, but I get it. And yes, I took a zillion pictures every year, but they are very specific to the event and didn't represent the normal vibe, so I'm not sharing them all here.

We also love the butterfly room (so many live butterflies!) and the planetarium dome theater, which shows various educational films. They ask that you don't have food and drinks while touring around (understandable), but they have a huge cafe/dining area on the ground level. It's great because you can bring your own packed lunch and snacks, or purchase from their various offerings. Underground parking, easy check-in, and friendly staff, too!

Year after year, a team of volunteers help staff transform the Pabst Mansion into this whimsical exhibition adding to the MKE beer baron's living experience. Times entry and same day tickets are available in advance or at the door, though "at the door" occurs at street level in an adjacent building. A very small free parking lot is up the hill onsite next to the mansion but additional free parking is available across the street and is labeled with signage. If you haven't had the chance to visit during the holiday season, I do recommend it as something different to do during the colder months!

We finally made it this last weekend with some friends. The collection is pretty impressive, from sports, pop culture, tv shows, and more. There's a $5 fee which is fair. They have scavenger hunts for kids and you can try and find 'Waldo' for a small prize. Overall, we enjoyed the experience of checking out many different bobble heads. Give it a try!

I had never heard of it. My husband and I immediately decided a date day was in order. Located above a Colectivo location that I've been to on multiple occasions (how I never noticed what was upstairs, I cannot fathom---too focused on caffeination, maybe?), this little museum offers a quirky, reasonably priced afternoon. We walked in, paid, and were escorted to some benches where the museum docent gave us a quick overview and played a video that offered a more detailed overview. After that, we were able to wander the museum at our leisure. They have bobbleheads of all sorts from sports to pop culture. Over 10,000, actually. I enjoyed the pop culture side of things the most. Golden Girls bobbleheads? Wednesday Addams? Beetlejuice? Yes, yes, and yes. Patrons are also able to play a fun little game of Where's Waldo during their visit. We found him and got some fun little prizes. Where is Waldo?!? You'll have to find him for yourself--I'll never tell. Get to it!

It isn't officially part of the standard tour just yet, but we happened to be before a special private tour so they let us check it out too. I would recommend this to anyone who is even mildly interested. The gift shop closes at 3, so be sure to grab any goodies before the tour if you are taking the 2pm.

There are a bunch of previews of upcoming documentaries before the main feature - thankfully these previews are far less obnoxious those that blast your senses at your suburban multiplex. Parking near the museum is always a challenge, so factor that in when planning your trip to this location. Pro-tip: Purchasing movie tickets at this IMAX scores you a discount on your admission to the adjoining Milwaukee Public Museum.

As others may have mentioned, the museum was founded in the 1980s by a man named James Cameron, a Wisconsin native who narrowly survived a lynching attempt in his youth. He served as a modern day griot (storyteller, oral historian) for many years at this location before his passing. There's a lot of history and information packed in here, not just about the slave trade to the Americas but also about the history of racial equality in the city of Milwaukee and how things stand today. I was unaware that just up the road in the 53206 zip code (Amani neighborhood and others), there is the #1 highest incarceration rate among Black Americans. It's definitely worth a look and I'm sure they'd appreciate it if you got something from the gift shop at the end, as well.
