Great prices on puzzles, games and books. I even like their calendar selection. If you need a book on a topic I am sure you will find it there. Now, if you are wanting to sell books I would not recommend hauling in 40 pounds of books to receive only $7. I was disappointed. Such a great story. We walked in, and we're instantly greeted. When we went to check out, the female was super pleasant, and so nice to engage in conversation with. We will definitely be returning. We have added this to our monthly go to spot after having dinner together. Highly recommend. The employee even told me that if we found a book that we wanted, they could order it in bulk for however, many wanted it and they would have it ready for us, I thought this was amazing. read more

Half Price Books - Mystery section - Bookstores Near Me - St. Charles, Missouri

This location is in a busy strip mall with basically everything you need for a shopping trip. The layout of the store is a bit different from what I'm accustomed to, but it's not hard to figure out. They have a fantastic selection of newer books or older books. I was hopeful for more in that "middle" time frame, but I can't complain with such a vast selection. The store is super clean and organized well. The employees I conversed with were nice, polite, and helpful. I really could've bought more, but i gave myself a limit this time of three books. I could easily go nuts in a bookstore, though. Also, they have some video games, including consoles, plus dvds and vinyl. The prices are pretty decent, really. I miss the days of little hole-in-the-wall used bookstores for cheap, but this store does pretty well in terms of offerings and price. read more

Always a great experience selling at HPB in Chesterfield and UCity. Terrible service at the St. Charles branch. Took them forever to look through the books. It wasn't a busy time. It had been so long since I've been to a bookstore, and was craving the need to go to one. Half Price Books filled that craving. While the selection of new books is limited hence the 4 stars they are packed full of everything else from board games, to movies, music, and even self-help books. read more

Perusing the shelves of local bookstores is one of my favorite things to do. So, today I decided to return to this location in hopes to find some good books at a reasonable price. Unfortunately, as I was about to check out one of the staff members felt the urge to criticize how I was wearing my mask. My mask was on just fine, but the lady insisted that the mask cover the entirety of my nose - not just my nostrils. If you enjoy being harassed about how you wear your mask, then this is the perfect bookstore for you! read more

This bookstore is like other locations of the chain that is around Metropolitan St. Louis and Kansas City in many ways but different is size. It's sections are similar to the other locations with reference to fiction, non-fiction, games and vinyl records. If you are looking for a particular book, chances are that they will have it; if not they would order it. the staff is friendly, too, and helpful if and when you ask for it. As bookstores go, all Half Price Books are about the same, and except for being smaller, this location is just about the same as the others. If necessary, I'll go there. But I still prefer going to the independent bookstores instead of the chain stores. read more

This location is a nice store with friendly staff, but I am highly dissatisfied for multiple reasons. I was in search for the book "The Hate U Give" and I was going to buy it on amazon before anything. I saw that the book was $11.99 on amazon, and I figured I would check Half Price Books for a cheaper price. Much to my surprise, I see the book on their shelves at $15. What??? Isn't this supposed to be Half Price Books, not Pay Twice Books? After finding this horrific sight, I decided to leave the store. Upon Returning today, I was going to check if the price changed. SPOILER: Nope. I now have books to sell with me. I decided to try selling with the store to try the experience. Much to my surprise, I had plenty of books to sell. I decided to part with two whole shopping bags of books, as well as 2 video games, 20+ CD's, and more. I walk in and put my bags on the counter and go through the set up process. After waiting a long while of 30 minutes or more, I step up. They offered me $4.50 for all of my items. $4.50... I was shocked. The bags I used to carry the items in are worth more. I will consider even returning here again as I am disgusted with what I have seen in the past. read more

I love browsing through bookstores. I've tried this one a few times over the past couple of years. My message to you is "Don't Bother". The inventory never changes and is not very plentiful. Many of the books are in poor shape with water stains, broken bindings, and ripped covers. They are the kinds of books that you might find at a book fair for 25 cents and they are priced at $12 here. I've been to other Half Price Bookstores and it's not the case with those. My advice is to drive a little farther and go the the Half Price Bookstores in University City or Chesterfield. read more

This may be the newest location of Half Price Books but it along with the Delmar location are the cream of the crop. For their tent sale they had all of their product out ready to buy. As a result I spent the most money at this location. This location wisely put all of the product that didn't fit on the tables under the tables so customers could still browse through it and buy. read more

I'm giving a 3 star strictly for the fact that I'm sick of businesses wasting shoppers time by not updating their store hour information. There a less than five main places that shoppers go to for information about a store. Is it that damn difficult to actually keep them up to date? In times like this I would think stores would try a little harder to make sure customers keep coming in. read more

Great place to shop but don't try to sell anything here. They give you pennies for your books. Sad! They had one book I was trying to sell on their shelf selling for $20 and then offered me less than $1.50 for my set of five from the same series. Then they try to blame it on their current stock. They didn't have any of the other books from the series. Sell your stuff on Ebay. Don't get ripped off here. Every time I have tried to sell them anything it has always been an offer of a couple bucks. It can be one item or a box full. read more

Fantastic place on the way home from work. I exchanged some old books and got money towards some new ones for my family trip.

My 86-year-old father used to be a book publisher. He took a handful of brand new books (still in their wrappers from printers) to Half Price Books (Zumbehl Road location in St. Charles, MO) to sell. Books marked with retail prices of $27.50 and up. He only wanted $1 per book, which is a steal and would allow the store to make a great profit. He was told by one clerk that it was probably "doable." After talking with another clerk (or supervisor) in the back, the first clerk came back and only offered 50 cents per book and told him she found them online on Amazon for $1 each. My dad was the publisher, so the only books sold on Amazon would have been used by other people, and they were way higher than a dollar because I looked them up. Not only did they lie, but they took advantage of my 86 year old father and basically told him to take it or leave it. It would have been better if they just turned him down saying they didn't think they could sell them. He could have turned them down, but he just wanted to get out of there after that. My whole family shopped at Half Price Books, but not after seeing their business ethics. Never going back. Seller beware! read more
