We stayed at Grand Hôtel Saint Michel for five nights during a serious Paris heatwave, and we were really glad to have air conditioning. While the room did stay cooler than outside, it was never quite cool enough--but the lobby was beautifully air-conditioned, and every time we returned to the hotel we would pause there for a few minutes to cool down and drink water before heading up. We booked a larger room than we originally planned (I had almost chosen a very small 140 sq ft room at another hotel), and I'm so glad we upgraded. The space was perfect for two people plus all of our luggage. The queen bed was comfortable, and the layout worked really well: one side of the room had a closet and cubby shelving where I kept my belongings, while the opposite side had a desk and shelving area that my sister used. The room also included two cozy bathrobes and slippers, which were a nice touch. There was a hair dryer and a coffee machine, although unfortunately the coffee machine didn't work during our stay. Each afternoon between 3-6 PM, the hotel offered complimentary flavored water, coffee, tea, and pastries. We especially appreciated the cold infused water during the heatwave and made a point of stopping by every day. The staff were consistently welcoming and helpful, and there was always someone at the front desk. The lobby itself was lovely, decorated with flowers and a decorative Eiffel Tower, which gave it a charming feel. Although the hotel is located on a small one-way street, taxis and Ubers were easy to access just around the corner, only steps from the entrance. The location in the 6th arrondissement was excellent--close to many restaurants and shops, yet it never felt touristy, even being near Luxembourg Gardens. Overall, it was a very comfortable stay in a great location, and we would absolutely stay here again. read more

Grand Hotel Saint Michel was listed on our work travel lodging list and so we booked it for our work trip. I loved this boutique style hotel because it was very close to the great restaurants, metro, and many of the touristy attractions of Paris. Our stay came with complimentary WiFi, breakfast and free access to the spa they have which includes sauna and hydromassage machines. We also opted for paid massage to help with our sore and aching muscles. It was amazing! The staff here were all so friendly and accommodating. They went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable and relaxing. They provided us with recommendations of great restaurants and on our last day even got us take away coffee and pastries since we would be missing breakfast. I would definitely come back! read more

Absolutely love our stay here during our honeymoon. The staff were more than accommodating towards us and all of them spoke perfect English. It is a boutique hotel, but it's a very nice space considering how small some of the hotel rooms are in Paris. We were also able to stay in the panoramic room, and that experience just can't be beat. Great stay for 2 nights. Got an excellent rate for a larger than average room. Included access to the basement spa, which was superb. They have a hydro massage table and a perfect little hammam. The staff were so kind and helpful. It was very clean and the bed was big and comfortable. Good sized bathtub. Quiet and chill. Stocked with nice products, robes, slippers and plenty of coffee pods. This is a solid 4 star hotel. As I elaborate below, they pay attention to details to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable. The location is also excellent. LOCATION A number of famous sites are within easy walking distance. The Luxembourg garden is about 5 minutes away; The Sorbonne is on the next block; Notre-Dame is about 15 minutes away. In addition, it is only a block away from Boulevard Saint-Michel, where you can find many restaurants and shops. GUEST ROOM The room I stayed in was not large (by American standard) but large enough to feel comfortable. Both the sleeping area and the bathroom were renovated and clean. The bathtub was very clean, and I actually took a bath in it (TMI). The view from the room was stunning. The Sorbonne was right there on the next block! Also, they have provided everything you can think of to make your stay comfortable in your room: fridge, bathrobes, tooth brushes, all kinds of toiletries, etc. DETAILS I just loved their attention to details. All of their toiletries are made by Hermes. They have installed a universal plug adapter on one of the outlets. The shower head has multiple settings. BREAKFAST Upon checking in, I was surprised to find out that breakfast was included. As you can see in my photos, they serve a very nice breakfast buffet. I still cannot believe it was only 180 euro for all of this. If you're going to Paris, stay here! Their staff was so very accommodating and they were all so wonderful! The hotel was clean, comfortable and adorable. The breakfast was very nice and fresh. The hamam (steam spa) is free to guests by just reserving it, which is lovely after a day of walking around the city. I lost a necklace that was very important to me in the hotel. The staff found it and returned it to me, which was over and beyond what I could have ever hoped for. They're very good people! Again, if you're ever in Paris, stay here! read more

Probably one of the most modern hotels we stayed at while in Pairs. They do not cut corners when it comes to luxury and making you feel welcome. We stored our bags here before and after our check-in times. They also have tea and ice water in their nice lobby waiting for you. The rooms were small but very beautiful and upscale with Hermès toiletries. The views were INCREDIBLE! And if you're looking at this hotel because of the location - it is ALL about the location. We walked everywhere we wanted to go in 30 minutes or less. Most things were only a 5-10 minute walk. The neighborhood has more of a local feel and is wayyyyy less touristy than others which was really what sold us. Highly recommend! read more

This is a lovely hotel in Latin Quarter. It is a 5 minute walk away from the Pantheon and a 2 minute away from Le Jardin du Luxembourg. It's a 15 minute walk to the Notre Dame cathedral. I was here for three nights. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. Space is limited but what else was to be expected from a major city? I also loved the red and black design and my potted window flowers that matched. There was a converter in the room for dummies like me who only had US chargers. Free decent speed WiFi available. There was complimentary tea time in the afternoon with cookies and tea in the lobby. I had great customer service and the staff that checked me in addressed me by name every day as I came and went. Thankfully, Paris is a wonderful city for those wanting to stay at local spots as opposed to big chain hotels. This was one of the driving factors for my stay here, it felt Parisian and the location was pretty solid. For those tourists from US, it's a pretty solid 3 star hotel by hotel ratings that you see in American cities. To be clear upfront, I don't have any experience staying in other Parisian hotels at a similar price point for comparison. My prior stays in Paris have been at much more costly options. So, on to the review. I'll start off with some of the things I liked. The staff were very pleasant, the boutique-ish decor is cool and the location convenient. Luxemberg gardens are almost outside (5 min walk), party areas of St Germain are about a 15 min walk, which is reasonable, amazing restaurants within 10-15 min walking radius. Yelp has proven pretty reliable. Checkin process was smooth as expected. However, I simply can't give this property any higher of a rating for a few reasons... To start off, the bedding comfort is terrible. Pillows feel like you are literally sleeping on bricks in a white cover. The mattress isn't comfortable at all and I would never stay here again solely for this reason. I could barely sleep. However, to make things worse, wifi is quite bad, thus I could barely get work done. Kept on cutting out all the time (both networks) and speed for doing any work such as Skype conferencing is horrible. Thus, if staying for work in Paris, this is not the spot. I think I am being quite generous with the rating I am giving this hotel and although I wanted to like its local charm, these two items were truly dealbreakers for any future stay. As far as the property common areas go, they are all small and well maintained. Hallways are dark and cramped. There was almost always a huge janitorial cart standing in different places in the hallway or by the elevator. The lights only turn on when you walk into an area, as an energy saving feature. I did notice a few environmental consciousness things around, such as water in the room coming in reusable bottles instead of plastic. Kind of cool, but might be a little of a mind change for some to drink water from a bottle that another person drank from, hopefully washed by staff well and refilled. I wish there was at least an option. As far as the rest of the room, the design is good and as pictured. The room I had was quite cramped, but it's Paris, so expected. Just be prepared for it to feel much more cramped than the photos show. Bathroom had nice Hermes toiletries, renovated design and good shower. Overall, there were things I liked about this hotel, but some huge dealbreakers due to which I would not stay again. read more

Quaint hotel close to shopping and about a 12 minute walk from the Notre Dame Cathedral and about a 16min walk to the Louvre. it was very easy to get to this location for CDG since it is a 3 min walk from the Luxembourg train station. There are a lot of stores, restaurants and coffee shops in the area. The staff here are very friendly and breakfast is served daily from 6-8am. When I checked into this hotel the air conditioning was not working. It was 90 degrees and all of my chocolates from Brussels melted. Then the fire alarm went off. Then they locked myself and 3 other people including my wife and brother in law at THREE AM. The front desk attendant fell asleep. The front desk attendant during the day shift wouldnt offer any solution other than to tell us to leave the hotel. That she was going to call the police because we were yelling so loudly about them endangering our lives in a foreign country when a hotel with 4 stars is supposed to be a safe place to stay. read more

I recently attended a Summit at the Sorbonne, and extended my stay so I could see a little of Paris. This charming and immaculate boutique hotel is perfectly situated in walking distance of the Latin Quarter, the Sorbonne, Luxembourg Gardens, and the Metro. We walked to Notre Dame, the Louvre, Le Marais, and other sites - very pleasant walks, nothing grueling. Loads of cafés, restaurants and shopping nearby. The Hotel itself is modern, chic, and spotless. It looks exactly as it is portrayed onthe website! They provide a wonderful daily breakfast (a real breakfast with pancakes (mini), eggs, ham, sausages, breads, rolls, fresh fruit, muesli, nuts, coffee/tea/juices, etc.) The layout of the rooms maximizes the space. The rooms have robes with slippers and lots of amenities (toothbrushes, lotions, power converters, etc.) As noted by other reviewers, the staff provides a complimentary afternoon tea as well. The Hotel staff is what really moves this hotel into the "excellent" category. They really do work hard to make your stay a terrific experience. They are friendly, very helpful (from giving directions & recommending restaurants, providing change, getting stamps and mailing letters, to getting us into a last minute day tour, and even letting us use the microwave on a couple of the long days when we were too tired to eat out.) They also spoke fluent Spanish! Kudos to Marie, Lidia, Charlotte (apologies if I don't have your name correct), Silvio, and the rest of the staff. We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights at the beginning of our vacation in France. We were 2 couples in 2 rooms. I have to say the accommodations were exceptional!! We would absolutely stay here again! The rooms were very nice and clean as were the bathrooms. The staff - Marie, Clothide (sp?) and 'the young man with the nice eyes whose name I forgot' were EXTREMELY nice and friendly and did anything and everything possible to make us feel welcome. The location, for someone who wishes to explore the beating heart of Paris by foot or by mass transit, is without peer. Proximity to an array of small bistros right in the near quarter, parks big (Luxembourg) and small (Rene Viviani). Plus, if you don't really care to pay for a cab ride in from CDG airport, take the RER to and from the Luxembourg station right around the corner. From the Lux station you can also connect to the world class Metro network to get around to farther reaches of the city. read more

My daughter and I arrived at the hotel after several stressful days in Brussels during the terrorist attacks. We were unable to leave Brussels when we had planned because of the crisis, which meant we were arriving in Paris two days late. As you might imagine, my teenage daughter was already pretty stressed out given how close we were to the attacks in Brussels. When we approach the front desk and gave the attendant our name, instead of welcoming us, she started with "we have a big problem." We had booked our hotels through hotels.com which is apparently owned by Expedia. When we informed hotels.com of our travel issue they were incredibly kind and understanding, but not the hotel itself. The woman at the front desk argued with me, and made a point to tell me multiple times that our reservation was for another night and that the hotel would charge us anyway. It was not an issue of a language barrier or, as the staff spoke perfect English, it was simply their unwillingness to be hospitable. The room was quite nice, and the location was ideal for our purposes. We ended up checking out a day early because of the terrible service, and lost several hundred dollars in the process. The staff and manager took the occasion did tell me how much they dislike hotels.com and Expedia, to which I took up for the websites by explaining that we would have never heard of their hotel were it not for those apps. I actually told them that they should be a little kinder to services that bring them customers, to which they responded "you should tell them to be kinder to us." Needless to say, with a daughter who is already rattled, I wasn't very much in the mood for their attitude. read more

The staff here have been friendly and helpful, and the bed in our room is very comfortable. I slept well in it, and I like that the black-out curtains make it a good sleeping atmosphere. I have been staying here one day so far. It's not a huge room, but it is organized well enough to be both comfortable and functional. There are two things that would keep me from staying here again. One: There is a sour smell in our room that comes and goes. Sometimes it is very strong; other times it is not noticeable. It smells like sewage or something very foul when it is here. Two: The wi-fi internet access is horribly slow. It took me about 15 minutes just to sign on to Yelp, and that has been the typical experience using the we-fi since we checked in yesterday. It's very frustrating to wait so long. It could be a very nice hotel experience if the internet access was not so slow. Perhaps also if in a different room that does not have a rotten smell. read more
