Very disappointed over my experience with the Staff at Granby. Everytime I met with staff it seamed we always seemed to be starting over even when a detailed plan was created. Service was non supported amd rushed, Hearst driver was in a speed race to the cemetery and leaving messages to speak with someome seemed futile was business concluded. Well in the Bronx look no further than Granby's Funeral Services on White Plains road. (GRAVE ROBBERS) My father passed away in July of 2009 in the Bronx of New York City. Being his only son and only kin living here in California the NYPD and the funeral home needed certain permissions from me in order to ID his body (so they all said) in order to move on and plan his funeral. It seems that certain members of my father's family (yeah, relatives of mine) in collusion with Granby's Funeral Home had a slick plan to cut me out of the loop of information regarding my father's death. Granby's Funeral Home had no problem playing along. (GRAVE ROBBERS) It has now been four weeks since my father passed away and Granby's Funeral Home is still denying me (yes, my father's only son) access to records relating to his death! UN-BE-LIEV-ABLE! (GRAVE ROBBERS) So YES, I do have an NYC attorney and YES we will file the necessary petition(s) to force compliance and YES Granby's Funeral Home and their DISDAINFUL TACTICS will be named and included with any further legal matters I will have to pursue in the Bronx relating to my father's death. (GRAVE ROBBERS) If you want good-ol-boy, behind-the-scenes, secretive and disrespectful treatment when attempting to mourn and grieve the loss of a loved one, then go ahead and let Granby's steal your money and take over those affairs. The service I received at Granby's started off great ended bad. I went there because I attended two funerals there in the past and I liked the appearance of the facility, well lit, clean, fairly designed up to date, and efficient space. Mrs. Granby attended to me first; she was pleasant and gave me an overview of what options they offer. Ms. Varas attended to us once we decided to give them our business. She was pleasant and informative and worked on our behalf. Fast forward to the day of the funeral; Vanessa Granby attended to our service. She was not empathetic, rude, and had the spirit of let's get this over with. I called to complain and the service I received in the beginning was not the one I received after the business was given to their facility. The value for the money is fair. It's more than most than the other funeral parlors but the others don't offer the aesthetics as they do. If you go there tread lightly. read more

Reverend Granby, Mr. Samuel Granby's son, renewed some of my Faith in the funeral home. However, prior to encountering him, I would have given 1 star. Certain staff members, (at least the 4 I encountered) including Ms. A. Granby, I believe the daughter of the founder, seems to have forgotten the principles, level of professionalism, courtesy respect, and history of this well known institution, through out the Bronx and Westchester County. First off, and most disconcerting, was the defensiveness, argumentative, and belligerent tone of conversations I had with Ms. A. Granby, and two other staff members. Unlike, Reverend Granby, who was quite the opposite. He listened to my complaint, concerns and experience intently, was patient, understanding, and most of all, had a kind, soft spoken, caring tone. Ms. Veras, our initial funeral director, did not inform us of the other forms of payment besides "certified check." Additionally, she did not tell us she would be "off until Sunday" and no longer available, about 2 days before the service. Nor were we told who would be in her stead. I found this out when I called the funeral home to speak to Ms. Veras to confirm receipt of my email. When transferred to the management office, I spoke with someone, (I can't remember her name) whose behavior was most egregious and unacceptable for a person in this field. First of all, when I told her I was calling to confirm receipt of the email I sent Ms. Veras, she said, "Yes, we got it, I made a copy of it and put it in your file." Mind you, the email required a response to questions and she knew Ms. Veras was out. Also, when asked who would be replacing her, she didn't know. By the end, the conversation became so contentious, due to her constant interruptions, talking when I was talking, not listening, not answering simple closed ended questions, constantly repeating what she had already told me numerous times, of which I said "I understand," I get it." and "that does not answer my question, I eventually had to abruptly tell her good bye and hang up the phone. She probably did not here me say goodbye, because she was steep into shouting at that time. Poor and extremely, unprofessional communication is lacking tremendously. No one in the funeral business should talk to any member of a grieving family, the way I was spoken to. I recommend immediate training on active listening and proper communication skills. Currently, I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE, unless your dealing with Reverend Granby. read more

Vanessa Granby is very unprofessional and very rude. My father passed away we used there services and Vanessa did not acknowledge me or even spoke to me. Me and my cousin made the decisions for my father's funeral. I don't understand how Devin became in control of the decision making when this was a family effort and family decision. I came with a ring for my father to wear one last time and when I gave the ring to the director she said it wouldn't be lost. Once the funeral was over the ring went missing I had to get upset and ask who took the ring I brought in for my father to wear. Vanessa created a hostile atmosphere once she gave the ring to the wrong person! I almost lost my father's ring. Vanessa also had private undisclosed meeting Devin and she was not in charge of my father's funeral. She gave the signature book, cards from my father friends, a framed picture and the death certificates to someone that had no say so towards this funeral. I would like to also add that the immediate family came at 2:30pm as per granby to have a private viewing before the funeral started and Vanessa messed that up because Devin came late(3:15) so family could not mourn privately. Very unprofessional I'm that man's only flesh and blood and for me to go thru this is really deeply saddening. My father's last farewell was ruined by Vanessa and Devin!!! read more

** Don't buy your flowers through their website**. After going to Grandby's website we decided to use the link on their site to buy our flower arrangement thinking this would be the best way to ensure our flowers arrived on time and delivered without issue. Well that didn't happen and it was ONLY because we asked our loved one about the flowers that we found out the more than $200!! arrangement didn't arrive. But sure enough, my credit card was definitely charged!! I mean, who typically follows up on a funeral arrangement delivery, right? So glad we did!! After first inquiry, Heartfelt Sympathies by Floralfulfillments.com replied telling me they "received delivery confirmation" but would contact the florist to inquire further. The next morning I was notified that, in fact, the arrangement was never delivered and they would credit my account - which I am still waiting to receive. I thought I would contact Granby's directly to make sure they were aware of what's going on but given the tone of both the front receptionist and of Miss Moore, the administrator,I wasn't left with a feeling that they really give a damn. Very poor customer service. No concern whatsoever and most definitely an air of "is there anything else?" disregard. No thanks!! First, let me make this clear, I did not even have the opportunity to work with these people. They shaded me before even getting a chance to do so! Here is my story... My mother passed away a week ago leaving no definitive requests for where she wanted cremation and memorial services held. My family and I were left with a limited amount of time to find a funeral home that would perform a cremation at a cost that was within our budget. I called around to several funeral homes in The Bronx including Granby's who gave me the cost of $2400 for a cremation! I expressed that this price was high for what we had budgeted but that I was still interested in holding a memorial service with them later on down the road. The funeral director I spoke to said that this was no issue and to give her a call when we were ready. Now, let me start here...In NYC the cost of a cremation (as of today) is only approx. $630. There is a general cost that is paid to one of the crematoriums within the 4 boroughs (not including staten island) of $419 and then some additional fees that amount to the $630. ANYTHING ELSE YOU PAY OVER THIS AMOUNT IS JUST FOR USING THE FUNERAL HOME'S NAME! (You can google this, btw. It is a fact!). So anyway, Granby's charges $2400 for direct cremation. Direct cremation meaning, there isn't even a service held before being cremated. Blasphemy! I called around and found a great funeral home elsewhere that was willing to do the cremation for $900 less and advised that they were fine with us looking elsewhere for a place to do the memorial service later on down the road. Now that the cremation is all said and done, I have been calling around looking for a funeral homes to do the memorial service. I really liked what I saw online for Granby's and the funeral director I spoke to seemed very professional. so I circled back to them to make arrangements to come in and check out the place and start booking. The original director I spoke to was not in so I ended up speaking to a separate director who booked my family and I to come in and review potential arrangements. I was excited that my search had ended and that I was finally on track to getting things ready and settled for the memorial service! BUT THEN... I get another phone call almost 5hrs later from the funeral director at Granby's asking why I was not using the other funeral home that I cremated my mother in for memorial services. I expressed that while they were within our budget for a cremation, we were more interested in working with Granby's due to their elegant facility. BAD IDEA! The director then proceeds to tell me some B.S. story about a family years ago that used another funeral home for a cremation and then used them for a memorial service. Apparently "Things got broken" as he put it and, therefore, we cannot work with them. I'M SORRY....HUH??? So you're telling me that after speaking to TWO directors who up until this point had no issue working with me after I made it VERY CLEAR that I was working with someone else on the cremation...and also expressed no issue with that until this very moment...Now I can't hold a service here??????? WAIT...IT GETS BETTER! So, then Ms. Granby herself gets on the phone to reconfirm (with zero sympathy, by the way) that we can't work with them since we didn't do our cremation there first. Citing (and this is a direct quote!) that they "Just don't open their funeral home to the public like that". When I expressed that the previous director I spoke to told me this wasn't an issue, Ms. Granby plainly put out there this is other director was (and again I quote) "Confused". *side eye* LIES! FAIRYTALES! AND FALLACIES, MA'AM! Tell the truth! You are upset because you weren't able to get an extra $2400 out of us for a cremation and are now shunning my family the ability to hold a memorial service! We are not just the 'public' we are paying customers just like everyone who is not only dealing with the hurt of a lost family member but also the stress of having to even make these types of arrangements. I am disappointed and disgusted on how this situation was handled. If any of this was an issue it should have been made clear from day 1 and I would have never wasted any time in dealing with this business. I am now going back to square one with my search and hope to find somewhere to work with soon. I am not telling anyone to never work with these people, I am just simply putting this out there so that you can be warned about what you are getting yourself into! As for Granby's I hope you know that this entire situation is something that you should be embarrassed about. There are plenty of funeral services to choose from in that area and you should be honored that a family even put you at the top of their list for consideration. I don't know where to begin. The prepaid service was a blessing. I dealt with Ms. Hypolite from beginning to end and she delivered on every aspect of the process. She walked my husband and I through the process of selecting every aspect of the funeral. When God called my father home it was already done. My mom and sister came and we personalized everything. She took her time and never rushed us or pushed us in anyway. Rev. Granby and Ms. Aris Granby were supportive and exceptional. Rev. Granby was there the day of the funeral and ensured all went well the day of the funeral due to a previously disclosed day off for Ms. Hypolite. The wake and funeral were great. My dad looked like he was asleep. He was perfectly dressed and looked like his well dressed self down to his cologne. The car service was amazing Sam our driver was perfect. I could not have asked for a better experience. I have an ode of gratitude to Granby's Funeral Services. My mom was apprehensive because she was not familiar with their services. I assured her it would be fine and to my delight it was perfect. They never missed a beat! 1st Baptist Church was beautiful! Thank you for the best gift of bereavement. The body was prepared and flown to the the virgin islands for burial and other than a little touch up once she arrived there, everything went well. The icing on the cake was the subtle smile the funeral home had on her face. I would like to also give credit the funeral director Mr. Smith. Hello I wanted to give my review because I think that Granby's Funeral Services is the most caring and loving staff in our community. They always go over and beyond what is expected of them. They are there for the grieving families (myself included) and made the transition very easy in a difficult situation. The Granby's are constantly given awards and accolades for the work they do in our community. So for those whose expectations wasn't meet I'm deeply sorry but that is not the Granby Funeral Services I know. When most people have a good experience we don't review and quickly forget. Here's mine! We just buried my Uncle yesterday 5/14/18. First, My Uncle looked like he always did. They did the best job I've ever seen making the body recognizable. And I have no reason to advertising for this place!!!! 5 stars! Second, Mr Swinton spoke to us like it was his own family being buried. He said to my cousin "We'll take care of you Dad". And when I saw my Uncle, it showed. 5 stars! The limo ride was great. The driver was polite and very professional. We got to the cemetery and back in good time. They seem to know all the routes to bypass traffic. 5 stars! The Funeral service started on time. Again the pastor was compassionate and thoughtful with his sermon. The organist was professional! Over all I would say, if you live in the area, I would at least check them out. They were not very comforting and they seemed to be more concerned with money than anything. I have to agree with most of the reviews on this funeral home. From what I understand, the founder was a decent man. However, I can tell you that the generation presently running it don't have the temperament for it. I have found them callous, rude and devoid of any compassion for their customers. It is all and only about money for them. And Yes! They will leave you at the toll or light and continue on their merry way without a thought about those in the back of procession. They seem to be running a funeral mill and need to crank out as many as quickly as they can. At the last funeral service I attended there, the man at the reception desk was playing video games. Who does that? Does the management have any sense of decency? I find it difficult to believe that the founder raised this group like this. It is probably greed that has turned them into what they are. I have seen so many issues with this group that leads me to believe they would be more suited to running a hog farm than a business that deals with people at the saddest moments in their lives. read more

I met with Ms. Granby in April 2016 to discuss pre-planning for my parents. The conversation was fruitful and Ms. Granby alerted me to several details which required my attention. Fast forward four months later, my mother transitioned in July. There were no surprises when finalizing her funeral arrangements. I found Ms. Granby and the entire staff to be consummate professionals. My mother's funeral (in the evening) and burial (tihe following morning) were well organized, uplifting and flawless.
