This is a great hole in the wall bar. The floors change height every floor. The higher you go, the lower the ceiling. There are some rooms though that it is very dimly lit. It's great if you want some intimate setting. You can order your drinks directly at the bar and this place is cash only. read more

For me, Goupil Le Fol is a must see place in Brussels. Why? Because it's unique. When friends from abroad come visit me, I always take them there and they are always bewildered by the place. More than one of my mates told me that it looks like an illegal underground opium-smoking cellar and that pretty much sums up the atmosphere (I mean it as a compliment). The key is the sort-of-random-but-not-really furniture with old lamps, a bike, some old paintings, even a drum set and vinyls, vinyls, vinyls everywhere. The music is old Belgian and French composers like Jacques Brel, Gilbert Bécaud, Édith Piaf and it just fits so well. They only serve a small selection drinks. The trademark beverage is a sort of sciropy wine flavoured with coffee, hazelnut or cherry. A girly drink you may say, but it goes down so well. I totally recommend this place and no wonder it has such good reviews. read more

The Belgian equivalent of a French dive wine bar - think old couches and kitsch, but all with tons of charm. La Mome playing in the background adds to the atmosphere. This is why I love Brussels: weird, wonderful little holes-in-the-wall with more charm than a Parisian call-girl :) This pokey little bar used to be a brothel, and you can totally see it when you go inside. Antique chairs and velours, tiny romantic cubby-holes, and a mish-mash collection of stained glass lamps and questionable taxidermy adorn the two (small) floors. Prices are reasonable for the centre of town, and it is quickly becoming "that" place I take friends from out of town for a real taste of Brussels ambiance. read more

What a wonderfully unique cafe, that I am rather at a loss to describe if I am honest. I suppose it looks quite romantic, all dimly lit with candles on the tables. Sofas upstairs lend themselves to a group of friends (or indeed later in the evening a group of couples who want to make out apparently). Further description of the inner decoration is best left to a more skilled wordsmith (or perhaps a photo). No food is served and a request for a beer yielded a delicious raspberry flavoured concoction that bore little relation to what I had actually requested. This probably one of my favorite bars in the world. Maybe because I used to go there in HS so it has sentimental value ... either way, I love it. I can get a little smokey, but the decor has a beautiful vintage elegance and the music is always soothing. Very late in the night/early in the morning on our first night, we were looking for one more awesome place to go have some drinks. Yelp led us here. Once we found the place, we weren't even sure it was open. But Nava tried the door, and we walked in. The owner greeted us warmly and said that he was looking for millionaires, were we millionaires? I don't know, but we found a seat. First, the decor is AMAZING. It's a mish-mash of crazy stuff everywhere. The alcove we sat in had people that carved their names and whatever else they wanted everywhere. I was really irritated I left my camera in the hotel that night, because I wanted to photograph EVERYTHING. There were rooms upstairs as well with couches and more crazy stuff everywhere. We all went off exploring to check it all out. They don't do many beers (if any, it was unclear), but they do a variety of fruit wines and cognacs. I had a drink called "violet" and that's exactly what it tasted like. I also had some hazelnut wine. Delish! There was only fantastic (and crazy) French music playing. I had to use Soundhound to find a few of them because I loved them so much. I imagine this place will be one of those places that you either love or you hate. If you like an eclectic place full of a mish-mash of decorations, with French music playing loudly, this is for you. It's worth a stop by even if it isn't. I think it's someplace everyone in Brussels should see at least once. It also wasn't incredibly busy at 3 am on a Friday night. Maybe they aren't that busy, or maybe it was just because it was cold outside. But awesome places without a lot of people are always great in my book! read more

The most obscure bar I have ever been too. Dive bar meets Brussels. Tons of add photos on the wall, and array of strange lamps, a mush mosh of old sofas. There are many small rooms on multiple floors and they all look different. With all the chaos there is a charm to this bar. Come experience it for yourself! read more

When we were looking for a bar to visit after Museum Night Fever, one of our friends mentioned this bar "that used to be a brothel." Enough said, it sounded cool to us! He couldn't remember the name but did know exactly where it was located, close to Grand Place, a couple streets behind. We entered and could already tell it was super cool. Unfortunately (for us!) this place was so packed that there wasn't seating for 4! We still took a small tour of the place to see the former rooms, etc. The decor is all Belgian and looks like a pack rat decorated (in a good way though) as it's filled with pictures, knick-knacks, etc. Looking forward to going back again and actually having a drink to write a real review then ;) read more

This place is very interesting and my second favorite bar. It is a house with vintage decoration so you go from one room to another one through small corridors and stairs and see very old photos on the walls and many all lamps. You can listen the classics in french music and sometimes everyone start singing at once... magic. read more

I had high expectations for this place. But the reality was very disappointing. When I walked in to meet my friends who were leaving town I ordered a coffee but the waiter told me they didn't have hot drinks. When I asked for a soda she told me they didn't have soda. When I asked for a menu she got pissed and told me they didn't have menus. I finally asked her what non alcoholic drinks she had and she was so annoyed and mumbled the options. I would give zero stars if I could. Goupil le Fol has the RUDEST servers I have ever encountered. As soon as my two friends and I walked in, the bartender was immediately snobby for no reason. She rolled her eyes at us and patronized us when we asked for drink recommendations. We each ordered her recommendation and they allowed us upstairs to sit down. Not 10 minutes later, she followed us upstairs, chastised us for not ordering more drinks, and told us to leave. My friends and I were merely having a quiet conversation amongst ourselves, and in no way exhibited any behavior that would be cause for us to get kicked out. In addition to the rude treatment we received, the drinks were the worst I've tasted. I'm usually a fan of fruity drinks; however, this drink tasted like straight sugar. The only good thing about Goupil le Fol was the decor. So, unless you're willing to sacrifice being even remotely decently treated and good drinks, I would 10/10 not recommend going to Goupil le Fol. read more
