I like Gran Caffe Roma. However, it's not your typical "Roma" experience. So, just know that. This café is located on a beautiful, canopied street with some really good hotels and a few blocks down from the American Embassy. I was staying at The Grand Hotel Palace down the street. (By the way... great hotel) I wanted a simple lunch, outside, with standard food fare, within walking distance of my hotel, that I could pay for with my Visa. Whaaa laaa.... Gran Caffe Roma. This café caters to an American crowd. The portions are larger than other cafes. We shared a pizza and Caesar Salad. Delicious. Good varieties of wine. Spaghetti looked amazing as well as the Caprese Salad. Strawberry Gelato was FANTASTIC. Waiter was overrun but as sweet as could be. I don't know if the tip was included in the bill, like many places in Europe but we tipped separately because he really did his best while catering to so many tourists. read more

We went here for pizza and a beer. It was fairly close to the hotel and my husband thought it looked like it might be a good place to go eat. We were a bit disappointed. The service was mediocre at best and the pizza was not very good. We ordered the pizza with the ham and artichoke and egg and mushrooms. The crust was soggy while the top seemed over cooked. My mouth was tired from chewing. It seemed as if we were disturbing the staff when we asked for something more, like another beer. They never asked how we were doing or if we needed anything. My husband and I ate breakfast here on our first morning in Rome. We were pretty late to the game (noon) and wanted some quick food. It was a very "American" breakfast but it was a lot of food for about 14 euros each. The continental breakfast came with toast, yogurt, coffee, orange juice, fruit salad, and cornflakes. While this is just standard stuff, it wasn't too tasty, the fruit salad was just alright, the coffee was good, and the yogurt wasn't great, it was just a good value. I was so pleasantly surprised by this place! We stopped after trekking around the ruins and decided to "settle" for this place since it was literally the only restaurant on the block we were on. I assumed the food would be subpar given the location, but I was proven wrong. The waiter was the most impressive thing about this experience! I ordered a lunch special that included a margarita pizza, small drink, bruschetta, and a cappuccino for €15. My husband ordered a pancetta pizza for €12. I asked for my cappuccino at the end of my meal, and sure enough, he remembered to bring it as soon as I'd finished eating - and they were packed. He also spoke fluent English, French, and Italian. As for the food, the pizzas were very good. The bruschetta was gross (just bread with raw tomatoes and a drizzle of olive oil), and the cappuccino was delicious. read more

Grabbed a sandwich to-go here considering I was going to stand in line for tickets and I was hungry. The service wasn't the greatest since I wanted to know what they recommend but the lady in the back just rushed me and gave the attitude and told me just to choose. I just picked a random sandwich and it turned out to be fairly good. But because of the service and the length of time I stood there waiting for her (another customer that was waiting left because she took too long), gave this place three stars. read more

Nice menu, decent food. It was empty when I arrived, full when I left. Service was ok, the waiter checked with me asking if I was ready for the next dish or wanted more time. He let me set a pace, I was really there to watch the locals and tourists wander by. That could be its best attribute, it's between a number of good hotels, The Majestic, The Westin, for example and the Triton Fountain, so a lot of people walk by. I ordered the Bruschetta, Prosciutto e melone, and the Spaghetti allo scoglio (seafood). Decent food, with an espresso, €34. The bruschetta was toasted and warm, the tomatoes tasty. The melone was sweet and a great compliment to the prosciutto. Not too much seafood in the spaghetti, a few muscles, some squid and a shrimp. Very tasty. read more

We stopped in the Gran Caffe Roma for a light snack right after our visit to the Museum Capitolini just up the hill and across the street. The 3 of us ordered a coffee, water, beer and a tiramisu desert. They brought a bowl of chips with my beer. Terrible service and worst of all frozen pizza crust at a high end restaurant in the middle of Rome's posh district. What a shame. Fettuccini Bolognese barely had any ground beef in the tomato sauce and seemed like half a portion for 9.50 euros. Cute outdoor restaurant, we sat outside under the tree lined street! Service wasn't anything to write home to mom about, but we all still enjoyed our meals. I got the Fettuccine Bolognese - highly recommend it! My mother got the Salmon salad, and it came out raw, which she wasn't expecting - so she won't be coming back here for that again. We were so excited to eat here because the neighborhood around it was so nice! Don't eat here, food is not Italian- only bad meal we've had in 2 weeks. Canned sauce for multiple dishes of pasta (were a party of 6), dirty glasses; food was stuck on our silverware and we had to send it back. The bowl that the salad was in was chipped around the sides. Came with a group of six and we all enjoyed our food and drinks, husband said his iced cappuccino was the best he's had on our trip (and he orders a couple every day.) Outdoor area was perfectly pleasant, even had mister fans which was much appreciated. The main reason I took the time to write a review, though, was we finally had excellent service! Stumbled into this restaurant when walking around town. I had the cacio e pepe (which a tour guide had recommended as a dish to try when here) and my husband ordered a Cesar salad (because he usually has to help finish mine). The food was so good that I ate my whole serving but my husband was not upset as his salad was fairly large and yummy as well. Complete disclosure though: this was my first and only time having cacio e pepe so I cannot compare it to other places but I would definitely have loved to have time for a return trip read more

Service was terrible. Even though they have both pepper and pepperoni on their menu, the waiter clearly did not know the difference. We were charged 3 euro for water that looked like it was from the tap. Limited vegetable options on the menu, and no substitutions were allowed.
