It pains me to write this, but i bought a $15 cigar from this place for Mardi Gras because it was close to my apt in Soulard. The place has been around a while and surely i wasn't the only one buying a cigar for Mardi Gras...? I usually go to Hill Cigar. This $15 cigar (~$16-$17 after tax) IMMEDIATELY split open, the outer wrap completely falling off, absolutely terrible and couldn't even smoke a quarter of it. And there goes $17 that i will never see again. Great spot to hang and smoke cigars, a decent staff, but a TERRIBLE humidor, with a small selection. And my experience is not a good look as my friends were laughing at the garbage cigar I bought. Do better. read more

Great selection of non-mainstream brands. I often go with those that are flavored and was happy to see a nice selection of lighter and flavored sticks. This place offers 2 sides for seating. 1 area which is a tighter space and 1 area which is more open and is more like a garage. We pulled a table and a few chairs over to the side where the door lifted which allowed for great air circulation and prevented our clothes from becoming overwhelmed with smoke. There is a selection of non-alcoholic beverages you can purchase, but otherwise it's BYOB and BYOF. Nice location in Soulard. read more

In the two short weeks that this wonderful cigar shop has been open, I have already been in there four times. This gorgeous new cigar shop is nestled in the historic Soulard neighborhood. The shop features an intimate lounge area with several comfortable leather chairs. The humidor looks like it could be an art piece. It is well stocked with various boutique cigar brands as well as other cigars that are not easily found in the area. The prices are in line with or cheaper than most of the shops in the area. They have a wide array of electronic cigarette options, as well as a growing selection of pipes and tobacco. The staff is super friendly and quick to offer a suggestion or recommendation. However if you wish to just browse on your own they don't hover, which is very nice. If you happen to be in the St. Louis area, I strongly suggest you check out Gran Cru Cigars. Cute little shop. Cozy and welcoming. They mainly sell cigars from boutique cigar brands. The staff was super-friendly and knowledgeable. It was easy to tell that he really enjoyed helping people pick out a good cigar to their taste and price range. As a woman going in alone, I felt welcomed and not patronized. Some shops treat women as unwelcome, leeringly and/or stupid. I did not feel that way at all at Gran Cru. It was a great experience from the time I set foot in the shop till the time we finished our last cigar from there. read more

Occupying the old office side of the former "Soulard Mardi Gras Inc" warehouse, the space received a complete makeover and is now a comfortable lounge with beautiful bamboo flooring, deep leather loungers and a massive custom-built walk-in humidor shipped up from the cigar pros in Florida. That alone is worth a visit, cigar smoker or not! BYOB (yes, you may), buy a stogie or 3 and sit back for hours and relax with your cigar pals in deep leather lounge furniture. There's a refrigerator for you to chill your bevs and keep your ice and the cleanest bathroom you'll find in a public facility in the city. On pleasant weekend afternoons/nights, expect the garage door to be raised for larger groups to enjoy a "smoker" feeling. The owners suggest they will be hosting cigar-centric events, like Cigar 101 class or "pairings" where industry reps propose cigar/scotch/whiskey match-ups. They may even put Sunday NFL up on their massive projection screen. Whether a cigar aficionado or novice, the staff will get you set up and make you feel at home. Before you know it, you'll be blowing rings and talking like one of Tony Soprano's crew. My friends tried this place out last Thursday and begged me to come this week. They had a blast and thought I would enjoy it. They were right. Outside the place looks unassuming. There is one sign outside that says Gran Cru... and when you walk up to the door, you're not really sure you're in the right place. Walk inside and you'll find a handful of people sitting in comfortable chairs puffing on their tobacco. At first it's a little intimidating since you're swimming through cigar smoke... but the owner is usually there and he'll greet you and is really excited to show newbies around. There's a huge humidor, all kinds of smoking tools and gadgets and small kitchen for you to heat up food or store your liquor... it's BYOB. My friends were in the back room... which is a converted warehouse. But there is a large 90" TV screen that was showing the football game and random tables and chairs. Most importantly, the back room doesn't feel as smoke oppressive as the first room. I let the owner pick out my cigar and he came back with a honey laced stogie... smooth, sweet, and mild. It was around $5. My cigar aficionado friends let me know his prices were very fair. I settled in with a bottle of bourbon, and some popcorn that a friend of mine brought and we watched the game. It was like being in our own little man-cave. We had a blast in Soulard for under $20 and vowed to each other to be back next week. With all the hubbub of hookah shops popping up everywhere, I see this as a nice alternative... and I don't know of any other competiton in Soulard. If you're into the cigar thing, give them a shot. read more

One of my FAVOURITE Cigar stops to pick up a few sticks, the staff is ALWAYS friendly and are extremely knowledgeable, it's like He reads your AURA and can pair a cigar to match "YOU". I used to go by myself, but then started taking my Wife with in with me, and she became a quick fan. Well, what's a Tobacconist without a GREAT selection, and Gran Cru surely has a wonderful selection , from the subtle creamy smoke Churchill to a Vibrant Peppery Maduro, they surely have it. Well, we were on our way home and noticed that the lights were on in this place so we took a chance and headed in. When you first walk in....there may be a lot of people sitting around in arm chairs smokin' cigars. You might think this is a private party of some sort....but this is a normal night. You will be greeted right away by Jimmy the owner....and most likely many others just sittin' around. FYI....I know NOTHING about cigars and I can BARELY smoke one....lol. My hubby is really into many things of quality and would love to learn more about cigars and the various types so Jimmy gave him a mini tour and showed him all sorts of cigars. Jimmy is not pretentious or snobby and you can really tell that he just wants to share his love and knowledge of cigars. Hubby found a couple cigars that he wanted to try and we settled in w/ the others to hang out and relax. This is not ONLY a guy hangout either....all are welcome and you will feel right at home. There is also a large area in the back where you could bring a group of friends and hang out. There is a stage in there as well. This is such a great place to relax, talk, and enjoy a good cigar or two. The staff is knowledgeable, the TVs typically have on a good game, and the chairs are comfy. It's a BYOB sorta place, and that's a huge perk. I love being able to bring some whisky or a couple beers to enjoy with a cigar. This place is a winner. Gran Cru is right off the main drag of Russsell in Soulard and it is a neighborhood kind of joint. Most the people there are regulars and know each other but they are very welcoming and friendly. They make sure to say hi to you and make you feel at home. The owners are great too! Soulard needed a place like this. It is a cigar bar that is BYOB and the ambiance is excellent. Inside is the walk in humidor filled with plenty of cigars to choose from. I am not much of a cigar smoker but tried a few puffs of some of the ones my friends bought and they were good, especially the acid ones. Also set up inside are leather chairs to sit back, relax, enjoy conversation or watch TV. Next to the main room is a garage/warehouse space. We have been there twice and have sat in the garage/warehouse space both times. It is a huge room set up with tables, chairs and a GIANT TV. We went there to watch the Super Bowl and it was a blast. Everyone bought their cigars and sipped on our own drinks/food while watching the game. It was a great atmosphere. If you are looking to get away from the normal Soulard scene, check out Gran Cru for a cigar and good company. You won't be disappointed. Finally, a cigar shop in Soulard! This wonderful cigar shop is a great addition to the neighborhood and something my boyfriend has been looking forward to for quite some time. I enjoy the occasional cigar, but the typical cigar shops can sometimes be a bit intimidating and stuffy. This is NOT the case at Gran Cru! I was treated as though I was just one of the guys and felt right at home. The owners and staff are extremely friendly, fun, knowledgable and passionate about their business and helping customers. The humidor is beautiful, classy and well stocked with what my boyfriend calls the "microbrews of cigars". These are very high quality cigars, some of which are quite difficult to find elsewhere. They'll gladly help you find the perfect cigar for your taste. I use to just get one of their coffee cigars that I just love (I know, total chick cigar), but I've started to be more adventurous. Im so happy that I finally ventured out b/c I've found some awesome cigars that I like much more. My boyfriend mixes it up all the time and is never disappointed. The inside has comfortable leather chairs and decor that creates the perfect smoking atmosphere. There is even a back room with ample seating. They have numerous events throughout the month, as well as usually play the big games on their huge projector in the back room and on the TVs in the main area. When you consider the always pleasant and fun regular Gran Cru patrons who just enjoy hanging out, this is a perfect place to watch the games, have a post dinner cigar or purchase some great brands to stock your own humidor. My boyfriend has found his second home. Honestly, he spends a good amount of time here and just LOVES everything about it. He'll just swing by after work or really anytime just to hang out and smoke. Visited Gran Cru for the first time today after recently learning about it. The experience was A+. Staff is exceptionally friendly and helpful. Selection varies from every price range and they feature quite an array of brands that other shops don't. It was nice to try something new and different. This is a really cool shop in the historic Soulard district. When you walk in, you're in the lounge that may appear small at first especially if there's a crowd, but they have a huge party lounge area in the back. BYOB, food welcome and several businesses in the area deliver. The walk-in humidor is well-stocked and they carry tons of boutique brands that most shops don't. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. I will definitely be making this a regular stop when I'm in the area and I'll be hanging out there smoking in the lounge having drinks, watching the game, and chatting with random strangers from the comfort of their big comfy leather chairs.
