The 1 good thing that occurred in my life because of the Covid pandemic was being invited by a long-distance friend to attend Weds evening Bible Study and Sunday worship service with this Grace United Baptist Church located on Jackson Street in DC via Zoom, as I wouldn't have had that opportunity without the option to attend virtually if it hadn't been for the pandemic! I enjoy time spent with the Grace Church family, mother Davis, Reverend Gary A. Davis & wife 1st Lady Christina Davis, and learning about the word of God and praising Him. If you're in search of a welcoming, upbeat, caring church family with a Reverend that strictly preaches & teaches from the Word of God (KJV, NEW KJV, NLT BIBLE, etc) and DOESN'T stray from the Word nor take any of its content out of context, as I know some Pastors, Reverends, Priests, and churches do today, especially in terms of things that are becoming more widely accepted (but an abomination to the LORD) in our society today such as homosexuality & gay marriages, or allowing people without true knowledge or understanding of the Bible to think premarital sex is acceptable in the eyes of the Lord, then this is a church for you! Reverend Davis doesn't sugarcoat the Word with the hope of increasing the number of members, donations, & tithings but rather preaches & teaches the true Word directly from the Bible with a mission to lead as many people as possible to the Lord to receive their salvation... I truly feel blessed for the opportunity I was given when I received the invitation to attend their service via Zoom from a dear friend & long-time member of the church that lives in Washington DC, many miles away from me here in the state of PA. Even now more than 3 years since the pandemic blew up, I'm still able to attend worship svc and Wednesday Bible study virtually every week via Zoom! Praise the Lord for the blessings and opportunities that we're given during both good and bad times! I joined Grace United Baptist Church over two yrs. ago. I sang in all 4 choirs and was a secretary for our women's ministry. My issue is this:I recently got married this summer 2012 a minister of the church. My first lady of the church harrassed me for months for me to allow her to help me coordinate my wedding. I had intended on hiring a wedding planner and I interviewed several. She convinced me to go with her and she would accept a love offering. This really shocked me with the first lady due to the fact she didn't speak to me for the entire yr. I was in the church. So after watching her run the church I was very sceptical, but I did go along with her offer and allowed her to help me coordinate my wedding.It was a disaster, she showed up late to three of my meetings with vendors and then had to leave 30 minutes after coming late. She then did not know what me or my bridemaids or maid of honor was wearing. She handled me with a long handle spoon with this wedding.The day of the wedding she showed up 30 minutes late and then rushed everyone as if we were the ones that were late. She then proceeded to criticize my runner calling it cheap and started talking about me to other church members and my family members.She then insulted my friends, family and my husbands as well. After the wedding was over I went into deep prayer and ask GOD to reveal to me why she did what she did to me.My husband went to her husband the Pastor who married us and requested a meeting with the both of them so I could tell her how I felt she did my wedding. My husband gave our Pastor her husband a love offering, then she harrassed me about where is her love offering before the meeting took place.I gave her the love offering and a gift along with a card. She ran my truck down to hand me back my love offering and then proceeded to get loud at the truck in front of church members and the members children that was outside playing after service one Sunday.We had the meeting in Aug. and it did not go well, she came in with a attitude and was interrupting my husband who started out talking first in a very calm voice. Her husband sat there and said nothing but stare at me the entire time in the meeting. Then my husband gave me the chance to speak and I said in a very calm voice why I chose to give her the very low love offering that I gave her. She went off on me, she insulted me, my marriage and belittled me so bad I was furious. Her husband the Pastor of the church sat there and said nothing!She then proceeded to tell me that I was going to burn in Hell and that my marriage was not going to last a yr., and that my husband could have done better in a choice of a mate. Then called us broke and said she was trying to bring Class to my wedding. I still after all those insults tried to show her respect, and still call her first lady. I lashed back with insults to her and then got up to strike her but her husband the Pastor stopped me and so did my husband and I left the church highly upset. What disturbs me is our Pastor never stopped his wife from insulting me, never tried to calm her down or tell her honey we are still in church in my office lets show some respect. He didn't open his mouth! After long prayer me and my husband resigned from the church 2 weeks ago, my husband took the pulpit to address the congregation, by telling them that we were leaving and he did not go into detail. But that they would be truly missed. The members started crying, we were loved and we looked at our members as family. I receive a phone call from one of my ex-members and she proceeded to tell me that our ex-Pastor took the pulpit and defamed my character to the congregation. He told them that I was unruly. He told the congregation about what I did and said to his wife but did not mention what she said to provoke me to lash out at her. The Pastor also wrote us a letter telling me and my husband that he received a letter from the marriage license bureau and that it stated that our marriage was invalid. So he mailed us the letter that was addressed to him, we read the letter and the letter asked him to sign the court copy of the marriage license so they can document our wedding and make it valid, HE REFUSED TO SIGN THE REST OF MY MARRIAGE LICENSE. Then he wrote my husband a letter telling him due to what happened in the meeting in Aug. that he feels best that we take care of this matter ourselves and go to the courthouse to get remarried and have someone else to sign the marriage license.He signed the original marriage license, but wouldn't sign the court copy license to make it legal. After taking these documents to the courthouse my husband explained to the clerk and showed all letters to her and the original marriage license. She then legalized the document from his original signature on our marriage license and we were then by law married. I have never expereince anything of this nature and I feel Pastor Gary A.
