I was visiting Boston and did some research of highly rated coffee shops, Gracenote Coffee was top pick and near me! I live in LA and as a pastime visit lots of coffee shops and enjoy good espresso and atmosphere. I was disappointed and extremely underwhelmed by the coffee, they don't have vanilla syrup and the steamer was broken so no hot coffee. The baristas were not friendly or helpful with the coffee choices or modifications, I ended up having an espresso tonic which is my favorite drink and it was strong but yummy. read more

My mom ordered a wet cappuccino: classic latte art that was nice to look at, perfect foam, very light rounded espresso flavor throughout due to the extra foam my mom likes. I enjoyed this hot drink on a cold day like today. I do wish there were a bit more coffee bags and the tasting notes/info/source was a bit bigger more direct on the bag kind if how jejes bags are but this is just a very minor preference. Flavors range from floral to caramel to mushroomy depending on the beans that are available, and everything from espresso to cortado to latte is magnificent. This is one of my new favorite to-go coffee shops in the city. The barista are super friendly and make some delicious drinks. This time around I got the Flannel latte and it was super rich, creamy, and sweet all while not overpowering the coffee. They also sell whole beans that you can enjoy at home (they're my boyfriend's favorite). Just a heads up, seating is extremely limited so I would expect to take your drink to go. read more

My husband ordered the cardamom latte with house made cashew milk and I ordered the Hawaii Five Ow, a seasonal drink. The cardamom latte was interesting and had a strong spice flavor, almost bitter. This cafe kind of blends in with other buildings nearby but this cafe is a great find! It is small inside with minimal seating so it is more of a grab and go situation. The service is great and they definitely make your drink with care. I got a regular iced matcha with oat milk (they don't have almond milk) and a regular iced coffee. Their matcha is so yummy and rich and it has a good sweetness to it already. The iced coffee is definitely strong and fresh and they have a self service area for you to add in sugar as you like it. Service was awful...and incompetent! We walked in having never gone there before and instinctively walked to the register like you do at most coffee bars. There were a couple of other customers in there including a family, but considering the size of the shop we couldn't tell if they were waiting for their drinks or in line. We were rudely directed to stand on the other side of the room as if we should have known. The family in front of us tried ordering their child a hot chocolate, they explained though that the child had a nut allergy (there's a sign telling you to disclose any allergies), the staff told them that because they had already steamed cashew milk today they couldn't make her drink nut free. They were told to go elsewhere for their child's drink....as a former barista I was astonished. Directly telling a customer to go elsewhere because you choose not to clean your wands is not only unsanitary but pure idiocy. Once we made it to the front I ordered a decaf oat milk mocha. I understand that this is more than one modification, but is frankly nothing abnormal or unexpected in a coffee shop. I watched them proceed to make my drink with whole milk, thus I repeated my order to them. One of the baristas proceeded to thank me and tell me that was helpful...and to no one's surprise proceeded to make the drink incorrect!! And for the cherry on top, another customer came in and asked about what syrups they have available, rather than telling her, the barista on the register (1/3 people working in a 75 sq ft building, doing absolutely nothing) rudely told her to read the menu, and continued to persist that she read it rather than just telling her. I'm tremendously frustrated and disappointed that I even bothered to leave a three dollar tip on my overpriced drink that was made incorrect. If you have any allergies do not go here! read more

After an arrival to South Station, we took our luggage and ourselves over to Gracenote just a few blocks away. I read online this hidden gem was worth the visit, and out of all the coffee shops we dabbled in throughout our Boston trip, Gracenote was it. The shop's aesthetic gave me hipster, artistic vibes. I came here today at 12/29 to grab a morning pick me up. The two girls working behind the counter were SO FRIENDLY. They truly deserve a shoutout just for the hospitality and welcoming atmosphere. I finally made it! Gracenote has been on my list of coffee roasters to visit for the longest time, ever since I learned that Nine Bar in Davis uses their beans. Gracenote is a slip of a place in the financial district, with an airy atmosphere and cool natural wood counters to perch (but no seating). I stopped by on my way to meet a friend near South Station and grabbed a cappuccino with almond milk to have there. I got the house espresso, which was a bit darker than the light roast I expected, but it was still well made and well balanced. The barista was happy to answer my questions about their tea selection and even showed me a new ceremonial matcha that they're experimenting with. If I had had more time, I would've stuck around to chat more. These guys know their coffee and tea. I bought some instant espresso packets to go. Chic wood, tall panes of glass windows, and tons of sunlight from this corner yet. The staff was friendly and attentive to detail. During my short trip to Boston I managed to squeeze in a visit to 10 coffee shops. Gracenote had the best cortado. Hands down! The temperature, the taste of the espresso and the knowledge of the barista were spot on. Gracenote sits right outside China Town in Boston. It's footprint is quite small. When I first walked into the shop I noticed a simple live edge bar that sits along the window. I told the barista that this was my eighth cortado in two days. He laughed and said there is always room in the day for another cortado. I am not going to lie. After that line I was expecting a great drink and he certainly delivered. When he gave me the cortado he said one part espresso and one part steamed milk; just enough milk to break up the bitterness of the espresso. Gracenote also roasts their own coffee beans. The next day I had a cortado at another coffee shop. I told my husband that I liked the taste and it was familiar for some reason. I asked someone at the counter where they got their coffee beans from and they said Gracenote. I would highly recommend Gracenote. read more
