Beacon Hospice was not there at all in the last days of my father's illness. We could not get a…read morenurse or doctor from Beacon to come into the nursing home where my father was to assess his pain. Because we had agreed to palliative care for my father, the nurses at the nursing home could not do anything for pain management without going through Beacon Hospice. The nurses and staff at Beacon were unresponsive to the nursing homes phone calls. When the nursing home finally got someone to call back, the night before my father passed, I took the phone call. I explained to the nurse from Beacon that my father was in pain and I wanted to have someone come to help and administer medication that could help comfort him. The nurse from Beacon had screaming kids in the background and barely gave me the time of day. I was told someone would come the next day. No one came. My father passed that next evening and suffered in the days leading up to his passing. I would caution anyone who agrees to using Beacon Hospice. Especially if your loved one is in a Nursing Home. Once you agree to using them then all administration and approval of testing and medications goes through them instead of directly from the nursing home. All this does is create another layer that you have to go through to get care for your loved one.

He also teaches them how to live in and appreciate the present moment, which leads to a much more fulfilling practice for me and the countless other students in his class. He is very gentle while treating the two younger kids aswell. Our whole family loves to come here and make it an exciting time for the two little ones. We always come in kind of like a hurricane with the kids but they really make us feel comfortable and like we aren't a nuisance to anyone. They lend a helping hand with the youngest too while mom & dad get worked on. They take MassHealth and all those insurances under the Health Connector. I have a PCP here (she's a Nurse Practitioner -- there are a lot of NPs and a couple of MDs), see a psych provider here, see a cardiologist here, and have been to the Nutritionist here. I'm in the Suboxone program and go to group meeting here. Everyone is kind, straight-talking, and it's a non-judgmental zone as there are all kinds of folks here from every walk of life. NO one -- from my PCP to the other docs to my counselors - looks down on me here, talks down to me, or makes me feel like an addict. The care is good, and the staff are "real". I get called for outside quickly. It feels like family here. Even the folks that work here seem to like each other, and down-to-earth, and obviously like their jobs.The only fault is that their phones are good/not good and often have something screwy going on and I get transferred around a lot, but I can deal with it for the good care I get.
