Nice location, friendly staff but outrageously expensive. There is (only one) set menu which is easy for the kitchen and should allow for quick serving. The menu consists of 5 tiny dishes which will set you back 49 EURO. A wine pairing (French wines only) costs an additional 40 EURO. Each additional dish (e.g. cheese) costs 10 EURO extra. What they fail to tell you however is that they serve additional wines of 11 EURO a glass with the extra dishes (without asking). On top of that they dare to ask 13 EURO for a liter of sparkling water (very ordinary Belgian Bru) and 15 EURO for a gin and tonic. None of these prices are indicated on the menu, so you can not prepare yourself for the shock of almost 135 EURO per person! After protest the price was reduced to 120 EURO per person.
So was the food and wine at least good? No, they were very average. The ingredients were all of good quality but that does not necessarily make for a good menu. The menu was totally focused on proteins (fish and meat) and hardly any vegetables. The only carbon hydrates came from (good) bread. In addition the overall menu was far too sour to my liking (emphasized by the choice of wines) and the tastes were not in balance (nothing bitter, nothing crunchy). The individual dishes are very simple and of varying quality. The guinea fowl was tender and tasty. The sea bass (as said in the menu, but the texture seemed different) was overcooked and dry with a boring kurkumasauce that was way too runny. The inventive tzazikidesert was spoiled by big lumps of water crystals.
Despite the fact that the kitchen only serves 7 different dishes, the wait between the dishes was quite long. During those waits the staff left the wine bottle on the table, as compensation for the long wait an unassuming customer might think. But no, each drop of extra wine will be billed. I personally dislike such a strategy to squeeze every EUROcent out of a customer. Overall I was disappointed about Gramm. There are better alternatives in the same neighbourhood, like San (across the street, same concept, much better executed), Vismet and Little Asia. read more
