This place is fantastic all the way around. We had reservations for 9:15 but showed up about 30 minutes early. They accommodated us temporarily in a table until ours on the second floor became available. We were treated with such care by Isidro , not sure if he was the sommelier, Maitre'd or owner, but such a knowledgeable and caring soul. The food was incredible. We had a goat cheese encrusted with nuts and a beef carpaccio that were to die for. I had the tuna steak, lightly seared. One of my friends had the pork and two had the veal chop. About Thyme is a cute little neighbourhood restaurant with good food and very attentive service. From the moment we entered, the staff were keen to ensure we had everything we needed. The menu was quite varied (although black pudding seemed to be a recurring feature). To start with, I had the courgette flowers encased in a beetroot tempura and filled with buffalo mozzarella. Sounds amazing, looks amazing, tastes...not so much. It was nice, but I found it a little bland. On the flip side, my duck breast main was delish. Perfectly cooked and well balanced with the accompaniments (onion and potato rosti, braised red cabbage and red currant jus). To finish we shared the dark chocolate fondant, which was very nice but not overly exciting. I did find it to be a little on the expensive side (the bill came to £50 a head), particularly given the portion sizes. However, it had a decent atmosphere, good service and nice food so I don't think that will stop me from giving it a second go if I'm in the neighbourhood. read more

Amazing little restaurant, just a stones-throw away from Victoria Station. The restaurant looks just as cute and cozy on the inside as it does on the outside. The tables are divided across two, not too big, floors. I've had the pleasure to dine here several times and every time was as good as the other. Amazingly friendly and professional staff who really do know about the stuff they serve, both food and drinks. A little aperitif was on the house, as well as the Liqor-43 we where advised to have with our desert. The food really is amazing, especially considering the price. A small restaurant on the Wilton Road, a few minutes' walk from Victoria, specialising in Modern British/Modern European cuisine. The plus points are the friendly staff, and the warm and cosy atmosphere - it has a clean, modern decor, with lots of beiges and browns, but also with lots of candles on the night we went. The menu offers a good choice of generally inventive dishes, though occasionally a little fussy for my taste: as an example, good fresh salmon needs only the simplest of accompaniments (dill dressing), but their version comes thus: 'Tequila and beetroot cured gravadlax served with pickled cucumber and sweet mustard and dill sauce'. A blessing is that it's only £5.95. Fortunately, other combinations are a little more restrained, especially on their set menus, and their meat dishes for mains certainly satisfied my fellow diners. The vegetarian dishes are a cut above the average too. Add in a good wine menu, and you can have a very good meal if you choose carefully. The set lunch is £15.50 for three courses, £12.50 for two. Expect dinner for two a la carte, with wine, to cost about £40-£50 a head. The downers were that the service was rather slow - a tad unfortunate, given the restaurant's name - and the additions to the bill (covers, an 'eat-in charge' and 12.5% service). Overall, we had a nice enough meal, but I felt it was a bit pricey for what we had, especially when you have competition like Kazan across the road. Better organised service, a simpler menu and straightforward bill would make a real difference. read more

Like the previous reviewer has said, only a few minutes' walk from Victoria station, this is a good local restaurant/bistro, but not probably one you'd go miles out of your way to visit. The (somewhat tactile) staff are predominantly Spanish speaking and this shows in parts of the menu, e.g. Spanish almond tart (I've taken a photo and uploaded it above somewhere), and it changes regularly. The place is full of candles and with the fairly dim lighting, it creates quite an intimate atmosphere. Food is interesting and whenever I've eaten there, well cooked. (They often have seared fois gras with fried egg and sweet wine as an accompaniment, which is heavenly - try it). Like the previous reviewer said, the 'additions' to the bill are annoying - like the 'eat in' charge - maybe I could have it on the pavement next time and save a fiver?! Overall, a good local restaurant, and I think better than the alternatives nearby, such as Uno and Kazan. If you're in the area, give it a try. read more

What an incredible establishment! Me and a friend were staying just up the road for the night and found this place for dinner. The restaurant is cozy, inviting, and warm and best of all nice and quiet. The service we experienced was second to none, especially the nice man who was especially helpful who I believe was either the owner or the manager. He went so far to make our visit pleasant that he went out of his way to hold both doors for us on our way out. The food is also exceptional. Both of us got the mushroom risotto and it was incredible. Lots of care and flavors are clearly put into the food and it really shows. You really do get delicious and high quality food here without having to pay an arm and a leg which is hard to come by in London. I wish I lived here so I could eat here all the time, and I'm saying that based on my one visit! This place is absolutely worth checking out, highly recommended! read more

Yum! We came here thanks to my friend. My sister and I were in London for a night and we met up with my friend and our only request was that we stay somewhere near our hotel so we could turn in early since we had to catch some Zs before our journey to Gatwick the next morning at 5AM. There isn't much around Victoria Station, except loads of pubs for the after-work crowd but somehow, there's this place, which is just a gem. Firstly, the staff are so kind and welcoming, which is a definite plus. But the food is the real star. There are loads of tapas but they offered a prix-fixe menu so all three of us picked off of that. I opted for the burrata and the risotto, M went for the ham and the monkfish, and A went for the ham and the duck confit. The burrata was really creamy and soft and delicious and the risotto was really well done. The ham was so good - we actually saw the giant pig leg downstairs - and it was served with fresh figs, which complemented the salty ham really nicely. The monkfish was cooked perfectly and the accompanying crisp potatoes were great. The duck confit was executed really well; it was tender and seasoned nicely. I'm sure the menu changes seasonally so I don't know how helpful it was for me to describe each dish but at least it proves that they know what they're doing. For dessert, we shared the creme brulee, which was silky and creamy. Overall, it was a really nice meal and the ambiance was really enjoyable too. I definitely recommend a visit. read more

This little gem in Pimlico has a vaiety of dishes in its menue that should please all and not leave anyone without enjoying a lovely meal. It gets busy for dinner specially from Thursdays, Friday and Saturday. The crowd coudl be well descibed as young, people that work probably in offices around Victoria. About Thyme has officially become my favorite restaurant in my hood. First things first: the food was amazing. We ordered king prawns for starter, and fois gras and crab linguini for main, and everything was done to perfection. In particular, I really liked the king prawns; whilst there was nothing fancy about it, the olive oil/salt/roast pepper sauce was done just right to leave us wanting more. The crab linguini was exquisite as well; my mum, who's a licensed chef herself, said this was the best crab linguini she's had in London. Unfortunately, the fois gras was a bit too raw for my taste, but I was told that that's how it's supposed to be done, so I will leave for the others to decide. Having said that and secondly, the service was SUPERB. The owner noticed that I had not eaten more than half of my fois gras (for the reasons stated above), so he came by to personally ask whether something was wrong. I explained politely, and he was apologetic and offered any other plate or at least desserts on the house. I really appreciated this personal attention and offer, so much that I still left money for the desserts (creme brulee) in cash when I left. Last but not least, I loved the ambience. Painted yellow and purple, I felt like I was sitting in a private garden house. Situated in residential Pimlico, the surrounding area is pleasant for a chill stroll as well. If you're popping by the hood, definitely come by for a solid, homey meal. read more

What a charming little restaurant on Wilton Road! I've been here a few times and it's always a pleasure. The people there are extremely friendly and helpful - the waiter even held the door open for us as we walked out. Amazing. It's got a cute storefront - bright purple so you can't miss it - and it's just as lovely on the inside. We went for dinner most recently on a Wednesday night and it was popping busy. That's a great sign! The food was delicious. They have a set menu option of 2 courses for £22.50 and it's worth it. I had the calamari to start and the duck confit with chorizo, spinach & potatoes as my main and both were delicious. My boyfriend had the Ribeye steak and had nothing but positive words for it. I stumbled on About Thyme with a couple of mates whilst on a mini pub crawl through Victoria - so please take into account that this review is based on a happy and tipsy experience! Great atmosphere both upstairs and downstairs. The menu was varied and caused lots of selection issues - but the good kind. The kind where you want this, and this, and that, but also this. I plumped for quails eggs and black pudding, which was great. And exceptionally generous in size, with four of each. Most restaurants would have stopped at two. For mains I had duck breast which again, was very generous and served as a two large chunks, rather than small slices, as seems to be the norm. Very well cooked and damn tasty. Overall, the meal was great and the atmosphere and service matched. The bill was a tad on the high side, with a 'per person' fee and a premium of a couple of quid per dish on the mains. Reading below about the cover charge is disappointing (I didn't have to pay the bill so that tidbit escaped me!) but the food really is spectacular. I was surprised at the general heartiness of the meals in the height of summer though. Lots of stews and the like, so I was sweating my buns off in the oven-like upstairs environs! The wine that we had - a shiraz from Australia, I think - was incredible. All our meals were exquisite and our dessert - the creme brulee - had been fired to perfection and was quite the hit! The service was fantastic and the atmosphere warm (literally as well!), though we were quite lucky as my contingent left just as a rowdy group of around 20 arrived! It was a tremendous recommendation. We loved the food but even more, we loved the owner of the restaurant who moved among his customers with east and great humor. I came here as my "treat" before leaving London. Absolutely delicious. Had the set dinner in which I chose the "ham with mango", and my entree as "crispy duck" as my meal. Visiting London from NYC for a few days, and walked up this street as a close recommendation from the Concierge at The Doubletree London - Victoria. After perusing all the menus along the street, I figured the variety of tapas would satisfy me and my parents. Pleasantly surprised at the outstanding quality of every dish ordered (even from my dad who claimed he saw nothing he wanted but he would find 'something'). We ordered the bread, Piquillo peppers, fried goat cheese, prawns, octopus, and vegetable risotto..then the fruit crumble for dessert. I really don't know what else to say because every dish was seasoned and cooked to perfection. Dad even said it may have been one of the best cappuccinos ever. Staff was so friendly and helpful. It was a bit of a wait to order food and then to get checks, but I just took it of the "we don't want to rush you" mentality, and the staff was easy to wave down and happy to help.
