I had an event there washrooms where not cleaned and had a slip and fall than they denied everything ..... washroom tiles were all slippery, if your spending that much at a venue might as well book somewhere else .... guess that's why they make you take a 2 million dollar liability read more

From the guests perspective: I attended a wedding and reception held at this banquet hall over the past weekend and I can definitely say, this hall is impressive! The entire lobby is done in a neutral marble and dark hardwood which lends itself easily to any colour scheme. Located on either side of the lobby are cascading staircases which I believe, lead to the bridal suites. There appears to be only one main room which can be divided into two and used for separate events. I think what surprised me the most about this was that, during the reception, very little was heard from the other room even though their party was in full swing, it didn't interfere with the speeches that were going on in our room. Each day the rooms were set up beautifully and I'm sure, to the bride's delight. The wait staff ensured that all guests were attended to and moved seamlessly throughout the room removing dishes and keeping the place in order. The food on both days was fantastic although, since the first day was prepared by family, I can only rate the hall on the second day. The meal consisted of salad, bread rolls, a penne pasta which appeared to be in a rosé sauce and the main course of either salmon or chicken breast stuffed with feta and spinach. I opted for the latter and I have to say, it was delicious! The wait staff came around to each table with chafing dishes and served the guests individually. Unfortunately, this created an inconsistency in the amount each person received. While the table next to us received a hearty serving of salad and pasta, the guests at our table received a VERY minimal amount leaving most of them asking for more. The same went for the sides that accompanied the main course. I will give them this though, everything was cooked perfectly. Went here for a wedding and it was a great time! Upon entering the parking lot, there were two RCMP officers on their horses smiling at guests... Wow! I wondered who hired them. Then a few metres driving in, there was complimentary valet parking! What? Ok I'm so amazed already. When you enter the banquet hall's foyer itself, you will immediately notice a big fish tank, it was beautiful inside, high ceilings, staircase to the side and the other wedding was separated by a rope, which I think is great because I've been to weddings where I have to cross another party just to get to the restroom, so this is definitely a plus and ensures privacy. Inside the banquet hall room, I noticed the beautiful chandeliers and the carvings on the ceiling.. There were also smoke machines and lights attached to the ceiling, so I figured this must be standard and included in all their packages, which is amazing, a definite plus. Smoke machines and moving lights definitely add to the wow factor. When I went to the bar, the bartender immediately pours me the signature shot that the couple picked. I never had to wait for a drink, I was immediately attended to, or so it feels because every time you go to the bar, he offers you a shot. He was all smiles, so it was great service. I like the food, it was served buffet style. A variety of appetizers were served and my favourites were the chaat papri and hariyali tikka tawa. The entrees was just okay, nothing stood out and it tasted mild, which is understandable considering you cater to a wide variety of cultures at a wedding. Desserts were great and the gulab jamun was warm and delectable. The wait staff was aggressive though, they pounce on you to get rid of your half empty plate and half empty glass. read more

The place is huge! It looks like an Indian castle from far and is like a beautiful mansion when you walk into the lobby. The ceilings are huge and full for classic beautiful chandeliers giving it a magnificent look. As soon as you walk into a lobby you notice a big fish tank and then you realizes the lobby has beautiful marble floors and the stair case is beautifully round on each side. Their chair selection wasn't nice as you can't sit long term on it and your back starts hurting but I have noticed those chairs in quite a feel other venues. The chairs look nice but are uncomfortable to sit on. The Food was where they place lost a star as it was average and wasn't the best. I had multiple dishes as the weddings were buffet style food and some were good (not great) and some were just fillers. The staff was nice in giving out drinks and cleaning the table. I attended a family reception at this hall. I left a small purse there and realized it as soon as I got home. I left messages for the next 2 days and received no response. When I did finally get someone on the phone they were unhelpful and rude. I was told if I wanted to know if my purse was found I should go out to the hall and speak to the cleaning staff. I asked if they had anyway of contacting the hall or letting me know before I drove from the city to Barmpton (given that they own/manage the hall). I was then told "no" they have no way of contacting the hall, and maybe when they are back there during the week they can look. I have never encountered such rude and unhelpful behaviour. I would never hold much less attend another event at this venue. read more

Used grand empire for 2 of my wedding functions and had an amazing time. Phyllis, Gurjit, and the entire team ensured that no issues were raised and the functions flowed seamlessly. The hospitality/ customer service, and food served on both functions was amazing and the guests complimented the service. Phyllis personally checked in several times during the event to help us with and questions we had and to ensure we ate. Would recommend this hall to anyone looking for a special and memorable time. Overall the experience at Grand Empire was not that great. I had heard about the inflexibility about the owner, but I experience it first hand when we had to book with them, and Gurjeet was not that welcoming at all. It felt like I was at a funeral home, the entire overall booking experience. Let's start with one of the most important aspects of a wedding reception - the food. The entire experience was horrible. We were first asked to select dishes from their "packages" and were told we had no way of tasting them. We had to visit random events prior to the wedding and taste whatever menu was selected by the guests and get an idea of the food. If we wanted to get an exact tasting done for the food we were asked by Gurjeet to visit his restaurant and pay for the dishes we wanted to taste. Ridiculous to learn that even after spending close to $10K we had to spend extra to taste the food. The event manager Phyllis was again like her boss, and not flexible to deal with. First and foremost pretty much anyone on their panel was a useless recommendation, and overly expensive for the service they were offering. They did not deal with our decorators professionally as well, and if they could wash their hands off something they did that as soon as possible. To further add insult to the injury - their lightning technician took our USB to play our slideshow, and never returned it back to us, and after asking them several times - there's still no answer about where the USB went. The management at the hall is full of attitude, and that's the last thing you want to deal with when hosting an important occasion such as a wedding reception where you want to celebrate with happiness. In a nut shell - don't book with this banquet hall unless you have no other venue available to book. read more

We had our wedding reception at Grand Empire Banquet and Convention Centre and it was wonderful. We had the opportunity to work with Phyllis, who was our wedding coodinator for the day, but she just went above and beyond. WOW!!! Those are the first words you you say as you walk in. My fiance and I were hall hunting early last summer when we happened to stumble upon this place, called the owner and made an appointment. When we first met with Gurjit, he was extremely welcoming and helped us out with our budget we had set in our minds. He definitely makes you feel like your event is the only event that is being held at that banquet hall. I have to say, the details from the washrooms to even the kitchen is impeccable! I was impressed with the staff that is even doing their job but will stop to say "hello" knowing that you are a guest and a potential client. For anyone that wants to book an event, I would strongly recommend going here first, speak with Gurjit and don't give him a low ball budget (even I will laugh at you). I can promise you he will find way to fit what you are looking for into the budget and is extremely generous! The booking experience was the easiest out of all of the halls we went to. This past weekend friends of ours had their reception held at the hall. We decided to attend as we were curious to know what the service was like as a guest and to know what we were really having to look forward to. I cannot even express how impressed we were. Guests everywhere were talking about how great the service was and what a "GRAND" banquet hall it really is! You typically do not see the owner of a hall in the kitchen preparing the plates, but Gurjit was back there with the staff and his father dishing the food out. Phyllis, who is the banquet coordinator is on the floor making sure things run smoothly, ensuring that the suppliers are where they need to be and she ensures that no stone is left unturned. She had the hall looking fabulous and shockingly after having so many brides for the busy season ahead remembered us. Get to know her and you'll love her as you can tell she LOVES what she does and it's not just a job. If you want a hall that actually CARES and ensures that your event goes off with a hitch you MUST visit this one cause I do not doubt for one second you will be disappointed! read more

Worst banquet hall service ever. Charged a handsome amount, promised a lot of things and when the day came did not deliver. We were told that our guests will be provided valet parking so we put that on the wedding invites and there was no valet service at all, which to say the least was extremely embarrassing. When we went to complain there was no management staff available to address the issue. Do yourself a favour and do not have your event at this place. I am gonna start off by reiterating that the banquet hall is amazingly built. The interior and its details are eye-catching. And their food is impressive as well. However, their staff really sucks. They are so uncooperative and snobby. They gave my decor team a hard time when they were setting up and were really stingy with answering questions on the phone. When my family went in for the payment, their manager gave them attitude just because they asked her to break down the billing details :S The owner promises 3x more than what he can actually deliver. He's great with his marketing but once your payment is in, they don't care who you are. I have never had such a bad experience organizing an event at a banquet before. Please save your money and invest in a place where you can count on some genuine help later. Their coordinator imposes her ideas on their clients, without listening to the client's needs. I honestly don't think any bride needs that. It's cool that you have your own experience, but keep it with you. If it's MY day, I don't care about what you think is going to look good. You should just present a suggestion and not impose it on your clients where they think they do not matter anymore. I've honestly experienced better at other banquets. The service is what matters when you want your 'ONE' day to go as expected. If I was to invest 20 grand in another event, it definitely WOULD NOT BE at GE. I've heard better things about the owner's father. I wish we dealt with him rather than their idiotic staff. It was absolutely unpleasant for us to deal with such unprofessional and rude people. I attended a wedding here. A very nice venue. The service and decor were both good. I especially liked the chandeliers.

Just as the name implies, this banquet hall is nothing less than "grand" with a roman-inspired entrance reminiscent of ancient Grecian Colosseums. The front foyer was gorgeous with tiles of a stone polish. With multiple halls within the "colosseum", Grand Empire should be one of rhe first venues to visit when looking for a venue for your birthday/ wedding reception/party etc. For women: The washrooms! wow, the washrooms... The washrooms were taken out of a Greccian palace. I would definitely recommend this banquet hall for medium-large events. read more

We recently had our Sangeet at Grand Empire. At every step of the way, from the booking to the night of, we were impressed with their professionalism, kindness and commitment towards making our event a huge success. Grand Empire is split into two halls, and our party of 300 fit into the smaller one with plenty of extra room. The venue was impeccably clean and lavish. The foyer was an excellent location for photos with an elegant staircase, beautiful flowers, gorgeous chandeliers and a cool fish tank. The food and service was all fantastic. Both on the night, and at our food tasting, everything was delicious and well cooked. If this was a restaurant, we would be regular customers for sure. Each course was served perfectly on time, fresh and hot. Pappu, the food and dining coordinator, is a kind, helpful man and runs a very slick and streamlined operation.The bartenders and waitstaff were kind, considerate and each contributed substantially to guests enjoyment of the event. Gurjit and Phyllis were both fantastic both in the planning stages, as well as coordinating on the night of. Both were very flexible and accommodating to our events specific needs, and definitely saved us a number of times. Although this venue definitely is "grand" and impressive by first glance I have to say the staff and management were very unorganized and incompetent in nature and don't care about the overall guest appearance factor of an event. Throughout our dealings with the venue, information kept getting missed, phone calls and emails went unanswered. The day we arrived to begin set up there wasn't a single staff member available to assist us in any manner. Everyone was too busy with prospective brides and grooms who were coming to check the place out. We kept being diverted to the floor manager who was too busy to interact with us and was focusing all of her time on the other hall. When we did get her attention she would lazily slump over and seem annoyed that we needed her assistance. Our biggest disgust with the overall management of the event was the dirty plates and dishes left amongst the lobby area following the cocktail reception and dessert buffets. The dessert buffet was left unattended with half eaten cake, ice cream and dessert sprawled across the table. It looked unappetizing and messy. To top off the lack of care for the guests and the hosts we were shocked when we looked over at the candy buffet (which was supplied by the hosts) to find 6-8 of the staff huddled around helping themselves to bags of candy which were meant for the guests. We were not at all impressed with the management of the event at this venue! read more

Looking for a venue to celebrate our wedding reception we visited Grand Empire. Upon entering the venue we were amazed with the marble stone floors, staircase, chandeliers and massive aquarium - beautiful lobby. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful and we sat down to discuss pricing and menu. The venue caters to all types events and can customize your food menu to your liking so there is no need for expensive caterers. After doing the food testing we knew we had found our venue for our wedding reception, the food is absolutely amazing. Compared to few options from other venues, Grand Empire has endless choices of napkins and table covers - all colours and even silk material! The interior of the ballrooms is spacious and well decorated. We loved the fact that all the sound and lighting is all built in so there are no bulky speakers and lights crowding your backdrop or floor area. The washrooms are exceptionally clean, equipped with TV's and spacious. Plenty of parking outside and even an option of getting valet parking for your guests! The price was phenomenal for the quality and amount of food you get. Desert table options are endless; include chocolate fountains, fresh fruits etc. Way more than any of our guests could consume, but everyone was really happy with the food. We received constant compliments on the decor of the hall and food weeks after the event. Phyllis is the coordinator for the hall and met with us to discuss options, deposit etc. well in advance of the wedding and we had a final meeting to go over the table layouts etc. She was super friendly and knew exactly what she was doing. The day of the wedding reception everything went really well. The venue owners are always onsite to ensure the event goes smoothly and food/drinks are always replenished. Staff are welcoming and friendly. The bartenders are outgoing and knowledgeable of all types of drinks. Everyone really went out of their way for a successful and enjoyable night for all of our guests. We were really happy with the service and the experience and would definitely book again for future events! Thank you Gurjit, Phyllis, Seema and the GE Team for making both events: Our Wedding and Reception - perfect. Grand Empire is the Premium Banquet Hall in town, and has earned a name within the industry as such. Food: This was the least of our worries. GE has a reputation of having an abundance of tasty food. Every single dish at both our events was different. No dish was spared - we have received many compliments on each of the dishes. (No dish was too spicy to eat). The taste was scrumptious and the presentation and layout of the dishes made for a feast for royalty. My wife and I ensured we ate on the day of our Wedding and Reception because people raved about the food. There is no other Banquet Hall Owner that would be personally monitoring the food and filling the dishes from the appetizers to the main course to the desserts to ensure abundance. Which other hall owner does that!? Organization: Phyllis was our Wedding Planner and she took care of both of our events. She ensured all the tables, seating charts, last minute changes, was all in writing and all clarified and reviewed up front so it could be implemented on the day of our events. It was so nice to know that we got a Wedding Planner when we booked the hall for our events. She addressed our concerns and asked us about the details we forgot. It is so nice to know that Phyllis treated us like her children and wanted the best for us. It is so reassuring - especially given the nature of a typical wedding which can be very stressful. For us it was very special, and the videos are a testament to that. Transparency: The first time I spoke to Gurjit, I was pretty straight up with him. Many hall owners play games and there are very many hidden costs that appear last minute. Gurjit is honest, fair, works with the couple, and a true gentleman. He was a pleasure to do business with and someone who can be trusted. Gurjit wanted to ensure our day was perfect... he has a reputation of putting in the same amount of effort for all the couples to make it work! All our vendors know him, and recommend him and GE without reservation. Attention to Detail: We are a very particular couple. From the napkins to the menu to the lighting to the preference of the Tea masala, to the layout of the dessert table - everything was meticulously arranged. Thank you so much. A horrible experience! Don't waste your time with the staff here. Don't just walk away...RUN! They are completely delusional, and over-promise while signing. When it comes time to deliver the event, promises are broken. Held my wedding reception here and although everything seemed great leading up to the event, I was shocked to find out the bar agreement we had in place was not upheld. It was brought to my attention during the reception that they were not serving the rum or vodka that was agreed upon. I had numerous complaint from my guests that the servers were rude and the alcohol was watered down as there were alot of people who wished to drink straight rum. After the event, I contacted Phyllis to express my disappointment and wanted to speak to the owner (Gurjit). I was told he was away as his family was moving and that she would relay the message to him. 6 months later and I still have not heard anything from them. Extremely disappointed with their service especially considering the amount we paid to have our wedding and reception here with our guest count of 500. read more

Walked in and greeted by a guy who pretended to know who we are and had assumed he spoke to us and already decided on a price of $40 a person, meanwhile it was our first visit to the hall. Went into the banquet room, flicked on lights in different colours, pointed out the already visible self explanatory bar location and then mumbled something and left. Another lady came and greeted us nicely, started talking about available days, we asked questions to get clarifications and was answered in an insulting manner that left me speechless. Word of advice, first impression goes along way. Pretty much the experience was ruined right off the bat. Went up to the office to discuss menu and price. The office is shared by 2 people ( not a professional conference room as with other halls) none stop phone calls and cell phone ringing etc. hard to focus on anything. Talked about menu all fine and dandy, came down to the price...$105!! Bellevue and hazelton manor are 5 star halls if not more and they charge less by alot! Run down place like this wants to charge $105! Didn't even bother to negotiate...it was a dead deal the second we stepped foot into the hall. This hall is not for everyone. Yes it's a pretty aquarium , yes there is chandeliers however it would be nice if the fixtures are not falling apart. If there is 2 events happening at the same time, a pretty black rope divides the lobby (major sarcasm) not even a curtain or something. Big parking lot. Not too fond of the smell. Horrible tracking system of booking events. Gave us availability but can't be too sure cause files sometimes get used by other people. Use a computer system! I can only imagine how inaccurate scheduling events is. I'll give a star to those poor fish in the aquarium who may or may not be fed. read more

We had our wedding reception at Grand Empire Banquet and Convention Centre at the end of August. From the very beginning of the planning process, Grand Empire stood out as one of our top hall choices. Though we had not personally attended an event at this venue, we had heard rave reviews from relatives that had recently attended a wedding there. Gurjit was very helpful and informative throughout the process, and was always easily accessible for queries that we had - small or large. Phyllis was our assigned wedding coordinator, and she worked closely with us to ensure that all the details were aligned with our vision for the wedding. She was also an excellent resource for linking us with wedding vendors that were within our budget and we found ourselves to be extremely satisfied with them. On the day of the wedding everything was extremely organized and well executed - from the lighting, to the food, to the overall atmosphere. Gurjit was there when we arrived to make sure everything was to our satisfaction, and was visible many times throughout the evening. Over a month after our wedding, we continue to receive positive feedback from our guests about the reception experience.
