An unstructured environment where you sit your child down and let them learn on their own didn't make sense. To us, it was like giving your child a pen and paper. Yes, in an unstructured environment it may let them draw random squiggles and lines but without the proper knowledge to write letters, to form worlds, and then eventually form sentences, it didn't give our children the opportunity to open up a higher order of learning that could occur. That's why we felt a teacher with a clear lesson, goals and outcomes were important for our kids. This is what makes Miss Flora different: she focuses on the basics that makes your child successful and excel in the future. She focuses on making sure your child can draw lines that are straight, the shapes they cut are orderly, the letters and numbers are memorized. From this, she teaches vocabulary, associations, math, patterns and everyday skills that they can use for the basis of their knowledge in the future. To us, she provides a solid, if not advanced, foundation for children when they enroll in elementary school. We have both of our kids in her day care and they have advanced tremendously since they enrolled. If it were not for us moving out of the region, we would have kept our youngest there until she graduated to first grade.
