There is also a lounge for resident's use. On arrival, we were bought tea and shortbread. The dining room is beautiful and has a large piano in it. Would HIGHLY recommend. Slightly more pricey than other B&B's, @ £33pp, but well worth the money.

We drove to the north from Edinburgh and decided to find a place to stay in Newtonmore. All B&Bs from our AA's guide were either booked out or closed. It was a rainy late afternoon, and then we crossed the Balavil Hotel. We didn't plan to stay in hotels, but this one looked like a cute guest house. So we entered. The guy at the reception was uber friendly and really funny. Of course they had a room for us he said, and also one with two single beds. The rate: £35 per person, including breakfast. Awesome! The hotel is quite old, but it totally matches the cute town of Newtonmore. Staying in a fancy new hotel would have been weird. The room was nice and clean, and the beds comfy. There's a bar in the lobby with a local ale on tap and some other scottish beers, and obviously Guinness. They also serve food I believe, we dined out though. After dinner we had a couple of beers and it was really cosy. Breakfast is served in the spacious dining room next to the lobby. It's buffet style, toast and coffee is served by the waitress. The food was okay, nothing very special. The breakfast is probably the hotels weakest part, but it was fine. A big plus: free WiFi for all guests! I would stay again.

I was a little uncertain what to expect when I stayed here recently, my expectations were a little negative as I worried that it would be cold in the chalet and that the standard of cleanliness would be lacking however I couldn't have been more wrong. We received a very warm welcome on arrival from Morag (the owner) and shown to our chalet, there are 6 at present however they are plans to build a couple more. My worries were dismissed instantly, although compact, the chalet offered everything that we needed what's more it was lovely and toasty and very clean and tidy. The kitchen is well equipped with full cooker and microwave, the sitting room offers free view and a dvd player, we didn't even need to take a travel cot or high chair as these were provided. We had a lovely 4 nights here and would heartily recommend a visit.

It was easy to park, as there is a car park behind the hotel, and it was easy to get in and to find a seat. They have a dining area, as well as the bar for bar meals. The decor is alright, nothing fancy, but it is clean and well kept. The staff are lovely, very nice, and chirpy. Will chat away with no problems. The portions of the meals you receive is a fair size, value for money, and are delicious. All the produce is local. I never normally take haggis when i'm out, but boy there haggis was out of this world, with a beautiful whiskey sauce. I loved it. The National Hotel is very popular and has many functions here, from weddings, birthday and engagement parties, to funeral teas. The service is outstanding, and I'd recommend it to anyone.

It's listed as "Continental" but this is incorrect. It's a full breakfast and you can eat enough that all you need for lunch is a scone! Fresh fruit, cereal, a variety of breads, cold meats and cheeses, eggs and bacon cooked to order, French press coffee. All served in a sunny pleasant dining area. Hosts Lorna and Stuart are the nicest people and so accommodating! They have had the business for 20 years. They have really beautified the house and have made it so comfortable.

The sore feet sculpture is situated outside the hotel signifying the end of the West highland way so there is always a few tourists outside the hotel. The hotel beds were comfortable, the shower powerful, tea and coffee facilities in the room, our room was large and spacious. The walls are a bit thin but we weren't disturbed and we had a very pleasant stay. Would highly recommend!
