You can climb for free on your birthday, and the staff at this location were so friendly and helpful in getting me set up. There's a great gym portion and even an Annex facility with more machines, but the staff is certainly the climbing. It gets busy on a Saturday, but there's a lot of great energy and it can be fun to watch others climb (especially as it's a super exhausting activity and good to rest often). I spent a couple hours here and had a blast. The facility also has lots of natural light! My one small note is that there a very few showers and bathrooms, so would recommend changing in advance of going if you can. Otherwise there can be quite a wait.

Luliias voice is so soothing and her classes are so fun, the Friday class specially feels like everyone is connected Gigis class is super cool on Sundays it should be renamed Juicy Yoga with Gigi lol, shes so funny and connects with everyone, the class feels like cuddles after sex. Spin with Juggy and Melora is elite. Ive gotten so much faster in my road bike after just a few classes. Functional training with Nyerre Mays is un-unreal. He is such a cool dude and such a Pro. The pool is epic, the Jacuzzi forget about it. The entire staff is super friendly and makes everyone feel super welcomed. I truly feel at home whenever I make it to the gym. The MVPs of the gym are the cleaning staff though, everything is so spotless all the time. In a city so chaotic is nice to have this peaceful oasis.

Pros: 1) It's one of the few gyms in the area, and it offers a few ropes routes which is nice. 2) This location is chill and not crowded after work, which is a plus if you work 9-6. You never have to fight over a route even though the gym isn't huge. 3) The employees are super friendly and wonderful. We felt welcomed as soon as we walked through the door. 4) Despite not being new, it seems clean and well maintained. 5) This may be a pro or a con depending on how you look at it, but the grades are slightly soft. I'll frame this as a pro because it makes it a more approachable gym for people who are new to climbing. 6) The climbers I spoke to were all super nice. I've noticed all gyms seem to have their own "culture." This one is welcoming and approachable. 7) There seems to be a good range of setting styles. Cons: 1) While it is nice that there is a rope/sport climbing section, it is pretty teeny, the routes are short, and the grades are pretty much limited to soft 5.11+ and below. That being said, space is a hot commodity in Manhattan so I'm appreciative of any ropes gym. 2) It would be nice if they sold snacks/refreshments. Most gyms offer this and it's a nice way to get more out of your session if you forget to bring your own. 3) With approachability comes climbers who are still learning gym courtesy. Things like starting a route that overlaps with someone else's or not untying one's figure eight knot were things that I noticed. This isn't so much a reflection of the gym, but more of the gym goers which I'm sure they'll learn with time. That being said, I've really enjoyed climbing here! I scanned the QR codes and filled out the forms at my own pace before heading downstairs to check-in. The facility has drinks and snacks available at the front for sale. It was a bit busy in the evening when we went, but not so crowded that it disrupted our climbing. They also have Wi-Fi, lockers, and chalk available for free. Gym is also impeccably clean. As a new climber, I had a great time and even managed to finish a few climbs. Overall, it was an awesome experience (so much that I even considered getting my own membership!)

The trainers are experienced climbers who give great tips and techniques to help you progress as a climber. The routes here are set a little harder than other places but if you can master the techniques they're highlighting it does help you get better faster. The crowd that comes here is also local and super friendly. It's a nice departure from Brooklyn boulders as its pretty quiet and much less crowded. The package for a 10 pack is also quite reasonable if you want to really concentrate and get better at climbing. I guess the only real detractor here is that the climbing gym isn't open for open climb all day. It usually has after school classes and individual training sessions earlier on and open climb starts between 630 and 7 depending on the day.

While I don't doubt they have their own perspective, this was an accurate description of my experience. Communication from management was very ad-hoc (no one ever 'sat me down' to explain anything) and as mentioned in the original review, they even connected me to a random stranger in a different country instead of one of their own employees. Also sad to see management didn't address the other issues in my review which made me want to cancel my membership. The owner cited me 'moving' as the source of problems. I actually cancelled my membership months before I even knew I was going to move, because of the quality of the sessions declining due to the summer camp set-up, which I mentioned in my original review. This would have given me around three months to make-up the last two sessions of the month I had paid for, which proved impossible to schedule with the new trainer. Around a month before I moved I brought up that I would like to be refunded since I hadn't been able to schedule a session with the new trainer and wouldn't be able to after moving. The owner said they would never have offered me a New Year deal they offer everyone if they had known I was moving... but it's pretty common in New York City to move or change leases after one year. It's not like I moved after six months. I also take issue with the characterization of my schedule as erratic. My schedule is about as normal as anyone who works a typical 9-5 office job. If they had availability earlier in the morning for me, I would have taken that slot but all they had was 8-9. Sometimes, like a normal person, I have to travel for work. Sometimes I have to go in for an early meeting. These things are normal and if they're intolerable than maybe this gym isn't a good fit for anyone with a full-time job. As if my trainers did not need to reschedule just as often for personal reasons. It feels like EA employs a double standard where their trainers are absolved for scheduling conflicts but customers are not. That's not a lie, that's based on the new trainer cancelling on me 4 times, which I still have texts and emails from. I'm not the type to use Yelp solely for bashing on a company (most of the reviews I leave are positive) but I am going to use it for it's intended purpose of describing my experience.

Decent climbing gym…read more I've climbed here for a few months while also going to another climbing gym. And the difference is clearly palpable since I'm able to compare them back to back. I'm not the biggest fan of this gym because for the monthly price of $120, you could go to a gym with better equipment, more space, and cleaner holds. There just isn't much to CRG (maybe just the location?) compared to others. It's also underground, so there isn't any natural sunlight and it feels quite stuffy especially with the chalk. Staff 5/5 Facilities 2/5 - Not a fan of their bathrooms (the door slams hard and the locks are different...) or their changing rooms. No showers. No natural lighting. Also, there's crack on the wall with water leakage. Equipment 3/5 - The routes don't get reset often enough (a con for me cause it can feel stale over time). Some of the holds have accumulated so much dirt and chalk that it feels slippery to hold. I don't see much cleaning. Amenities 4/5 - Your typical climbing gym extras, like bandaids, hair ties. Nothing special. No extras like feminine hygiene products, dry shampoo, deodorant that some other gyms have.
