Americas Best Value Inn Hinckley - Queen

    Americas Best Value Inn Hinckley

I stayed here for one night 9 days ago for a Friday into Saturday. This specific Americas Best…read moreValue Inn is located in Hinkley and consists of two separate buildings. I arrived around 6:30 to check in and got stuck behind a group of 4 waiting to check in. It took about 10 minutes before I was waited on and by that time there was another two groups that had walked in after me. Thankfully my checkin was quick and the gentleman behind the counter was very nice. My room ended up being in the other building on the second floor and so I headed over there. In order to get in you had to use a keycard and for the life of me I couldn't get mine to work. Thankfully someone was leaving and let me in. Upon another time with a failed entry someone showed me that the trick was to pull it out super slow. Got it! Anyways, I didn't see any elevators and so I had to carry my luggage up the steps to my room. As for the room itself, it wasn't horrible but I wouldn't call it great either. It had a queen bed (maybe a double) in it as well as a sitting chair and a couch. The cushion on the chair was entirely too small for it near the back and so I never ended up using it. My bed was a little softer than I was used to but it worked. The soap and other items that were complimentary in the bathroom area were in dispensers. My biggest concern with the place is that everything inside looked so incredibly dated. Yes I expected it based upon the 2 star hotel rating but I usually stay in swankier places, haha. The best part about the room was easily the tv which had quite a few channels on it. I ended up heading to bed at 8 PM and dealt with some noise outside the room for a bit (it was early I know) before I fell asleep. In order to get where I was heading the next morning I checked out just before 3:30 AM and it was quick and the lady behind the counter was nice enough. The bottom line for me is that I probably wouldn't stay here again in the future. While everyone was nice and the room fits its need, it's just not somewhere I would pick by choice, especially considering the price (~$120 w taxes). As a matter of a fact I only picked it myself because it was the closest hotel to Duluth that wasn't sold out on this night.

Do not stay here! Attempted to stay here because the casino hotels were full. It's July and over 90…read moredegrees and the entire hotel is without AC. This was never communicated with guests. The room was stifling hot and fans weren't provided either. There were also exposed wires where the thermostat should be. When the issue was brought up with the front desk staff they were not able to provide any assistance and said we book through Expedia so they couldn't help and only the owner would be able to do something. The room was booked via phone by calling the hotel who used a third party website on their end of things to book the room. This wasn't just a comfort thing, the temperature alone made the room unsafe to stay in and we left. If they are "under renovation" then they shouldn't be operating until the room is habitable.

It's important to know a lot of the options with high rankings may not reflect the kind of lodging you desire so do your homework. We wanted cabin style lakeside housing that was simple yet provided options.... Appeldoorn's delivered. We rented cabin 1 which is 300 feet from the water. They have a sandy beach with two docks and water toys for kids including kayaks, paddle boats, a blob and in water slide. Throw in a sandy beach that is sifted daily you have a great place to enjoy this massive lakes beauty. The front desk is extremely helpful and they have a lot of convenience store items available for reasonable price. They also arrange fishing chartered and have rental equipment weather permitting. We also dined at the resort for breakfast and dinner and were impressed with the quality and originality of the food. The dining options are closed Monday and Tuesday so you will need to explore the local area. They have four varieties of housing and they all seem pretty awesome, we are definitely planning to return!

OK WHAT AN UPGRADE!!!!…read more I was here a few years ago for a wedding, and was not impressed to say the least. But, things have changed for the better in a BIG way!! Very different. The current event coordinator, Mariah, knocks everything she does of of the ball park. I was here for another wedding, and I was in for a huge surprise. There were many improvements, too many to list! The new wedding area is perfectly located. A permanent Arbor is there for the couple to decorate as they wish, or not. The lakeside now has 2 docks, many aquatic amenities, and a great sandy beach. Even a lakeside bar! I could go on and on, but you need to see this place on Mille Lacs to really appreciate it. However here is my thoughts on some menu items there: CHEESEBURGER SLIDERS toasted bun, gooey cheese, fresh burger SHRIMP COCKTAIL: large fresh shrimp, not from a shrimp farm in Yuma AZ PECAN ENCRUSTED WALLEYE FINGERS: none better (it should be a law that every restaurant on Mille Lacs offers something like this) but try it here NEW LOOK NEW FOOD NEW VIBE
