Heaven on Earth, Grand Isle State Park is truly special…read more Grand Isle State Park deserves every bit of five stars, especially seeing the incredible work being done rebuilding after Hurricane Ida. The resilience here is inspiring, and the experience is absolutely worth supporting. This place is breathtaking. We kayaked every single day and saw dolphins constantly, entire schools swimming with us. The new rock jetties have attracted so much marine life, making every trip on the water unforgettable. The water is beautiful and crystal clear, and the sand is soft, not muddy like many coastal areas. Camping right on the beach, whether RV or tent, is an experience everyone should try at least once. Falling asleep to the waves and waking up to endless ocean views feels like pure peace. All spots are just on the north side on the jetty's. The camper spots are paved, with 30/50amp power, water, level with tons of space and there is a dump station in the park. The park hosts are incredibly kind, welcoming, and genuinely helpful. The park feels very safe and secure while still being quiet, peaceful, and not overcrowded. The entire island is amazing. There are convenient spots all over to rent kayaks right by the water for around $20. The local supermarket is a hidden gem. It has everything from beach gear to hardware supplies to groceries. Several lovely restaurants are rebuilding and thriving after the 2021 hurricane, which makes supporting this community even more meaningful. The pier is currently down as of February 2026, but there are still plenty of places to fish, explore, walk, and enjoy the scenery. We loved the area so much we extended our stay twice. Grand Isle isn't just back after the hurricane. It has been amazing the whole time. We absolutely cannot wait to return.

I did see lots of folks fishing and crabbing on chilly October weekend. Although I was there to hang out with friends and just enjoy the scenery. Unfortunately, the restaurant choices on the island are even more limited than were 5 years ago. Thanks oil spill for helping business shut their doors. Definitely a great place to enjoy some beach time and visit with family and friends.

Danny showed us dolphins, sea turtles, and thousands of pelicans. We learned about a German U boat found sunk off shore, a Civil War era fort, on an island previously inhabited by pirates. Oyster beds, million dollar rock walls to mitigate storm surges, and how dredging works. He discussed Deep Water Horizon and his work transporting biologists during the oil spill clean up, and the giant oil spill cleanup ship now stationed on the island. Shrimp boats, how different ones work and his time shrimping in this area which produces 80% of US caught shrimp. Deep water oil wells and pipelines, and how that impacts the ecology and economy of the island (29 petroleum and oil pipelines run through the island. Global warming, rising sea levels, increasing salinity, and frequency of major storms and hurricanes. This island is close to where the Mississippi flows into the gulf, and the ecological diversity is rich, but changing. The tour was beautiful and educational, and also a good reminder that someone always lives downstream.

Part of the "user agreement" in visiting, is to always leave the location cleaner than you found it. Give a hoot; don't pollute.

Where to start with World's End? Is it a park? Is it abandoned public property? Is it private…read moreproperty? Who knows and frankly I don't think anyone really cares. This little patch of land sits along the Mississippi River and the Inner Harbor Navigation Canal, better known as the Industrial Canal. This area offers up excellent views of the City of New Orleans and some front row seats to the river boats passing by. Area has been pup friendly but due to its quite yet semi sketchy nature a leash is recommended. There are a few abandoned buildings nearby complete with mattresses, broken glass, and plenty of drug paraphernalia. Watch your step. Near the end of the land it drops down beyond the levee the a naturally made sandy area I hesitate to call a beach. You can usually find some campers set up in this area but typically they keep to themselves. Overall this little hidden gem is a decent little retreat without going outside the city. Feel free to bring a folding chair, blanket, and some suds for some r&r.

It's a peaceful space where families come to gather for birthdays, holidays or just because. Sunsets here are unmatched. I love coming to the fly with lunch or a snowball. The lazy river is artfully done, giving a nod to Louisiana wildlife and nature areas. There are a lot of skillful and friendly lifeguards around the area. There are several different food pavilions, restrooms, locker areas, and areas to sit. There is also a fun water slide, giving homage to the infamous alligators with albinism who have taken residence at the Zoo and Aquarium over the years. This would be a fun place to relax with your kids during one of the summer sessions. My friends and I attending the adults-only Sip and Dip event held on Fridays during the summer. It was very affordable for a private cabana for six with early access. Be sure to reserve your tickets for the event early online as it does sell out. It got a bit crowded toward the end, and they did run out of regular floats, though some preferred the thick floating noodles offered. Every Friday night has a different theme, so there is something for everyone. They bring in Dickie Brennans for the bar, and they were wonderful with decently priced drinks and quality alcohol. They were also creating with the mocktails. I certainly will return for another Sip and Dip either later this summer, if able, or next year. Absolutely worth it!

My first time at Cool Zoo was for the adults-only Friday night party, Sip & Dip. This event is 2X a month during the heart of the summer and features theme nights with DJs and of course since this is NOLA, people get creative and might dress in theme. I went on 80s night and the music was so fun and I loved people wearing neon, 80s tshirts and even hair and make-up. Refreshments stands are spread out among the park and they do a themed cocktail and sell beer, hard seltzer and soft drinks, along with typical concession food and popcorn. I had the cocktail of the evening, the Purple Rain and while it was eye-catching, it was so sweet and possibly strong, too, that I couldn't drink more than 1/4 of it (and it's a huge cup, fairly priced at only $13). The grounds are beautiful with fountains and an area with slides and water features that you'd normally see children dominating (with perfectly good reason) but it was actually fun to see adults having at it on the slides and at the water sprayers. Then there's the lazy river, which is a decent size, warm and full of jets to move you along. We ended up not using flotation devices and swam/walked through it. My main issue and why this event isn't personally my cup of tea: it's too crowded. It sells out but I think they sell far too many tickets. We arrived 15 min after it started and there wasn't a lounge chair nor seat at a table to be found. Cabanas are so cheap here but they sell out immediately ahead of the event, likely the day that tickets go on sale. The only way I'd return was if I could get a cabana. The lazy river is completely packed 45 minutes into the event. We were lucky enough to get a locker (which also sell out so imagine being there without a space to put your things??? how is that fun?). People are in general nice enough to hand over the inner tubes but good luck ever getting a place to sit if you didn't line up in advance of start time. I keep going back between 3 and 4 stars for the main reason that everyone who works here is SO nice. The staff really made everything bearable for me, as they were so welcoming and helpful to point out where the lockers were (there's another set behind the set you initially encounter). I just think this isn't the event for anyone who avoids crowds of people. And the crowd that was there that night were totally fine (at least early in the evening). They just sell too many tickets for me to enjoy it.

I've never floated the Bogue Chitto but I did a river float in Hot Springs, Arkansas a few years back and this was way more relaxing and organized. Easy float that would be kid friendly (would probably do the two hour one though) since there's not too many obstacles/rapids and lots of beaches to stop at. Took me less than a 1.5 hours to get here from NOLA and took my friends about 1.5 to get here from BR.10/10 recommend this and I will definitely be back!
