I found them to be very accommodating of my schedule, as I was in from out of town and someone recommended I go there. There are at least two different things going on here, one is massage, and the other is acupuncture, one is with Lynne, and the other is with Kit. And they both have different personalities which I think could make a nice complementary experience depending on one's own preferences. All of my services were provided by Lynne, however Kit was really helpful in getting me scheduled. Someone mention that she talks a lot, which is true, however for me, I found it to be educational in terms of learning how to use my body better, to help my poster, to know what muscles interact with other muscles and how. I found it helpful to raise my level of conscious awareness of what I'm doing with my body. So I think what may be too much is subjective, and Lynne also seems receptive to asking for what you want, if you are more of the quiet contemplative type, just let her know upfront. It was not like any other massage I have had however, as I'm typically the type that likes 'deep pressure' and a little pain to go with my relaxation. That is not Lynne's style, however what she did do was very gentle, but provided a lot of relaxation, better posture and easier breathing. She was very systematic in what she did, and even when I did not tell her about certain things that also bugged me, she could feel the muscle differences (or something she might describe it differently) and get them to relax. If I lived in Austin, I'd go here more often, so that I could re-teach my body how to move and stand. As Lynne pointed out, the human body is exceptional at continuing to function in the midst of dysfunction. I felt great for a few days after, and then, I think as is normal a lot of my physical habits of movement start creeping back in. It's taken me a lifetime to get some of the movement habits I have, it isn't going to be undone forever in 1 or 2 sessions. I'd definitely go back the next time I'm in Austin, the prices are reasonable, the service is good, and they are responsive to my needs. read more

There is a massage therapist that advertises heavily on Craigslist that claims to work out of Dragonfly Wellness Center. The Therapist, Angela/Angie, a competent provider, when she keeps her appointments. It is so difficult to find massage therapist on Craigslist that isn't a little shady. I have had a rough year and really wanted to treat myself for my birthday, so I put in some extra overtime and booked an extended massage (2+ hrs). The appointment was made on Wednesday for the following Monday, my birthday, and a follow-up confirmation on Saturday. I took the day off on Monday and planned my entire day around my scheduled massage. I showed up for the appointment, and nobody answered the door. After waiting a couple of minutes, I sent her a text feigning confusion over the time of the appointment. I received a quick reply claiming that I had not given a "needed same day confirmation", of which she had neglected to inform me beforehand. I don't usually hold grudges, but I am extremely disappointed and the experience cast a shadow on the rest of my day. Happy Birthday to me! I had been planning on treating myself for 6 months, arranged the appointment well in advance, confirmed the appointment 2 days prior to it, and taken the day off work (the first time I have taken the day off for my birthday in 10+ years). If she keeps her appointment, you will be happy with the level of service you receive, but I don't see how I can trust setting another appointment with her. read more

Came here out of proximity to my house and all the good yelp reviews.... My experience was not a pleasant one. Let's start off, I have been in the medical field for 15+ years, also have training and licensing as a massage therapist. Also, I currently work training doctor's on anatomy via 3D software. Plus I have training in a few different types of martial arts. So I know my body and how it functions individually, in parts, and as a whole. I came in for a tight left neck and left upper trap. I have been working and stretching areas around the shoulder to relax it, but I can't relax it and work in it at the same time, so I booked the appointment with Lynne. Walked in first thing in the morning and said I had an appointment, and Lynne said 'do you?' Then pulled out her phone and looked at it for a while and then with a Huff, said "well I guess you do." Then I proceeded to try to tell her what my issue is, and she then proceeded to argue with me that my real issue is in my legs and hip. I understand the concept of tensegrity, and yes, when áreas are mid-aligned or tense, that makes other areas tight and mis-aligned and you usually feel the pain in the weaker/more strained areas.... But I also told her that I know my posture and my shoulders were rolled forward because I was in pain. I told her about my training as a massage therapist and where I want for my training. She then proceeded to talk bad about the school and the owners. This is unprofessional! But what should have I expected from someone who started off the meeting with a Huff. So she told me that most of her massage resembled Thai, and what did I want from today's session, I told her I don't mind if she works on some of the other parts but I want my shoulder worked on and to not feel as much or any of the pain. I then laid down face up on the table. Then for the next 45 minutes she spent doing traction, active engagement stretching, body mobilization techniques, and a few other techniques on my legs!! And having my legs positioned in a way and saying 'see how you leg moves/doesn't move like this/that, it's because of tension". All the while I am thinking, 'no my leg moved that way because you have my leg/knee pointed that way, so that is the way it is going to move". Then her moving my leg and aligning it differently from before and trying it to put it that THAT is how my leg should have reacted the first time. No, it is positioned in a different way, so it will move different. (e.g. the knee is pointed towards the outside and is slightly bent will move differently when the leg is straightened and rolled inward. That is basic anatomy and physiology) All the while she is doing this, she is talking crap about this and that. Covering the instructor at a local massage school, how awful Texas is (Lynne is from Chicago), how all the people from the South will smile at your face then stab you in the back, how Chicago style pizza is the best and everything else is not worthy of eating.... all this is unprofessional. For the next 15 minutes she had me initially on my side doing similar techniques for my lower back, then on my other side to do the same techniques. This is the side so I am laying on my shoulder that hurts and still hasn't been touched. At one point I flinched when she was rolling me, and she says 'see that's the tension in your QL!" I replied, NO! That was from my shoulder that hurts!" She then had me lay on my back again and spent about 5 minutes moving my hurt shoulder through range of motions and opening my chest up and doing some superficial work on my Pecs. Then she moved to my other arm! Didn't do any work directly on my neck. Never touched on my knot in my trap...and we were done. Lynne then said, "well we have gone a little over, stand up and how do you feel?" I stood up and looked in the mirror and replied with 'well I feel more aligned, but my shoulder still hurts.' She then huffed (again) and then walked out of the room. I then paid and said I know I needed to get more regular massages. And that I would be back if it was to get alignments. This service would be the same if you took your car into get a flat fixed, but they said that you need a tire alignment, an oil change, transmission fluid flush....and then did all those but never fixed the flat! Or if you went to the doctor for a twisted ankle and they then ignored that and focused on your diet, or vision, or skin. Lynne, work on the issue presented as the main focus. Alignment takes multiple visits to work on! The bad posture and mid-alignment in people is developed over years/months of repeated actions/patterns, it cannot be fixed in one session. The body has to be retrained. And don't make the assumption of how someone is when you only meet them once and when they are in pain. People come to massage to help with aches and pain, they return to keep that up and improve themselves. Treat the issue, then the symptoms! Basic medical treatment. read more

Where everyday massage therapy leaves off, Dragonfly is just getting started. 2 days after my first session with Lynne and I still feel amazing! Learn how your muscles (large and small) are affecting your posture, flexibility and physical ability while Lynne employs her technique to align and balance all of the muscles in your body. Even if you're totally out of whack (like I was) she can make huge improvements with you in just an hour. For me it was pain in my shoulder, flat feet, leg aches from running and limited range of motion in my left arm from an old skateboarding injury - all greatly improved by Lynne in just an hour and with none of the discomfort of chiropractors or deep tissue massage. Tip: prepaid sessions are $60/hr instead of $80 (reg. price). Well worth it! Especially since you come out feeling terrific. First came here after taking a fall on a bike and couldn't stand straight the next day(it was not a graceful fall). After a couple of acupuncture treatments with Kit, my pain subsided and I was able to stand up straight. All a medical doctor gave me for the problem was pain medication. Very pleased that I gave dragonfly wellness center a try and have been coming ever since for acupuncture to deal with neck and shoulder pain I get from working on a laptop for too long. read more

Don't get a massage here if you want to relax. The masseuse/owner never stopped yapping... the entire hour long! Her technique was seemingly efficacious, one that i have never seen before. She was very knowledgeable of the body (speaking much of her years of experience) and while on the table it felt pretty good! However, during the next few days all the joints she worked on were constantly popping and it felt pretty awful. At 80 bucks/hr it's not worth it, in my opinion. Also, she was moderately derisive when the topic of Swedish massage came up. That's fine if it's not her thing but I'm sure that would make other customers feel reluctant to voice their preference. Speaking of the 80 dollar massage... I found out that a friend of mine whom i had referred to her (her skill seemed promising when I received a 5 min massage at Independence Brewery 1st Saturday.) was being charged 60 dollars, not 80. I understand that 60 is the pre-paid rate but he definitely did not prepay! Naturally this bothered me. I won't go back. I know people that really enjoy her work. Oh, how I wish I was not leaving Austin in less than a month. First of all, this is Eastern Medicine and Wellness Center. Don't think of this in comparison to your spa mani/pedi and massage place. If you want a nice massage, go get your massage from your fast-food style first-year masseuse feel good leave a tip and go about your business. If you want life changing therapeutic massage and Eastern Medicine Practitioners... these well educated, well-studied people are your new Gurus. Eastern Medicine may not be a full-blown replacement for Western Medicine but I think surgeries are a last resort. This is pain management, health and wellness treatment at it's finest. If I had discovered her and this practice, 7 years ago (were they around that long?) maybe I could have avoided a huge weight gain, current migraines, dizziness, low iron, the 4 herniated discs that ended up requiring the 2 surgeries, and a bunch of other fun issues, falls with broken bones and concussions with memory loss, which then have their own issues. Kat Garcia's education, both in the sciences, Eastern Medicine, as well as personal experiences, make her a wonderful practitioner. Wonderful, what a poor word to describe her. It doesn't begin to encompass all I feel she is capable of. I felt that she completely listened and understood. I have had regular acupuncture and massage in the past, and I know what it can do. In one session, I feel remarkably better. If I was able to stay and be a regular, I know, we could resolve so much of this. read more

Kit is an excellent acupuncturist. She is experienced, thorough, knowledgeable, attentive, careful, and thoughtful. I initially scheduled an appointment with her because I purchased a coupon deal (can't even remember which coupon company now--it was so long ago), but I continue to schedule more appointments with her because she does such a great job. She was my first acupuncturist so I did not realize how good she was until I saw another very popular acupunturist in downtown Austin. I had a really terrible experience with the other practitioner (she left multiple welts and bruises on my body). I only go to Kit now because she is gentle and, more importantly, effective. I also go to her for cupping and massage sessions when I need postural corrections. I highly recommend her to anyone seeking acupuncture, acupressure, cupping, or herbal medicine advice. I have learned a lot from Kit and trust her to improve my health and well-being. read more

I've been seeing Lynn for my "massage" sessions. However, Lynn does much more than just give you a massage, unless that's all you want. She'll do the usual interview, get to know what you do for a living, and, as is my situation, start to work on the areas of the body that you never thought needed addressing, but, as the old song goes, are all "connected". Eventually, she reaches the problem area (my left shoulder), and almost like magic, the pain/discomfort are gone or seriously reduced. She told me once that someone referred to it as "voodoo"! lol.... I highly recommend you see Lynn for any body work. You will NOT be disappointed!! read more

Well i have a pinched nerve in my shoulder making sitting at work pretty unbearable. Dragonfly is close by so I made an appointment during my lunch break to attempt to get some relief. The road in front is completely torn up so it took an extra 10 mins to try to figure out how to get to the place and then I arrived and NO ONE WAS THERE. I knocked, I waited as long as my appointment was supposed to be for and then I drove back to work both missing my lunch break and still in a lot of pain. Thanks for nothing. read more

If you want a traditional massage, go elsewhere! Pretty much everything Andrea said is exactly how my experience went. I had a Groupon--booking an appointment took MONTHS and I could never actually speak to a person. Emails to the center generated a stock response email saying that the Groupon was really for acupuncture, the massage was just a secondary option. Ok---except the Groupon advertised it as a "90 minute massage or acupuncture session." Overall the experience was less than satisfactory. Lynn talked the entire time, gave anatomy lessons--complete with textbook and pictures--to show me how I was 'unbalanced' (add your own joke here). I've tried to read up on this Critz technique she uses, but haven't really found anything that tells me exactly how it's beneficial. Mostly it was just her holding a pressure point and I was supposed to feel something release. Didn't happen. I bought the same Groupon for a friend, and he had the same issues. Hard time getting an appointment, not able to speak to a person on the phone, did not get a massage, but rather this 'balancing' session. My wife and I have been seeing both Kit and Lynne for several years on a as needed basis, probably 5-6 times a year. When I go, I usually see Kit followed by an appointment with Lynne. They have together managed to eliminate severe back pain on my part and my wife's frozen shoulder. At 70 it is surprising to find a business that seems to truly care about their customers. They make every effort to see us, even at the last minute without berating us for not planning ahead. Yes, I have had to wait a couple of times, but they have also been waiting on me due to traffic a few times. My family including my two boys have been very pleased with our results. read more

I used a sort of customer appreciation certificate and was able to make an appointment online quite easily. At first the location was a little difficult to find, but when I arrived I was greeted politely and taken back promptly. My appointment was with Otter and I only needed 30 minutes on my back and shoulders since I strained the muscles during a new exercise routine. Otter asked a few questions to get a better idea of the problem I was having and as soon as my session began I felt relaxed. Otter did a fantastic job relieving the pain in my shoulders and she even took the time to show me some stretches to help prevent any tension during future exercises. For the first time in days I can raise my arms straight up above my head, such a relief! I will definitely be going back to the Dragonfly Wellness Center and I'm even interested in trying acupuncture! I definitely recommend this place! read more

I needed to get a massage while I was in Austin and I found Dragonfly through Google. The first surprise was that unlike a massage where you just flop down - Lynne analyzed my body and pointed out a number of issues - for example how working incorrectly on the computer was showing up in my body and what the fix was. The worked on my body in a different way than my deep tissue masseuse would - whatever she did - some of the chronic issues have gone away today!! This Groupon purchase was a waste of money for me. It was very frustrating to book an appointment, as there was no way to contact by phone, and the lead time for online appointments was months out. I could have overlooked this if the massage was decent, but it wasn't. Instead of a typical deep tissue or Swedish massage, the therapist just sat and held one position at a time. Didn't feel relaxing like a Swedish nor did it help knots like a deep tissue. Felt stressed and frustrated the whole time. After going to to the center and experiencing it myself I was very surprised with the reviews I read. If I read them before, I probably wouldn't have gone. But my experience was wonderful. I got a 60 min traditional Swedish massage and I was easily able to book it online. The staff was very nice and the therapist made sure I was relaxed and comfortable. The location is a little out of the way and the prices are a little more than I would usually spend on a massage, but if you have any health issues, it's worth going to them. I went to see Lynne after a referral from Texas Orthopedics. I was in a car accident and could not move my neck left to right. After the first session I was able to move it. Do not go here for massage therapy that requires a massage therapist to use their hands to soothe muscle ache or pain. I bought a 90 minute massage Groupon to Dragonfly in order to receive massage therapy for a medically diagnosed muscle spasm/inflammation. I listed this medical situation in my appointment request and waited patiently for a month to go to my appointment (because it takes this long to get an appointment since the owner, Lynn, is the only massage therapist. She employs one other friend who administer acupuncture.) And, there is no way to speak to a person you can only communicate through the online Genbook receptionist. I re-iterated this medically diagnosed muslce tension and pointed it out, upon beginning my massage therapy session and I left with additional stress and tension. I patiently heard Lynn out as she explained that she does not subscribe to the "hollywood" form of massage where inexperienced people rub you with lotion" and instead believes in giving "muscle assessments" to determine what her customers need. She explained that most customers don't know what they are feeling or not feeling and she is able to determine this.There is no need to unclothe at all for the appointment. She lightly pinched some of my joints with the tips of her fingers and recited every single muscle and bone she has ever read about in an anatomy and physiology book. Go to Dragonfly if you want an anatomy lesson, not a massage. FYI: Lynn is very quick to let you know there are no refunds, no matter your dissatisfaction as a customer. read more

I came to see Kit for acupuncture and was blown away at how thorough her intake process was. She discovered more about me and my state of wellness than my doctor ever attempted. She explains EVERYTHING and writes down all suggestions to follow. Her style of acupuncture was different than all others I had experienced. She stayed with me in the room and monitored how I was doing as opposed to leaving me alone for 20+ minutes. Her knowledge is extensive and it's clear she loves her work and continues to keep herself educated.
