Whilst the main purpose of this place is for outdoor activities for troubled/vulnerable youths and that kind of thing, it's also a great place to stay in hostel terms. Right in the centre of Castleton, 2 miles from Hope station, the accommodation was reasonably priced and pretty good - 6 bunks to a room, with each room having an en-suite shower/toilet plus two sinks. And a decent shower at that. On top of that, the building have a shared lounge / kitchen area. Given we were 25 blokes, the staff seemed pretty relaxed, e.g. nobody complained when we went to the teepee thing on Sat night and started a fire there. They do packed lunches if you're walking up the hill or whatever, as well as catered meals if so desired.

Shortly after I arrived, my coworker told me that the place used to be a mental institution/hospital. I'm not sure how you'd react to that, but I kind of loved it and spent my free working minutes on the web, trying to learn about potentially haunted rooms and ghosts of ol' crazy people. Unfortunately, no paranormal activities at this facility. So instead, I spent my evening in the gym facility, took a spin course, and sweat my butt off. The next day I tried the swimming pool and sauna as well. I was also really pleasantly surprised that the locker rooms were equipped with fantastic hair dryers ... AND ... GHD hair straighteners. Those babies cost a couple hundred euros a piece! The lunch menu on the first day included meat and chilli beans, as well as salmon.. and then of course, some salad and lots of desert. I tried the salmon with chili beans and overdosed on proteins. So so so good. The salmon was really fresh. I ended up ordering salmon for dinner as well. The quality of the food there was really fantastic. So the reason I am giving it 4 stars, instead of 5 is because it was just cold and chilly in there. The front door was kept frequently open and I think the windows aren't properly isolated, so when the temperature drops outside, you feel it right away inside. Other than that - definitely recommended. About 35 minutes from the Manchester Airpoint (36 Pound trip by cab). Give it a try!

It's only 30 mins drive from Manchester airport but ring the hotel direct and they will give you the number for a local hackney firm they use. £40 vrs £70. More beer money for me! P.S. Hackney firm are excellent and picked us up in a brand new Toyota Avensis estate. I digress. Arrived at the hotel which is situated on its own 20 acres grounds and it is a Grade II listed building. Very nice setting. It was a Monday afternoon and the reception staff were all older ladies. Unusual but you knew they knew their stuff. Being Irish we asked when did the bar close? (We have been stung before with venues like this and the bar closing early) and to our great surprise she tells us and I quote "The bar closes when you stop drinking". Hallelujah, did she realise the trouble that was going to be in store.... Now now, we did behave ourselves I promise. P.S. This used to be a mental asylum you know! Decor very tasteful and well appointed. A small bit of a labyrinth but you get to were you are going to in nice surroundings. Room has all the 4 star mod cons, room key is a funny plastic card with holes in that you leave in the lock to open. Requested an Iron and board and had them within 5 mins. Bar nice and spacious. Best thing ever was the free american pool table but had UK sized balls, better than that was the garden sized connect 4 set!! Hours of fun for all the guys at the conference. We had teams from the UK, Ireland and Holland. A great night. Bar food really nice and prices not bad either. I'd recommend the burger with bacon and cheese served with great fries and coleslaw all on a wooden chopping board (they must have broken all the plates, ha ha ). Bar staff during the next day were hard to find and slow but that's because I'm used to Irish bar/pubs speeds. If your slow in Ireland you go out of business fast! Great conference facilities and little touches like bowls of sweets (Drumsticks, Fruit Salad and Love Hearts) during the intervals make all the difference. Breakfast & Lunch in the main restaurant was really good with a large choice. All buffet style but it just meant you got more of what you liked. Nice touch is the area between the bar and main restaurant with a free coffee/tea station and bowls of more sweets, apples, bags of crisps etc. These guys know how to look after a business conference. Will be pushing for more training and conferences here.

Blame my coworker for asking if I'm a poet today, but I had a nice relaxing last evening in the UK here at Borough Arms. It's an older place, yes. Elevators, no. But I don't mind a good stair climb. The room was very clean, nothing looked "dated" except some of the fonts around the lobby, everything worked properly and I had a nice quiet night of sleep. Parking was easy to find and free for guests. Just a couple of notes: * It is, indeed, a rather confusing place to navigate on the lobby level. The lobby will help walk you through it. * Restaurant is closed Sunday evenings. You'll have to walk elsewhere. * Wi-fi wasn't the best in room, which was common for me on this trip. In short, you get a great value right downtown in a nice neighborhood. Do give them a go.

My bed was very uncomfortable (springs digging in me through the mattress) and the bathroom had black mould in the tiles (surely a bit of bleach could make a difference?) there is no lift here too so if you are disabled dont even think of staying here as all the bedrooms are one floor up. the breakfast was edible and ok for a 3 star.

The receptionist was very nice and helpful with our check in. They do not have an elevator, but the receptionist went above and beyond and helped me out with my luggage to the second floor. The room was clean and the bed comfy. It does not come with breakfast (I don't know if UK believes in continental breakfast), but they do have a little restaurant inside the hotel. When we were about to check out, the receptionist even offered to call a taxi for us, which was pretty convenient and charged probably about the same price than Uber.

It's really close to the train station and airport, plus for the cost the amenities were better…read morethan average. Also has a restaurant attached and once inside the rooms, you can't hear the airplanes go by anymore with the sound proofing. Didn't have any elevators available but for what I paid for, I consider this place a worthy bargain.

We thought it would also be a great place to go in Summer with a big group of friends - as there would be nice places for bbqs A number of the cabins (ours included) had it's own sauna and spa bath which was fantastic. The other facilities were great in the cabin too - the kitchen was well equiped. It had a nice lounge area with DVD player, hi fi etc. Also on site, there is a nice pub and an indoor pool complex with health and beauty centre. There is also crazy golf, short tennis and tennis. You can hire equipment from the reception area. I think you can also hire bikes though we didn't do this. I would really recommend as it was great value for a short break and there are lots of places nearby worth a visit. Very relaxing place!!

It can get crowded in the gym and pool when the park is full…read more They have 120 odd cabbins and the pool only holds 50 people. If you are staying on the park everything costs extra, even the electicity for your cabbin. Best thing about Darwin is the location, in the middle of a wood it is beautiful, and the staff are always ready to have a chat and offer advice about the area.

Kedleston Hall is a stately mansion a few miles from Derby. The best ways to get there are by car…read moreor by bus (Bus No.114 to Ashbourne from Derby), the latter stops right next to the building. ATTENTION: The tickets for a visit to the house are being sold in the small ticket booth adjacent to the car park! Not inside the house itself! Kedleston Hall might not be as spectacular as some other family-owned mansions in England (Castle Howard in Yorkshire comes to mind!), but it is well worth a short trip. The rooms have all been restored to their 18th/19th century glory, and there are enough of them to keep you occupied for about an hour and a half. See my photos. Once you're done with the house, don't forget to visit the small church attached to it. It's very beautiful indeed. And you should definitely stroll through the large garden area in good weather, a fine place to unwind. The entry price (UKP 15 for an adult) is a bit steep, I must admit, but there are family options available. In the side wing you will find a small café with outside seating that offers scones and other typical English tea time niceties, and also some small meals.
