The host is a nice lady and it was a real pleasure for me to be her guest. She prepared us delicious breakfast in the morning and made up the rooms later on during the day. She even catered for my dietary needs without asking her which was a happy surprise for me. The rooms are reasonably sized, comfortable, clean and bright. each room has access to a private bathroom. There is a large salon on the ground floor opposite the dining room where the tasty breakfast is served every morning. I enjoyed my two stays at Kinnaird Country House and I wouldn't hesitate to stay again there if I was required to visit Pitlochry for a third time.

The glen itself is breathtaking and serendipitous, you won't hear anything except for the sheep, the birds and the odd car. The rooms are well furnished, the bed was comfortable and cozy, the showers are sparkling clean and packed with soaps, shampoos and lotions, and the water pressure is amazing, something not to be taken for granted in B&Bs. The full Scottish breakfast is, indeed, quite full. You get free-range eggs from the local hens, sausages and black pudding from the local butcher, jams, juices, fruit, yoghurt - everything you could think of. The Staff are super friendly and helpful. if you need help they are more or less easy to get hold of. The back cabins are nice and private. Pretty cosy too. The house is decorated with stunning photographs and artwork of wildlife - always something new that destracts me! We've just returned from our second stay for two nights and enjoyed it as much, if not more, than our first! Our first stay was in one of the chalets at the back of the property which are probably a little more spacious than one of the front bedrooms we stayed in this time around, but never-the-less, both rooms and en-suites are stylishly decorated, very comfortable, well equipped and very clean. The plus to staying in a room (No.5) at the front of the house is that you get a wonderful view of the Cairngorm Mountains a real treat as the sun sets and also again when you open the blinds first thing in the morning! Beds are not as firm as we'd prefer (personal preference I'm sure many like a slightly softer mattress would have no problem at all), but still comfortable and the bedlinen is good quality which all goes a long way towards a very good night's sleep and a restful stay. Breakfast offers a wide choice great range of cereals, fresh fruit, fruit salad, white & wholemeal toast and Jonathan's homemade marmelade try it, it's truly delicious! We also tried the delicious (and none greasy) full traditional Scottish breakfast (with plenty of flexibility to accomodate all diets and tastes!), Poached eggs (eggs not laid by the chickens in the outside pen, but we were confidently assured were local & free range) and smoked salmon on muffins (a lovely, tasty way to start the day!), alternatively the homemade porridge with berry fruit compote, seeds, honey or plain is also a real treat and will certainly set you up for a day's exploring and activity! The lounge with it's open fire (lit in the colder months), cosy rugs, antique style furniture, plus welcoming resident cat Milly(!), make for a great place to relax and chill out either after breakfast or after a day's skiing, hiking or cycling! Overall a very welcoming place to stay in a charming traditional style house which is very restful and relaxing with delicious breakfasts. You couldn't wish for anymore from a B&B!

We've stayed in a few MacDonald hotels now and have a good idea of what to expect…read more The best thing about this hotel (which is rather sprawling as it offers self-catering lodges and apartments in addition to the main hotel) is its location - on the shores of Loch Rannoch surrounded by stunning scenery. Naturally we had one of the very few rooms in the hotel that doesn't have a loch view! However, the room was very spacious with a separate seating area and space to watch television from the sofa. Although overall the hotel is of a good standard there were a few wee snags - the television only receives terrestrial channels (& only 3 of them when we were there), some of the decor is looking rather tired and the gym/pool facilities could also benefit from some attention. The bar is pleasant and all the staff were as helpful as could be.
