What a comfy book store with lots of great finds!…read more Came here on a weekday afternoon to browse some books for something new and to get a few books from my TBR list. The space inside feels older, it has characters & that bookstore feel you can't explain. I was pleasantly surprised by how big the store was! They did a really good job of organizing books so it wasn't hard to find what I was looking for and in addition to it was easy to browse I ended up spending over an hour just looking around. The downstairs area also has a used book area which I love because it makes them more affordable which helping someone explore an older book for the first time. Anytime I'm in the area I'll be popping in to see what's new (or used) and grab a few books. I highly recommend for anyone wanting to surf through hard copies of books to pick what's right for them. They also had a section of items you can gift as well!

The moment I walked in I was approached by a woman doing a petition. She asked me to sign after…read moreverbally giving me info. I told her I'd like to read about it before I sign and she kind of looked at me like I'm crazy and said "I like to be more informed before I make a decision." She told me no one else had to think about it and I told her I did. That was weird and uncomfortable, especially when she turned from me and asked my wife. She gave the same answer. Selection is pretty broad but the store is very political and it's obvious. They have a sign that said "everyone is welcome, except ICE.", Black Lives Matter, gay pride, and anything that is demeaning to republicans. It's honestly distracting and disappointing. Someone who may not have the same beliefs may not feel comfortable walking around with fascist stickers, and everything that is demeaning towards "the right". Value is good and as I said before the selection is quite broad. There were a lot of pro-gay books which you never really see anywhere else. There are also all kinds of self help books and everything else you might expect. Overall I do recommend this place, but I can see how a large majority of people would feel really out of place here. That aside, it's a really nice establishment with very friendly staff. Not so crazy about the woman in the front pressuring me to sign her petition. I'm sure she meant well though.

Now, if you are wanting to sell books I would not recommend hauling in 40 pounds of books to receive only $7. I was disappointed. I would suggest taking some to the free library boxes around the community.

There's plenty of…read moreparking, but be careful crossing the walkway into the store as it's near the shopping plaza entrance, and drivers turn in rather quickly. The store is large and spacious with a lot of merchandise that is very well organized. There is a Starbucks in the front of the establishment and you can get your favorite beverage and relax. They also have a great selection of magazines, special gifts for the book lovers in your life, and I always seem to find something good in the clearance area. The staff is helpful in finding whatever you're looking for.

Wife shops here a lot, especially in the last month $300+ has been spent. She noticed she got no…read morereward for anything and then also noticed NO receipt. So she couldn't get her points by proving she spent that money. Couldn't get any receipt whatsoever. The manager Aundria looked up today's receipt for us but somehow had excuses for the receipts from 7/11 that were conveniently at $200+. Customer service was terrible the whole time bc the people who came before her had terrible attitudes about the entire thing as if we were ruining their day with this. Wife kept stressing we need those receipts bc some of the books are Barnes n noble editions which are known to have misprints and without a receipt we can't get that replaced. We got fed up and had to make a scene until they made a non receipt return for us to get the money back now.

That's so cool. The Webster Groves Bookshop will probably only take you a few minutes to look through. There aren't lots of book-related-but-not-book items here. No expensive candles with cute names, no $40 totes with a book quote. This place is pretty bare except for the books and some greeting cards on the wall. Greeting cards on luxurious and thick paper that cost the same or less than a generic Hallmark card would cost you at Schnucks. I bought a birthday card. There are some local history books and some books on other topics. Wow, I'm really blanking here. Maybe I should go back and refresh your memory.

Really cute bookshop and the prices are on-par with stores like Barnes & Noble but I was a bit…read moredisappointed. I wish they had more stickers and other small things like postcards, buttons, patches, etc. I can't afford to buy new books but I like to support local bookstores in the ways that I can. The ladies working were nice but mostly kept to themselves. There's a great atmosphere in here and I could see myself attending some of their events if I lived nearby.

This is an amazing bookstore located on Delmar. I always stop in for a good book everytime I walk…read morethe street. The smell of fresh books always gets me. They have a good amount of different genre of books. They even have a children section which I believe they sit and read books to them. The service is always great they even helped me out pick out some good books to read! The value of the books are pretty reasonable.

Ever be of two minds about a place…read more One, you really want to like them, but then Two... knowing they're usually NOTHING like what their store title promises you? The second part is my problem with "Half Priced Books". (At least the one just off of 170. I swear I've been to their other location but remember absolutely zilch about them overall (not a good sign for writing reviews, I know.)). I've already seen other reviews who have pointed out "DO NOT SELL YOUR BOOKS" here.. and I understand every one of those reviewers. I overheard some offers for some -standard- books and .. I get making money and reselling, but no, this deal sounded like highway robbery. Not sounding too good so far, huh? or maybe I'm just a crotchety old man who hates seeing good books get ignored just cause they're not in our "market" today. Now: I will say this.. i'm a board game and tabletop roleplaying game fanatic (particularly Palladium books), and this is one of the FEW places that ever have what I'm looking for in my roleplaying Genre. (Yes, I will buy used books to complete my collection). But let's get back to the complaints: (usually I'm a lot nicer in my reviews, but when you blow it this badly...) Until not too long ago, when i picked up a min-book i needed in which the cover price was $19.95, and someone had to have brought it in and sold it to HPB, and _maybe_ got A buck or 2 for it. HPB Sticker price: $35!!!!! Yes, read that again folks... A "half price" book shop, charging DOUBLE what the original publisher (who was still publishing the book in question, was NOT out of stock, and could be found on their webpage for cover price + s/h). So which is the lie? The price or the name of the shop? Basically a store that lies to sell? 0 Stars... TOTAL. But I will say there are two things that are going in HPB's favor: There are some books there for reasonable prices (I'm an Asimov. Clarke, Heinlein fanatic (basically SciFi) and Sherlock Holmes and Agatha Christie. And I finally found a couple of copies of the later Foundation series I'd been hunting for, so I had to get them while the getting was good. And then board games: again next to roleplaying games I'm a board game nut! And there are more than a few good used games there, for instance I'm a Trivial Pursuit collector (a small collection, but a collection), and I cannot see putting a near RETAIL price on a board game that's shows itself to be 45 years old, and while in good shape, the container was showing its age. As for DVDs/Vinyl - Plain and simple, (while it's nice to see Vinyl for sale), if they have something you're looking for, again there's a problem in either the name of the store or their selling policy, because everything felt "near retail". (although I guess you can say they're not "Half Price Books & Music".) Take a better chance at a regular or used record store, for the music lovers of the world. So basically as I said at the beginning: Half Priced Books Is a place that I REALLY want to like them (and do have a couple of good points, (softback books and board games) but how do you give a positive review to a store that completely ignores their own name of their store? Sorry HPB I get the point, but 1 star is all I can bring myself to give you this time around and that's because I usually err on the side of generosity. (Probably because I'm still miffed about the "twice the cover price" book I needed?)
