By a wide margin, FRA has been our favorite school. Just a very well-rounded and thorough education.

Harding had the opportunity to travel to FRA for Basketball State Play offs. With both sides fans energized and cheering with all the fever pitch of a NCAA Final Four game and Refs along with coaches leading there respected teams in the final seconds of a grinding game, order was maintained and fair play was on display for all to see. At the final shot to win the game FRA basketball team fell short on points but Player and Fans rose above it in an awesome display of sportsmanship to congratulate the visiting team. Several FRA Boosters/Fans wished us good luck in the finals and thanked us for driving the three hours up to support our team. Several told us, "Safe travels and we look forward to playing you next year". Two words to summarize; Outstanding School.

'Nuff said. -Our grades teachers being seriously so fun, authentic and committed to both of my children's development in their time. Coming from another waldorf school it differed in the approach to academics, especially because where we were was K-12 and Linden is K-8. My kid got his butt served in the Academic area but the teachers worked with him closely to get him up to par and now he's excelling. -Not once has a teacher or admin not heard out my request or concern without action and/or empathy. -My middle schooler having some crazy great relationships with his teacher, like asking me to have them for dinner. -Strings Program has changed my Son's life. These relationships support my family to thrive in so many ways. I appreciate the efforts of the school in these seriously challenging times. The concert proceeds were donated to Make-A-Wish so we also got to hear some moving stories about the impact the foundation has. Overall, it was a great opportunity to see some art and listen to a wonderful choral performance.

Sylvan Park is a Padeia Design Center - focusing on the Padeia philosophy that involves the "upbringing" of a child, the approach is more than just instruction, the idea is that the child is receiving an education. You can read more online, but I definitely see activities, school programs, and the style of teaching is geared in this direction with personal attention to each child. We drive 20 miles out of the way, 10 in each direction with traffic just to get her here each day having moved away from the neighborhood and I will continue to because she loves it here and I love her being here.

I have a kid that needs additional interventions to catch up, and another that is moving well beyond his grade level, and they are both supported educationally with care and professionalism. School counseling support is excellent. It is insanely diverse in every way shape and form, and no matter who you are or where you come from, you will be welcomed into the community here. It is a public school, so it lends itself to the general struggles of public schools everywhere, but I wouldn't want my kids anywhere else. It is a lottery school, so you can lottery in from the outskirts.

In the last year, some of the most involved parents at Eakin pulled up stakes in public education and opted to shell out 10K to escape the increasing physical tensions and gaps as Nashville fails to invest in public education. I digress....so, you'll be paying more for education than you thought you would!! And SBA is a good balance between the crazy expensive USN (20K) and your kid joining either the Bloods or the Crips in 4th grade (I jest....sort of). The school is Catholic, but truly more accepting of other religions than Catholic schools use to be. They have mass on Holy Days and religion class, but often religion class is writing notes to sick school mates or families. The high points of the school are location, curriculum and and administration. The math program is particularly strong and they have opportunities for kids to do advanced work in smaller classes. The school is small and mostly clean. The small footprint makes it hard to have too many large group meetings. Areas that could use attention IMO are gym/health, getting rid of some of the old school teachers and the aftercare program needs an overhaul with some actual activities. Parents are generally pretty involved and the school does a really good job of having a unique identity in spite of the fact that kids come in with Vandy parents from many neighborhoods. They offer buses for a fee and a summer program as well. All in all this is a great school for a fraction of the cost of many other local private schools. The teachers and administration have a real 'can do' attitude and the kids seem to flourish is almost all arenas.

We visited many, many schools before deciding on SBA and we have never regretted our decision to enroll our children. They have many wonderful extra-curricular activities such as art, lego club, boy and girl scouts, cross country, volleyball, swim team and the list goes on. The staff,teachers and curriculum are absolutely stellar. Our children are excited about learning again! Plus, every grade level gets TWO outdoor recesses during the day which my kids love! They have had great transitions to a new school and have made many friends. The parents and staff are welcoming and there is a general sense that they are glad we are there and want our children to excel. If you are in the market for a K-8 school in Nashville, it just doesn't get any better than SBA.
