Not sure why the reviews here are low, but my boyfriend and I had a great time here playing slots and enjoying brunch here at their diner, "Stories Diner". We enjoyed the "The Country Breakfast" which came with two eggs, hash browns, wild rice toast, and applewood smoked bacon! YUM! The waitress, was lovely and friendly and gave my boyfriend and I each a big hug before we left the diner and establishment. What a wonderful experience! We're be back! read more

I received a $15 discount coupon from Grand Casino for a rib special. Menu price was $22 full $16 half rack. Their website showed a $12.99 monthly special rib price. The recept showed the special was $27.99. Nowhere can I find something indicating the higher price than the Menu. Nor do you receive anything outside the offering of the standard menu. (The menu offers a choice of potato instead of just fries) I couldn't find the price at $27.99 posted anywhere. read more

My God what a shit hole. Came in on a Wednesday and dropped over $300 in 45 minutes. No bonus rounds plus you put a $20 bill in and can't even get a nickel back. We were told to sit rows back and once the people came it would be dealt with. Ended up spending the concert defending where we were sitting because we didn't have seats. I gambled and got called for cash booth drawing. I followed there rules and they shut it off because I had almost all the money in half the time allowed . They disqualified me and then apologized after for not explaining all the rules. They told me I get 3 free rooms a week I used one and came back three days later and they said I didn't have any left. We have been going to and staying here for the past 20 years and have seen a lot of changes. Our most recent visit this week was probably the worst. I understand the Covid restrictions and they were not really an issue, other than security guards coming up to us and telling us to keep our masks over our noses at all times, even though they were already covering our mouths..... got irritating. The people who checked us in for our room seemed annoyed we were there at all. They were short and unfriendly. Other staff were friendly though, it was really hit or miss on that aspect. Our room was absolutely terrible. We had a room on the 3rd floor in the west tower. The mattress was the worst I have ever "slept" on. It had dips and humps on it, I felt like I was going to roll off onto the floor at some point. My wife and I had to sleep with our heads at the foot end all night. I ended up taking a 2 hour nap after I got home. The furniture in the room was old, chipped and stained. It reminded me exactly of the furniture section of a goodwill store..... The food was takeout per the states obnoxious Covid restrictions, but was actually really good. Oh. And for a Saturday night it was a ghost town. read more

Buffet I've visited the Grand Casino's buffet in Hinckley many times. I know they closed it down for a while. I was told because of pressure from the public, they decided to reopen it after doing some renovations. I have given hundreds of reviews on this site, and very rarely give a bad review. I'm usually very easy to please. I can only think of 1 restaurant during my 50 years of life that was worse than this one. I was on my way home from Duluth and decided to stop for lunch.............what a mistake! Upon entering the buffet, I noticed it was a ghost town. Besides myself, there were only 3 other tables occupied. This place was empty. I didn't think too much of it, so I got started. First thing I noticed was that they had spaced the food counters all around the outer perimeter of the restaurant, instead of having all the food in 1 area, I've now got to walk around the entire restaurant, from food station to food station. First spot I stopped was the main entrees. They had fried chicken, mashed potatoes, fish, corn and some cooked carrots. Next to that was bacon, scrambled eggs, hash browns, waffles, and French toast. They also had a server slicing turkey and ham. The chicken was o.k., mashed potatoes were cold and lumpy and luckily I could drown them in gravy! Carrots were good. Bacon and scrambled eggs were good. Hash browns were chewy, and the French toast and waffles were hard as a rock. Turkey and ham were good. Next stop was the Mexican food station. They had the fixings to make tacos, nachos, or taco salad. The ingredients looked fresh, except for the refried beans and black beans. They looked like they had been sitting there all day. They looked dry and nasty. I tried a small taco salad, no beans. I should have passed on this station all together. The next station had sliced cold cuts and cheeses. I guess I was supposed to build my own sandwich, but the cold cuts looked dry, like they had been sitting there for quite some time.............skip. The salad bar was actually good. The next station was Asian food. There was a couple kinds of rice, some dried out lo mein noodles, and something I couldn't identify that had noodles, broccoli, and some other mystery ingredients..............pass! The final station was Italian food. Pizza, most of which looked like Tombstone pizza and a couple that looked like homemade Italian bread pizza. Most of the pastas looked dry like they had been there a while, so I passed on these also. Also the self serve soda station was out of order. I finished my lunch with some more bacon and scrambled eggs, then left disappointed! Disappointed that I didn't stop at the Black Bear casino buffet, and disappointed that they ruined this buffet! Sadly, this is the first time i've ever left a buffet hungry! They spent a bunch of money remodeling this restaurant, whoever designed the layout of the food stations should be fired! Whoever is in charge of the food preparation should find a new job.....................preferably something outside of the food industry! I would have given 0 stars, but the waitress was nice, so 1 star! read more

So they are in the middle of construction on the hotel. Redoing the rooms and whatnot. So complete disaster everywhere hard to walk and move around with all the mess etc. They chose this time to jack their rates up.... Great way to do business. On top of that go to use the hot tub and it hasn't been cleaned in so long that there are mass amounts of sand all over the bottom. Now if there was sand nearby it would make sense, but there's not. What does that mean? That all the sand accumulated in here is from any bits falling off of people over time... To accumulate this much sand... I don't even want to know how long it's been since this thing has been cleaned. They do add chlorine however, so much that your eyes will burn the second you open the door and walk in. Next, we booked a king room and get up to our room and it is to Queens... Call downstairs and they tell us that to go back to the king, that we originally booked, we need to pay an additional 75 bucks or so. Get real. Don't try reserving a room on a night where there's a concert or something going on because it's upwards of $700 for a standard room. They can't find enough staff to run the buffet or half of the other restaurants. Some of their other hotels on site have been closed down now for years because again nobody wants to work here for whatever reason. Well I shouldn't say for whatever reason, it's obviously due to pay. The casino has more than enough money we all know that. Maybe pay your staff? We have stayed here quite a bit not because we want to, and no we don't gamble. But because of location to things we have going on. It used to be awesome before they closed everything down. My husband came here with his baseball team and was playing blackjack. I was standing behind him (about 6' WITH A MASK ON) and a security guard came up to me out of nowhere with a terrible attitude and yelled at me about being 6 feet away from him and how it was my last warning before getting kicked out of the casino. I am disgusted with how he spoke to me and threatened me with no prior warning... He was on a major power trip and it was totally inappropriate. Don't go if you have a disability! They harass people who are disabled and have paper work to show! The ADA Act must not apply to them! Was beaten down ( mentally) by a Guard named Dawn! People need to stand up for people who can not wear mask due to medical reasons, and have the paperwork to prove it! Just do not go a bad place trying to unwind! They no longer offer an all you can eat buffet-except for Friday and Saturday nights ONLY! It's a mall type food court only! No more breakfast buffet and no longer do they even serve breakfast! They have 8 new restaurants and you pay separate for each restaurant. They no longer offer any breakfast items! Don't visit here expecting breakfast - they no longer offer it. We decided to spend July 2-4 weekend at Hinckley Chalets. There were 3 couples in our group. Our plan was to have a pot luck meal 1 night and have the Prime Rib special the 2nd night. We were disappointed with all of the cut backs at the chalets...no dishes, utensils, soaps, 1 roll of toilet paper. We made do with what we had and enjoyed the pot luck. The 2nd night we went to dinner at 7:00 pm and they were out of Prime Rib and were not taking any reservation. The promotions department sends out a special flyer promoting this and they run out. Then we thought we will go to Rival Restaurant, closed. Stories restaurant, closed. Then we went to the only other option, was Provisions quick service, we ordered a chicken wrap, they were out, a what a shock. So we ended up with a brick oven pizza, which was the worst pizza we have ever had...under cooked and was so soggy you couldn't hold the slice of pizza with out the toppings sliding off. They beverage stations were never stocked, no ice, cups were out. The popular tap beers were out and everyone blamed the shortages on the Nelly Concert. (Which we did not attend) They promote all of these incentives to get you to come to the casino and they obviously were not prepared. We did not let these setbacks ruin our mini vacation, but the 6 of us agreed, that Hinckley missed the mark and we won't be enticed with the special offers. It is a long drive for us to get to Hinckley and the other casinos in the state are closer and seem to plan well for the busy events and promotions. A group of 10 of us has been going there the past 5 years about 3 - 4 times during the winter snowmobiling but we are all sick of losing and decided this was our last time we visit this casino. Don't do it! Very tight machines. Most bonuses very hard to hit and payed less than $5.00 when I did get a bonus. No jackpot noise in the background anywhere in the casino. It's illegal to tighten up the machines but sure seems like they did in my personal opinion. Up and down is one thing but down, down , down on machine after machine is just no fun. Concert Goers! PLEASE READ! My friend and I bought front row center tickets for the June 8, 2017 Alice Cooper concert at Grand Casino Hinckley. We took our seats and watched the opening act. Everything was fine. However, during the intermission before Alice Cooper started, hundreds of fans ran up and filled the roughly 6-foot deep area between the front row seats and the security wall in front of the stage! We paid a lot of money because we wanted to be in front with an unobstructed view of the show. The show began and we couldn't see. Not only were most of the people who jumped in front of us taller than us, they further blocked our view by constantly waving their arms above their heads. Grand Casino Hinckley Security stood by and did nothing. I then stood on my bench so I could see. Guess what? Now the security guards decided they needed to act..... by telling me to get off my bench! I explained to the security guard that I paid for front row center seats and I needed to stand on the bench in order to see the show because he and the rest of the "security team" allowed people with lesser tickets to jump in front of people with the most expensive tickets. He was not persuaded. He told me the people in front of us get to stay, and that was just too bad for me. Yes, and it's too bad for anybody else who buys good tickets near the stage because you will be paying maximum prices for obstructed view seating. On the other hand, based on my experience, you can buy terrible seats and just rush the stage. Security won't do a thing about it. read more

I stayed one night last year and this year during the MS150 bike ride. First, the reception area staff was kind and professional. We checked in at 4pm which was official check in time. Our room was not ready. For 2 1/2 hours, we and other riders waited for our rooms. We saw one Maid for our floor. How could they not have put on enough staff to get the rooms cleaned before 4pm? We went to the Grill. The food was good. The service was excellent. Friendly helpful staff. However, you have to walk through the casino from the hotel, coating your hair and clothes in smoke to get there. Poor filtration system? In general, I'd say Disappointing because it's so correctible. Second year in a row too. I will probably be staying in Hinckley next year. We could have showered, changed and had dinner in the time it took us to get into the room! read more

My family and i loved staying here when we would have family gatherings it was nice that it was the halfway point for everyone. But thanks you one extremely abrasive and vulgar cleaning lady with a bad attitude that gave everyone in my family bad vibes, we won't be returning. Our family has agreed to move our business to Black Bear. A couple days ago some of my family and I stayed there because we were attending a celebration of life get together. I personally feel like i have always done really well there. Have never left with less than i came with. But this time was different. Lost my my butt this time. And I'm a strong believer in positivity can make or break ya. And I had nothing but bad vibes and thoughts of negativity and all because of This cleaning lady that was loud and vulgar. Almost belligerent. 7 am is a little to early to listen to her negative comments. And cold demeanor took all the happy lucky feelings and sucked them out of me. . The real clincher was when I went to use the ladies room and she was in there talking to who I'm guessing is someone she knew. about how she was demoted after so many years . And her pay was cut. How she was the best painter the place has ever had. She sounded as if she was slurring her words.and cussing up a storm. I think she thought she was whispering. But not the case. I'm not the only one that heard the filth coming from this womans mouth. . This is the worst stay here I have ever had . With how many people who have lost their jobs due to covid 19, I think she would be grateful she still has a job. If she is so unhappy then maybe she should quit and they should fill her spot with a person who would be grateful ,thankful and more deserving to have a job. . .I asked another cleaning person her name. The new buffet is delicious and gourmet-- there isn't anything there that I don't like, unlike the old buffet. (I only liked the breakfast items and the Chinese noodles at old buffet, and some of the desserts.) Buffet highlights: Potstickers, wild rice pilaf, smoked chicken tenders, ripe melon in the middle of winter, mango salsa, fried cod, green beans, mac n cheese, nacho bar, lasagna, pesto cheese bread, coconut curry noodles, 8 different flavors of hard ice cream (no soft serve crap!), mini cheesecakes, mini chocolate bundt cake, and mini carrot bundt cake with crystallized sugar on outside. Of course, there are also awesome things like ribs, meatloaf, meatballs, prime rib, fresh salad, seafood on certain nights, pizza, and so far, all that I have tried has been excellent. I have already went three times. Only 10.99 during the day, 13.99 for dinner. Worth it for all the choices, and comes with beverages. I would spend more at a regular restaurant. Casino staff is amazingly friendly and "on it". Slots are tight, but not impossible to win on. Easier to stretch your money on the table games. Dealers are super helpful and fun. The only two reasons that I did not give it five full stars is the excess smoke in the air (they need to upgrade their ventilation system), and they no longer offer breakfast items on their buffet. It shouldn't be too hard to trade out some of the items for biscuits and gravy, and scrambled eggs with cheese, which were the best items on the old buffet. Went to the new restaurant Grand Provisions. Worst experience. Need a stupid swipe card per person not just one per family or couple. We at the Italian place. They messed up my pizza twice. When I got the pizza it was so covered in oil I could not eat it. They also messed up my girlfriends pizza. We were their for a Kiss concert that also started 2.5hrs late. Most corporate casinos pay out an average of 90%, and some even higher than that in Vegas.
