I can't even begin to describe the nightmare that is this university. Go here if you want to waste…read moreyour time, money and energy. I don't think there is one damn person in any one office that knows how to do their own job. They lost my transcript not once, twice, three times but FIVE TIMES I had to have it re-sent to them because they "didn't receive it" the first three times and then only could find part of it the fourth, which resulted in them signing me up for a class I didn't need only to find out two weeks after the semester started, and having to switch into the correct class late. That's not the only fax they've lost of mine resulting in me having to jump through hoop after hoop just to do something that should've taken hours, not days, and screwing up my entire schedule. I stayed maybe one or two nights in one of their dorms, hated it so much and asked to withdraw from student housing and they still charged me over 2 grand. The campus security is some of the rudest and most useless people I've ever encountered. They issue parking tickets every chance they can get, and one time I left an expired parking pass on my car and some bitch called me saying if I didn't take it off they were going to arrest me?? I called them to walk me back to my dorm one night because there are so many rapes on campus and they took 35 minutes to get to me. And one time I crashed my bike and was crying in class so they had the police called on me and the counseling office had the police FORCE ME against my will onto an ambulance and said I couldn't refuse treatment which made me miss both my classes that day and instead they took all my belongings except my underwear and had me sit in the hospital for NINE hours before a social worker walked in and said I could leave. This place is literally hell. Go somewhere else.

At one point they unenrolled me in my degree program and changed my courses for the next semester without telling me. This made it so I couldn't graduate on time because the classes they had taken me out of were all full so I could not reenroll. They do not care about students!

GR location - I am a fourth year student at Davenport University. My experience has been a…read morerollercoaster. As for campus life and environment, I have no complaints. Nice campus, maintained well, dorms are very nice, food is decent, etc. The negative side of everything is the staffing (outside of professors). Advisors, financial aid, and housing have been such a disappointment. You are not talked to professionally by staff in these departments. My advisor has given me a horrible experience. As a first time student, we do not understand credit requirements to the fullest, which is why we have advisors. Unfortunately, my advisors communication with me was and is terrible. Turns out they have been under scheduling me. There was no form of notice or communication about this either. I actually brought it to her attention because something looked off in my credits and degree completion. She then told me, oh you have only been scheduled for 12 credit hours a semester, a 4 year degree plan would be 15. I did have a different advisor my freshman year, switched my sophomore year due to sports teams. My advisor my first year was great and I was being scheudled the proper amount of class credits. This current advisor absolutely screwed me over. No I am stuck either taking double classes a semester, or taking an extra two semester due to her lack of communication. Seems like a money launder to me. Now for financial aid. Please, if you enroll here look through everything. Ask for an itemized receipt of your finances. There are several things that were missed on my aid. They almost did not even add my proper scholarships. Was not fixed until I brought it to their attention. It is so unfortunate I feel like I am doing half of the work the employees are supposed to be doing. Nobody does their job here and it is quiet ridiculous considering the amount of money you pay. Financial aid claims they are very flexible and can work with you through circumstances. By flexible, they mean only giving you two payment plan options, as high as 800 something a month for 3 months. (depending on your tuition price). It is still pretty annoying they don't work with your financial situations as they state they do. Overall, I don't mind my campus, athletics, and classes. DU NEEDS new staffing. It has honestly ruined my experience and it sucks to see I am giving them thousands of dollars.

Do not recommend this school to my military friends or veterans unless you like calling multiple times and having to leave multiple voicemails, you having to constantly reach out and still get no answers, like having a school that doesn't believe in communication. What I learned when I graduated in 2008 was that not all colleges or college programs are created equal. In fact not only are they not created equal but some of them should probably be shut down for not having the adequate teaching staff and resources to prepare their students for their professions real world work environment. Ferris State University's "Digital Animation and Game Design" program is one of those programs. Stay away from this program at this school, it will put you in large amounts of debt and leave an unemployable mess when you finish. Anything taught in this program can be learned on Digital Tutors for 45 dollars a month. In fact to be fair to Digital Tutors you can learn a great deal more on their website than you can while attending this school. Also avoid David Baker and do not attend any classes taught by this man. He has been moved to head the program recently because of a lack individuals willing to take the position and he will be no help to you and your future as an industry professional. If you truly want to work for an animation or video game company find a school that has real industry professionals who work for big name companies that teach during their spare time and always do your research about a program online and in person. If something doesn't feel right follow your instincts and keep looking. Putting yourself in debt is a serious commitment and you better be sure you are learning what you need to make it in the real world or it could ruin your life. You cannot file bankruptcy for student loans its a burden you will carry your entire life.

Loved the beautiful campus and smaller size student body, loved the many social activities, (sororities and fraternities), loved the professors for the most part, and LOVED the many opportunities for Christian growth. We loved our dorms BACK THEN in the 1990's in Dykstra and Kollen. We're hearing about mold in the dorms now. Uh, you need to work on the up-keep people. Hope always likes "looking good" on the outside with beautiful landscaping, and new buildings, etc.but not as much for student living (behind the scenes). My Dad was a major contributor in helping for these things to happen. One major negative is the basketball team's lack of community. My husband played basketball and VanWieren never bothered to have relationships with the guys who did not live and breathe basketball. He was also in Chapel Choir, and that did not go over very well! Very little team bonding took place off the court. Opportunities for this did not happen. He lived with 2 other players but knew virtually nothing about the others. My husband put 4 very hard working and rewarding years into the team with me along for the ride as his girlfriend! Fun! Didn't seem to count for much. Here's the scary part...... The 3 coaches came to our wedding, left very quickly thereafter, didn't stay for the reception and are you ready for this? They gave us a gift of 29 cent baskets. Horrifying I know. The youngest coach of all never even had conversations with us when we'd see him at Christ Memorial, etc. Well, that's our take. We still enjoyed our years there, despite all of the "team stuff", and have never regretted going there. GO HOPE.
