For a small business that literally took an abandoned property and rebooted it, this place is cool. Looks like it would be a heck of a place to heat in the winter though. Very fun aesthetic. The lady at the bar was friendly. The owner was okay...for there only being two customer vehicles here and just the other two customers besides us it was kind of a cold welcome. Worth a stop though for some snacks and good mead! My wife and I spent the day hiking at the nearby Otter River, so this was a welcome stop. I bought a 16oz etched glass bottle of Mazer mead, and another of the "Master" flavor. As somebody who has made hundreds of gallons of my own mead, the flavors were really unique. Varying alcohol content too if you're looking for something heavier (or lighter). I wouldn't suggest buying more than one "growler", as they were just etched glass bottles. Having grown up raising honey bees, it's really cool to see a place like this where the mission is to endorse honey and happy times with the mead bees help make. Honestly, can't say enough good things about this quirky, curated spot on the shoulders of Sharp Top Mountain. John Graham is a thoughtful host who has carved out a unique place among roadside inns. The Ordinary calls to a time of self-catered stays, where the point was not to dazzle you with breakfast, but to provide you with a beautiful spot where personal touches abound in the rebuilt 1790s cabin to stop and enjoy the world around you. Your private deck view sweeps down into the valley below the Peaks of Otter, taking in John's butterfly garden and personal beehives. Oh, he also runs a meadery out of the inn--lucky weekend guests get to sample and take home his fantastic products (careful, though, at 17% ABV, they pack a sneaky punch). If you plan on spending time in the Blue Ridge, skip the chain hotels and find Graham's Ordinary. Your spirit will be glad you did. read more

My husband and I loved our 3 night stay. Everything was comfortable and the view was beautiful. The whole atmosphere of the building as well as the King suite was one of rustic comfort. The hosts stocked the fridge and counter with breakfast type foods which my husband enjoyed (I have to eat gluten free) and the coffee selection was excellent. John, one of the hosts, was always responsive when we reached out to him with questions or concerns. We loved that the weather cooperated so we could sit inside or outdoors on the deck to enjoy the nature around us. We would DEFINITELY stay here again! read more

What a great stay! The rooms are large with beautiful views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Each room has a great little breakfast bar with coffee and provisions. John and his family are friendly and happy to share the history of the Ordinary and the meadery. The mead is delicious! We loved enjoying a glass out on the porch overlooking the mountains. This place is amazing. The food was spectacular. It had such a good Smokey flavor. The view from the building was beautiful. It overlooked the valley and at night you could see the lights from the city below. It had such a cozy atmosphere. The rooms are so nice and spacious and they provide so many goodies in them. We came up there for a birthday and they were so sweet and attentive. The mead was amazing. Each had such a unique flavor. Honestly it was the best place I've been in a while. I even bought one of their sweatshirts and I've told everyone about them. If you're looking for a nice secluded getaway in the mountains this is your place. read more
