The tapas were very good. We enjoyed the octopus particularly. Sangria was too sweet. The food came quickly which was nice however the issue at Goya was the server not being so friendly. My wife asked how many lamb medallions came in an order only to demeaned with the servers explanation. My wife is a very successful chef and the server had his machismo working in full swing. Again, I think pimlico being off the beaten path doesn't prefer American tourists. In this case the server was talking to his coworkers about us being Americanos and being from Miami where Spanish is our second language I could tell he was not speaking of us favorably. It's a a shame that some of the English people lack hospitality and gratitude when American families are patronizing their establishment. read more

So good we just had to return! We stayed at an Air B and B near Goya and only decided to go there because it was a convenient location and we needed something easy. It was hot, in August, and our kids hate cigarette smoke so we were pleased to find their downstairs space that was nice and cool with AC!! (much welcomed after traveling in the stuffy underground). We decided to order several small plates and share. We are a family of four and seven plates was plenty. Our favorites were the calamari, the meatballs and the best was the vegetarian paella. The paella takes some time to cook but it is worth the wait! We also enjoyed a pitcher of red sangria. Our kids (10 and 15) both loved the food too. We were so pleased at our first visit, that we returned a second time. Very good, go check it out! read more

We have been wanting to try Goya for a while, it is in our neighborhood and always looks inviting. Plus we heard the Paella was good. So a few Fridays ago we stopped in and opted to sit indoors, it was a nice night but a bit windy. We started with the manchego cheese platter which was delicious and beautifully presented and had a bit of what tasted like a ginger jelly served along side. The croquettes weren't what we expected, after living in Miami for a year we have tried tons of delicious croquettes, these were lacking in ham and a bit mushy. Plus the sauce was very heavy with mayo. We also had the garlic cheese bread, which in light of the manchego dish was a bit too much cheese. if I go back I will try the veggie tapas like the mushrooms or fried chili peppers (both looked great on the table next to us!). For the mains we were going to split the paella, but my husband eats a lot so I had the crab and avocado salad on the side. The paella was amazing...I wish I had ordered another dish for myself! Its only enough to share if you have filled up on tapas (or aren't that hungry). The crab and avocado was good...but the crab was swimming in a mayo based pink sauce and not much to my liking. The crab alone would have been great with a hint of mayo...but this was really thick and heavy. We didn't stay for desert because we were quite full. I liked this place and will probably go back, but I will stick to more traditional tapas and avoid the fried or saucy ones. read more

An accessible and cozy restaurant for Pimlico residents. The restaurant spans across two floors. Although it wasn't particularly well-decorated or anything, it was relatively spacious and had a certain local feel to it. What I liked the most was its generous portions. By definition, tapas are small dishes, and given that London is pricey, I expected tiny dishes that don't come close to satisfying my appetite. However, surprisingly, the portions were so generous that in the end, we had to get the leftovers packed. All the dishes were solid. The paella was more akin to the flavorful Madrid version that I had than the Barcelona version; the octopus and prawn tapas were both fresh. The salad was surprisingly refreshing as well. The only thing that didn't meet my mark were the meatballs, but then again, it might have been because of the overpowering flavors of the other dishes. Finally, for 5.30 pounds, our respective glasses of wine were both good and plentiful. While not the best nor the fanciest, Goya meets the mark as a solid local place to satiate an appetite for Spanish tapas. read more

I'm a huge fan of Paella; it's a dish that has all the goodness of mother earth, combined with the crispy delicious seafood and the base of the dish, a comforting bed of long grain rice with saffron. Yum! In my search for this Spanish staple in my neighborhood I found Goya. They serve good quality Spanish staples and I have to say I was very pleased with what I ate! The paella they serve is a dish to share with friends with a bottle of wine. Be sure to have some tapas as starters, my favorite tapa is, jamon serrano with Spanish manchego, its a feast for the senses. Prices are relatively cheap, when you consider the plate of paella can be shared and it costs £12.95. Good deal and good food. read more

This place is simply awful. Tapas food is not difficult to cook (at least to an ok standard) but this place really makes a mess of it. The places looks good from the outside, but the food is a big let down. We sat outside on a lovely summer's evening and it was quite pleasent. The service was ok and we enjoyed drinking beer in the sun. However the food was terrible! Most dishes came swimming in oil and were either bland or horrendously fatty. I wouldn't bother going to this place. It's a nice location and has a nice ambience, but it stops there. The food was awful and I'm sure there are planty of Tapa's place that cook much better stuff than this. read more

If you look through the window at street level, you'll see a small bar, but downstairs in the basement is a much more spacious but cosy restaurant. We had tapas, which was delicious. A recent tapas lunch was competent, but not outstanding. Reasonably long tapas menu, with mostly the old standards meatballs in tomato sauce, chicken and saffron rice, manchego and quince, tortilla, bean casserole, calamares in batter. The house dry sherry (manzanilla) was excellent. Lunch for four with dessert and coffee was £77 a fair price. Service was good. Atmosphere was fine, with a nice traditional bar. Outside seating available. I won't be rushing back, but then again, if you are peckish in this area, you could do worse. read more

I had a dinner here once and drinks at another point. This place has good reviews and is usually busy. So I decided to give it a go. The staff was friendly but I wouldn't say the service was noteworthy. The vibe is ok. I.would suggest sitting outside or on the ground-floor inside. the basement is depressing and I didn't enjoy it there one bit. we ordered various tapas so I did have a selection of food. I wasn't impressed by any of the dishes. the food was either not tasty or just ok. I also went fir drinks here and had sangria. I sat at the bar. the sangria was tasty. Fair to good. The menu items are traditional Spanish items from throughout Spain. The wine list was Spanish but unoriginal and limited - no gems. The food was good and well prepared (especially the jamón y melón and the croquetas) except for the albóndigas which were okay, but tasted like Italian meatballs. Aside from the meatballs, the dishes were like those we've enjoyed in Spain. We'd return to try other items. read more

A great spanish find! I visited this restaurant twice in a week while staying at Dolphin Square apartments ( 2 mins walk away!) The first time I had lunch and we sat upstairs in the main bar and had some light tapas and the food was very tasty - great service and very friendly staff. Teh next time was for dinner and we were led downstairs ( didn't realise it was there the first time!) to their restaurant which was really busy - great atmosphere. As the tapas were so good the first time around and we were three - we just deicded to get 6 - 7 tapas and a nice bottle of rioja. Perfect! Great value too Woudl recommend! read more

A perfectly passable, if unremarkable tapas bar in a good location. The menu is standard fare, and while nothing really stands out, nothing was disappointing either. Portions are surprisingly generous in some dishes - the garlic/cheese/olive bread and chorizon in wine were standouts - and the whole thing feels rather atmospheric. Sadly, the service wasn't quite up to snuff - we found ourselves waiting awhile for tables and to be served. There's not a huge amount of competition round this neck of the woods, but even if there were Goya would still stand out for it's laid back atmosphere, delicious food and value for money. The space is small, and dominated by the high top bar where you can also eat, but there are also a half dozen or so tables for 2 or 4 as well. Service is efficient without being over the top and seems to stay on top of things even when it's busy. However it's the food that really shines here. Kidneys with sherry were delicious and meltingly soft as were the livers and chorizo - no rubbery little bullets here. Bean casserole and a green salad with asparagus, olives & artichokes were also sure fire winners, though the prawns with garlic were unexceptional. One thing to bear in mind is that portions here are much bigger than a traditional tapas - more like a large starter or in some cases a small main, so unless you're feeling particularly greedy 2, or at most 3 tapas per person will more than suffice. Strongly recommended, but not quite 5 stars yet - the prawns were a little disappointing and the house Rioja was fine but unexceptional. read more

The best ambiance is on the ground floor, definitely avoid dining in the basement area of the restaurant as it completely lacks character as another review mentioned (and I do agree about the odd smell). The staff is competent and efficient but other than that I can't really say that there is much to recommend to the place. The food was average at best. I don't review many restaurants but felt compelled to share of my great experience. My family and I went there for dinner and sat downstairs with low expectations. Mohammad was our waiter and did a great job. Every dish was so delicious and the wine selection was very good - very nice pairings for the food we were served. We went back twice in the week we were visiting London and every time lived up to the high bar that was set. Desserts were awesome, especially the crepe brûlée and chocolate mousse. And we tried garlic cheese bread at every restaurant we went to in London and this restaurant provided the best in the city. Very great experience. read more

We had a group of 7 and we all ordered different tapas and 2 orders of Paella to share. Our group favorites were the Paella, spanish ham and potato stew, but everything else was very tasty. For London the prices are reasonable, the staff friendly and service good. In fact, when we left the restaurant at 10pm on Thursday, it was full up! The only recommendation I have is not to order all your tapas plates at once (which we did on another visit), they will bring them all at once and the tables are small and it can make you feel rushed. We order 7 plates, enjoyed them, then ordered the Paella (takes 30 minutes) and then ordered another 7 plates and this worked out well. The house wines are good too. read more

After several visits to this restaurant, I was pretty excited to take my friend out to get some tapas for my birthday dinner. After we arrived at 21:15, we immediately got the menu and ordered a few tapas as a starter and one main dish to share. Given the waiter was not fluent in English, I repeated the order at least 3 times to make sure he had written down what we had asked for. While we enjoyed our Sangria, we started to become rather hungry when the starters did not seem to come to our table (bread should be relatively easy to serve)... When 20-25 min. passed by, I waved at the waiter, who noticed I was asking for service, but who then turned around and quickly entered something in his computer screen (i.e. probably forgot to enter our order for the kitchen to prepare). Then, when 45 min. past by, finally some of the tapas come out, incl. Patatas Bravas that we specifically did not order. When I pointed this out to the waiter, he started an arugement and claimed I had ordered it. Given we were waiting for so long, I told him to cancel the main dish as we did not have enough time to wait another 30 min. Then, he started to verbally harrass us, made noises, shaked his head and became rather aggressive as I refused to pay for anything else that was not on our table AN HOUR after our arrival. I tried to explain I had visited many times to which he said in broken English "If you had visited many times, you would know it takes a long time because we prefer qualilty". Overall, you understand where I am gettin at, I WILL NEVER VISIT THIS RUDE AND RIDICULOUS TAPAS PLACE AGAIN AND WOULD RECOMMEND TO AVOID AT ALL TIMES. Final point; although this middle-aged man claimed WE provided the wrong order, our tables left and right received tapas they did not order as well and asked about timing as they started to become frustrated about waiting, so I guess it is a common issue. read more

The place seemed fine when we saw it online and we decided to make reservation before coming in but to our surprise they chose not to honor it. We were finally rushed into the basement which lacked the character what one would say a spanish restaurant to have and to top it up had funny smell. We thought the food might compromise for the distaste experienced so far, but there was no silver lining to the cloud. We found this restaurant almost by accident during our latest trip to London. Don't let its unprepossessing appearance fool you: it's AMAZING. It serves tapas, as well as entrées. We stopped in for some tapas in the afternoon: grilled lamb chops, a stuffed eggplant, potatoes with aioli, a delicious white bean casserole with sliced sausage, meatballs in red sauce, all washed down with a large glass of red Spanish wine. Yum! As if that weren't enough, for dessert we had the chocolate mousse (thick, yet light and decadent) and the almond tort - perfect! We were sorry that we weren't staying longer in London - this is definitely on our list of repeats the next time we go for a visit. read more

Had a great expectations regarding this restaurant especially as claim serving a basque cuisine. The food was below average. Rice with chicken (sth like paella) cold, not tasty at all, greasy. "Las croquetas" not tasty at all and unfortunately the calamaries as well couldn't even chew them! We only managed to eat some of those dishes thanks to the thick garlic/mayo salsa added to some of ordered dishes. The deserts were really tasty and the service quite qood and fast. If ever come back there would be for a glass of whine and a dessert. read more
