Came to try Grod again after 10 years. The first time in 2014, it was after weeks of not having much Asian food while backpacking through Europe and I was craving familiarity when I saw "congee" on the menu which automatically peaked my interest. The rice porridge with peanuts, soy, sesame oil and cilantro were all what I am used to eating at home. I enjoyed it so much that I came back a second time before departing CPH. Now in 2024, I wanted to try it again to see if it was purely nostalgia or if I still feel the same way. We decided to order the Mushroom Risotto and Chicken Congee. I noticed there is two types of congee on the menu now, plain or with chicken. The mushroom risotto was very good, there was some acidity to it which was nice and quite large a portion. I almost couldn't finish it. Comforting bowl of goodness to have in the morning that's also easy on the stomach. The chicken congee included all of the same accoutrements but there may be a different cooking method used. I recall previously, the congee had plain rice porridge but this time the porridge was tinted light brown likely from cooking with soy sauce. The first few bites were delicious. The addition of the chicken made it a heartier meal. Towards the middle/end though we could not help but notice the porridge was getting saltier and saltier making us down liters of water. Due to this, we did not finish the bowl of porridge as it was too salty for us. I think it still had the essence and soul of congee but it may have been even better with less soy or no soy in the rice porridge at all and have the soy sauce on the side for those who want to add to their taste. I may just be in love with the memory of Grod.
Absolute delight of a place! It is located inside the TorvehallerneKBH food market. There were quite a few sweet and savory options but we were in a mood for the latter so we ordered the Chicken Congee which looked quite interesting - it has chicken, peanuts, sesame, spring onions etc. The picture I took does not do justice on how delicious this bowl was! So much so, we made it a point to recreate this dish once back home. If you love porridge, you have to come here!!
Healthy and delicious... We got porridge and overnight oats and they were both delicious. We added strawberries to the overnight oats for about $1.50 and it was worth it. Coffee was also great. You order at the counter and they bring the food to the table. They have an English menu. The people were nice. It is a nice comfortable and modern store. We felt very comfortable here. It gets packed. We really enjoyed it. We went twice.
Located inside Torvehallerne, was walking distance from our hotel so had the chance to try a few different dishes. Order at the register and grab a seat at the high tops or counter. Service is friendly and quick. Overnight Oats - Good, filling, and healthy. Pretty straightforward dish. Tastes exactly as you would expect with fresh ingredients. This has me inspired to make oats at home more. Mushroom barley-otto bowl- liked this the most. I don't eat barley often, and have never had it as a risotto so this was new for me. The pickled mushrooms and onions, truffle mayo, and other misc ingredients complimented each other oddly well. Flavors I haven't tried combined together before so I was pleasantly surprised how well it worked. Seasonal kale risotto (seasonal)- not very good. would not recommend.
I ordered the oat porridge one + a chai latte since I knew I wanted to try porridge while I was here. They didn't have the porch with all the toppings, so I figured I would go with one of the more popular ones. I was so so happy with this purchase. Who could've guessed oatmeal could taste this good??
This restaurant does mostly does oatmeal, acai, porridges and pasta. I opted for the acai bowl, which was okay. The peanut butter was very natural and thick, and complemented the acai sweetness, and they were generous with the blueberries and banana but the acai wasn't particularly sweet or mindblowing. It was quite expensive as well for an acai bowl. The service was fast as well and the workers all very kind. The ambiance was clean and pop artist inspired, playing lots of Kanye and Frank Ocean. Super cool Gen-Z decor.
My airbnb was really close to Torvehallerne (a two-building food hall with farmer's market outside) and this place noticeably had a long line right at opening. For breakfast they focus on acai bowls and porridge that you can customize. It's a really great option for someone trying to make healthy choices while wanting some variety. In terms of seating, they have bar stools around the perimeter of the building, and benches all around the area (obviously beware of the birds!)
I'm not much of a porridge person, but my friend who recently moved to Copenhagen would not stop selling me on this shop and I can see why. This isn't your mama's porridge and if Goldie Locks was real, she would take one bite of this and realize it was just eighth. I ordered the barley risotto, which came with a mountain of ingredients garnishing the sides (pickled onions, sautéed mushrooms, curly kale, roasted almonds, and thinly shredded cabbage) planted on top of the large porridge bowl. This delicious dish was perfectly seasoned and had a textured surprise with each bite, which provided the right hygge vibes for the day. Unfortunately the bowl only came in one large size in contrast to the rest of the options, so I didn't get to finishing. I also got a freshly pressed juice which provided a refreshing break from the earthy porridge.
The perfect place for risotto or oatmeal lovers (of which I am both!). We shared the oat porridge and the mushroom barley risotto. They were both delicious.. especially the caramel sauce that came with the oat porridge. I only wish I could have come back for a second time during my time in Copenhagen.
This place was delicious! My husband and I were already feeling the pains of prices to eat out in Copenhagen...but luckily Grod was totally affordable and yummy! We ordered the #1 with caramel sauce, apple, almonds and oats and the second time, the All the toppings option. The ladies working here are hustling and serving up some delicious cooked oats. Everything was freshly made and tasted great. We wanted to try to the savory porridge they serve for lunch but will have to try next time! Seating here is limited but if you're able to snag a seat at the bar area- grab your oats and get inspired by reading their cookbook! Grod is located in the Torvehallen market place.
We stopped by Grod for breakfast while visiting Copenhagen and it was the perfect start of a busy day! We tried a yogurt and granola bowl as well as a porridge bowl and both were really delicious and filling. Definitely recommend coming here to enjoy a delicious and casual breakfast. read more

This spot was one of the more popular places I saw people getting food from and so for my last meal in Copenhagen, I had to try it. I believe they call it porridge but I would just call it oatmeal. I ordered the number one on the breakfast side of the menu. The oat porridge came with apples, nuts, and dulce de leche sauce. The meal was so simple yet so delicious! The sauce was really awesome. All the ingredients combined worked perfectly together. Not to mention, it's so comforting to eat something warm like this on a cold morning in Copenhagen. Very glad I tried it. Oat porridge isn't something that sounded appealing to me, but ended up being one of my favorite meals in Copenhagen. Yums! It's a must try if you visit Torvehallerne. Currently wishing I had some right now. read more
I follow Grød on Instagram as inspiration for my generally uninspired homemade oatmeal (totally helpful, by the way) and I love a good indoor market, so I headed right here after arriving in the KBH city center at the conveniently nearby Nørreport metro station. Torvehallerne is fun if you're looking to pick up some exotic spices and organic soap in one go; it's not a great place for a sit down dining experience. Luckily, Grød is so located that if it's nice out you can get your food to go (5 kr discount!) and enjoy it at one of the picnic tables outside. The food itself was super tasty. I got the apple, almond and caramel oat porridge and, my god, that caramel sauce is no joke. From my understanding it's made in house, and it comes on a variety of sweet porridge dishes and in a few drinks. Do not leave without letting that perfect combination of sweetness, salt and oozing deliciousness significantly raise your blood sugar. I was excited to see that they serve skyr here, which I will definitely be ordering if I ever make it back to Copenhagen. 40 kr is steep for breakfast, but the small size portion is plenty sufficient for a light lunch and is definitely a lot less than you'd pay at any of the nearby tourist places. Grød is warm, hearty and healthy; great for warding off the northern chill or fueling up for a day of wandering. read more
We absolutely enjoyed our porridge (there were so many kinds to choose from!!). I had the rice porridge, which I had no idea could be so hearty. The sweetened tarragon puree with the hazelnuts and apple slices put a delightful aniseed twist on the whole dish. Though I was amazed at how many Yelp-loving tourists we had sitting besides us! Every single customer was from America! Though, as my wife said, who else but tourists goes out for porridge at 11am on a work day? True dat! THIS PLACE IS A BIT TRICKY TO FIND. It's inside the farmers-market-esque mall with lots of other tiny artisan shops, It's in the southern building, on the southern side (I hope I remember this right), and it's one of the middle shops. read more
I love Grød and feel like its so unique to Copenhagen. When I was just visiting (before I moved to Copenhagen for good) I always anticipated coming back to Grød to try their food. I've been to the Jægersborggade and Torvehallerne locations and both are equally nice. The food is a great value for the money - I got the Barley-otto (to go/to stay 55/65kr) and it was definitely enough to fill me up at lunch time. The Torvehallerne location can get pretty busy and unfortunately there is limited seating inside for their stall. Luckily there are seats outside as well so if it's a nice day you can probably find a seat there. The Barley-otto was delicious and tasted so fresh - I loved the peas on the top, especially since they're in season now. I am really looking forward to trying to make my own version of this dish at home one day because it was such a great mix of flavors. Torvehallerne can get a little pricey so in my opinion Grød is a great option if you're looking for something different, well-made and budget friendly. read more

Cool spot for "grod" aka porridge aka oatmeal inside Copenhagen's famous food market. All the fixings were fresh and complimented the grod well. Sitting at the bar was fun and a change from a sit down breakfast meal. Wish something like this was opened up in San Francisco's because I think it would be a hit. Overall, good place for breakfast. read more

Are you looking for a good breakfast that is popular in Copenhagen? Are you willing to spend more than 40 DKK for this breakfast? Well, this place may have your answer. What is "grød"? According to a Danish dictionary, "grød" means porridge. I ordered the "Havregrød", which is porridge mixed with almonds, diced apples, and dulce de leche, which is this milky caramel like topping. After the first few bites, I was amazed. I'll probably not look at oatmeal the same way again. It was a great blend of sweet flavours with a great crunch from the almonds and some fresh taste from the apples. According to the people who work at the place, they try to make sure the ingredients are locally produced in Denmark or within a short distance away such as Germany. The price was about 40 DKK if you want to order take away, but you have to pay 5 extra DKK to eat inside and to have it served in a nice bowl with silverware. The fact that a lot of the ingredients are locally produced might explain why the price maybe a little high. Overall, if you are looking for a great and simple breakfast in Copenhagen, this place is a great choice but the price might be a little high. If you are on a budget, I probably would not recommend coming here every day, unless groceries are also more expensive in the markets in Copenhagen. read more

I loved Grød! It was the perfect early morning start to the day. I had my own creation only because I wasn't feeling adventurous, despite the porridge for breakfast not being adventurous at all. However, my friend enjoyed hers. They were out of the rhubarb compote that she was suppose to get in hers so she asked to substitute apple compote instead and she said it was delicious despite the sub. I enjoyed it so much I bought their cookbook! read more
Curious to see how many variations on porridge there can be we decided to give Grød a try. Well, it so happens to be that there are a lot of variations. ;) One should not go here expecting to eat some healthy porridge, even though they serve that too I get the impression the focus is on risotto. Especially during daytime when we were here. Well, even though we did expect more healthy food, the amount of cheese and salt did not take away from the fact that it tasted very good. I got a risotto with asparagus and the flavours were excellent, and the dish, even though it looked small, was very filling... Next time we'll try the healthy alternatives! read more

Congee is nothing like the real congee you'd get in Asia. Of course I was probably expecting too much but to call this congee is just wrong. Should have opted for more local flavors... read more
I have been here three times. I had their Congee, Risotto, and barley. They are really good, and they make it right in front of you, so you know it is fresh. I'm pretty surprise how they can cook these items so fast, as it took me a long time to cook congee normally. However, I found this place a bit salty. I would like to come back for their oatmeal before i leave copenhagen. read more
Great place if you're an oatmeal lover. But this place was just not for me. My dad and I had the Oatmeal II and the Skyr in the Oatmeal gives it a strange taste. The compote is wonderful but I just couldn't enjoy the oatmeal. My sister is an oatmeal lover and gluten free. She got the gluten free oatmeal with the vegan yogurt and couldn't get past the sour taste of it. She also said her oatmeal was salty. Maybe we all ordered wrong because my mom didn't get any yogurt in hers and really enjoyed it. It seems to be a crowd favorite in Copenhagen and I get why. I would come back to try lunch, but I'll pick something else in Torvehallerne for breakfast. read more
What a unique and interesting idea! I really liked it here and would definitely go back! They have some great options to choose from, and the prices are good as well. It's not something that would be difficult to make at home, but it's still definitely worth checking this place out even if just to get some ideas for what to put in your oatmeal. read more

I was here about a year ago on spring break with a couple friends. You wouldn't think that oatmeal/porridge would be that great but we found that somehow tripadvisor, other websites, friends, were all pointing us to Grod. It's not groundbreaking stuff but it's good. Lot's of varieties for toppings, fresh ingredients, and a choice between savory or sweet "grods" depending on how you're feeling in the morning.We ate breakfast here twice over the course of our trip. A bit pricey for what it is, but if you're worried about price, you're in the wrong country. There's not a ton of seating but it's in a nice market area with tons of little boutiques and other interesting food places. They also have a recipe book for sale if you want to make grod at home! read more

Discovered this breakfast spot while walking to lunch. I went back afterwards for a small acai bowl snack and it was the best decision. Simple, delicious and super healthy. Everything is made as you order so it may take a while for your order to finish if there's a long line. Highly recommend! read more

Nice service and quick and quality at an offordable price. Even my friend who is not into Oatmeal loved it. We had the Glutenfree almond milk porridge with PB banana and chocolate. Was really good and perfect to be shared (we took the biggest size). I believe though that it is easy to make your own for 20 times cheaper but I guess that's the experience you need to get at least once while you are visiting CPH read more

We stopped at their counter/store at Torvehallerne one day while we were touring the market. We decided to get the risotto, made with asparagus risotto with lemon, olive oil and watercress. They had it partially cooked on the stove stop and when ordering began finishing off the risotto with additional broth, cheese and olive oil. It was cooked properly, with a slight al dente texture too it. I loved that as she cooked it, she continued to taste it (with a different spoon each time) to make sure it was done. The lemon oil on top really helped bring a acidic note to the dish and the asparagus was very fresh. My only complaint is on their wine. I ordered a glass of white wine to go with it, but it was unchilled and warm which made it not as enjoyable to drink.My husband had the elderflower beer though which was chilled and quite good - not overly fruity. read more

Definitely a -must-go-to spot! I know this is really simple to make, but it's perfect for the people who need breakfast on-the-go. I love how my porridge was made fresh and was not left in the container for a while. I had the gluten free oats with quinoa. It came with my choice of 3 toppings: mixed nuts, fresh strawberries (they were so sweet and red!) and rhubarb compote. This was a delicious combination. The prices were fair for a large bowl of porridge. The last thing I remember, I don't remember seeing a porridge shop in NYC. It would be quite a hit! Coffee was not too expensive either. Definitely will be back to try other combo's. read more

It took us a bit to figure out where Grød was, but we eventually found it in the little culinary paradise in the center of the square. This place serves earnest Danish porridge with a flair of fresh ingredients that's bound to please. We liked the food (and price) so much that we came back for round two during our short trip to Copenhagen. The first time we had the luxurious grød with strawberries, cocoa nibs and hazelnuts plus the creamy broccoli risotto with parmesan, apples and croutons. The second time we ordered grød with rhubarb compote, vanilla, walnuts and skyr (icelandic yogurt) as well as the national dessert rødgrød (rote grütze is the German equivalent). The food was simple, yet great, and the service was super friendly. Grab a bowl of grød for a light breakfast then stroll around the rest of the building to look at the rest of the food goodies the place has to offer! read more

I was initially skeptical of paying what seemed like a lot of money for porridge, but thankfully I was persuaded to go there for brunch. And boy, did Grød deliver! Awesome porridge with over-the-top amazing toppings that I still haven't been able to recreate at home. Will definitely go back here. read more

I had the chia-porridge summer special and it was delicious. Quite a large portion and the price was great. Delicious mixture of banana, toasted coconut, peanut butter, and berry compote. I think I will be upset that there isn't a Grød for me to visit in California very very soon. read more

Location/Accessibility: Central, across the street from station Nørreport in a larger food court. Wheelchair accessible from some doors. Not sure about the toilets. Service/Setting: Being inside a food court, the noise level is above average and there's limited seating. Not for fine dining, but definitely pleasant. Takeaway is just as easy as eating in. Polite service! Selection/Price: I went for the simple, oatmeal porridge. I passed by outside of their typical serving times (mid afternoon), but no worries as it was delicious reheated in the canteen. Their toppings are where they shine, rhubarb compote, toasted almonds and the tart Icelandic yoghurt Skyr. Absolutely delicious. The steep pricing of fancy canteen food felt justified for the duration of my meal, I was full for 40DKK but perhaps a bit too much for me. Overall: Worth a visit, I look forward to visiting their own shop at a later time. read more

Nice little porridge spot - I'm surprised there is no equivalent in London yet. I'm sure a porridge bar would go down a treat here. I stopped off here on a quiet Sunday morning - although I wanted to go for the congee (Asian rice porridge), they weren't doing that until 11am, so I went for the dairy-free soy milk/quinoa based porridge (sorry, Peru) with pear, hazelnuts, and dried berries. The consistency was just right, and the toppings went nicely - I particularly liked the added crunch from the hazelnuts. It could have been a little bit sweeter (although I did forget to ask for sugar, so probably my fault), but overall it was enjoyable. My black coffee also had a decent flavour. If you're looking for a quick, filling, healthy breakfast, this is definitely a nice little spot and I'd definitely go back if I lived around there. read more
