I haven't been behind the wheel of a passenger car since October of 1989. I was supposed to have 1 1/2 hour driving lesson before my road test but traffic was hella bad and my instructor Augusto was a rock of competence, calm, and class. He was able in ONE THIRTY-MINUTE LESSON to get me back to my old skills. During the test I kept hearing his steady voice to complete each phase of test. I took the 5 hour course here which was good. The instructor explained minute details which one should expect in the road test and otherwise while driving too. I took 2 one hour sessions before the test. The instructors - Vincent and Augusto - were pretty good. I have driven in India for nearly 10 years but never in US, so they pointed out mistakes I was making here and things I should be careful about. I passed the driving test pretty comfortably. On Monday afternoon June 17th, I called the phone number on their website to ask a simple question about required identification to bring to the 5 hour driving class. The woman who answered the phone was so incredibly rude! I politely asked her to clarify that bringing only a photo permit would suffice. Her reply was "Ugh! Oh my god" and then she hung up on me! I obviously will not be choosing to take my driving classes here. If this is any preview of the treatment/experience they offer during classes, I would advise others to go elsewhere for driving classes as well. read more

Had to he online course on zoom. Everything was good and the instructor was nice. But then we been told that we will receive our certificates by the mail within 5-10 business days. I waited for an entire month and never received it. I called them 3 times after 2 weeks from my course questioning and asking about my certificate and got no clear answers. I asked them if I can go personally to pick it up from their location and after they finally agreed I went there. And they kept me waiting for 15-20 minutes outside by the street while I kept calling them and they kept telling me to wait as they can't have me in the building. Completely unprofessional service and wouldn't recommend it to anyone. read more

Came here because I needed to get my drivers license, which, in new york, mandates you to take a five hour class. In case you didn't know, the five hour class is utterly useless and covers the same information you technically need to know to pass the permit exam you take over at the DMV. Still, it is a hard requirement in NYS, since you need to bring it to your road test. I called on very short notice, and they wound up having something available on that day (I think it was March 22, 2018). I showed up around 5:30, and while the class is 'technically' a five hour lesson, it won't quite be that long. The class consists of an instructor handing out some mini quizzes (don't worry, these aren't terribly important or anything, since it's just for educational purposes), playinga video (the video portion of the class lasts maybe an hour), and then going over some things on the board. The only rule here is that you can't be sleeping or be playing with your phone while the instructor is in the room- just follow those rules, pay the $50 required for the class, and you'll be set to get your five hour certificate from GPDS. Your certificate is good for one year. I'll say that these guys don't seem like the most organized people. I was interested in having my road test administered by them, but there wound up being some scheduling issues. The road test cost is $160, and an individual lesson costs $70. I think they make you have a minimum of one lesson with them if they sponsor your road test, so the minimum you'll have to pay (if you have them sponsor your road test) is $230. In my case, since I was thinking of testing somewhere a little further out of the city, they told me I'd need to pay for two hours of driving lessons (a total of $300). I was kind of confused about this, since it definitely didn't take two hours to get to the driving site for my road test- it would have actually only required 45 minutes or so. Anyways, they gave me the number of the instructor who was going to be helping me, so I called him (some guy called Jeff), only to have him ignore my texts and my phone call. I called the office again, and they told me afterwards that the instructor wouldn't take my calls because he wasn't directly responsible for dealing with clients (despite them telling me to reach out to him). It started to get to be sort of annoying, so I just decided to go with another driving school. I found another place in the end which offered a one hour lesson plus a road test sponsorship for $150, half the price of GPDS. In conclusion, I think GPDS is fine, but probably a little expensive all things considered, and perhaps not the most organized organization in the city- still, as far as a 5 hour classes go, I would recommend it, since almost all 5 hour classes in the city cost about $50 read more

I have reached out to this driving school multiple times hoping to get driving lessons. I have spoken to Nancy every time and while she is nice and accommodating she has repeatedly promised to call me back to schedule my lessons. I have never received a call. She also appears to be working for this school. While the reviews are very good I will not be pursuing this with them as I thing they are irresponsible and clearly do not need business. I was sold on this driving school immediately based on the person who answered the telephone, Darryl, and based on the high ratings of the driving instructors. When I called, Darryl was so patient and polite. She answered all of my questions and concerns. As for my driving instructor, Augusto.... Augusto is very patient and knowledgeable. He is also punctual. As I drove, he pointed out things I needed to be aware of. He instilled confidence in me. I have only been driving a little while, and he had more confidence in my driving than I had in myself. He took me on the highway on our first lesson because he thought I was ready. I am ready, just scared, that's why I signed up for a 10-hour lesson package. Augusto taught me an amazing technique for parking. He talks to you to help you feel relaxed. I rarely post reviews. I only do so when something is either fantastic or truly awful. This case in the latter. I have worked with half a dozen driving schools and none are as inefficient, rude and poorly run as Grand Prix. During my first session, I had a family emergency and tried to cancel my lesson-admittedly I was within the 24 hour cancellation window, but the customer service rep, Patrick, was not only unwilling to be flexible and help out, he was also rude and seems to lack even an inkling of human empathy/understand of what makes customers want to return. Nevertheless i had a good lesson and decided to give them the benefit of doubt as my instructor was solid. I requested another lesson with the same instructor for a few weeks later. Of course, I was greeted with an entirely new instructor and had to start my lesson from scratch. When I called the company to express my disappointment with the service, once again Patrick and his blazing lack of business savvy ruined the experience by acting like an unsympathetic and unprofessional representative. Not only will I never return, but I urge anyone to think twice before booking here. read more

Hello I just want to say Grand Prix all of school is the best I found them through a reference and I went to the website I did a one hour class with Mr. Jean instructor it was great and I was going to do another one hour class but because I used to drive before but it's been 20 years he suggested I just booked the road test because it comes with an hour and a half session right before the road test and we will just polish up polish up. Guess what once again he was 1000% right I pass the road test with flying colors yesterday I just want to say Mr. Jean is a great super instructor if you listen to him I guarantee you you will pass he knows exactly what they are looking for I'm gonna take you there. also every time I call the office I love the bookers and reception the whole company is just fantastic and they follow up with the information. If they are not there or busy you leave a message they will call you back no matter what and that's what I care about. I took my 5 hour pre-licensing course at Grand Prix. Despite the fact that they charge $50 for the course and I found schools that charged as low as $20, I appreciated the professionalism, convenient location and reliability of the staff. They offer the course almost every day of the week, so there's no need to wait a long time or take off of work because they offer the courses at different times in order to accommodate different people's schedules. I called the morning of a class and was able to reserve a spot. The phone and office manner of the staff is extremely polite and professional. Though the office is nothing beautiful, the screening room for the 5 hour film is very nice, air conditioned and filled with cushy semi-reclining chairs and a decent-sized television. The instructor Tommy has a great sense of humor and is obviously extremely experienced and knowledgeable. He provided us with a lot of good pointers and was able to complete the course in around 3 hours instead of five by asking if we were ok with taking a 15 minute, rather than an hour long, break. I'm glad I took the course with them as it was quick and painless, but their prices are very, very high. That's not to say you don't get top-notch service, but I feel I can learn to drive just as well and pay less. Their packages are the most expensive I'm come across and I've opted to take lessons in a borough in order to save money and get experience in the area I plan to take the road test. read more

I haven't driven for over five years, so brushing up on the driving skills as well as getting pointers on what to do and how to remain calm helped me a great deal. The people at the school were not organized, and often called me several times to ask me the same question. HOWEVER, my driving instructor, Alberto, made up for that AND some. He was the best. He could not have been nicer or more helpful. He was incredibly thorough, and he was very attentive to my specific needs as a driving student. Took the pre-licensing course, a single driving lesson and a car-rental for the test drive. The price for the pre-licensing course was at the high-end, 50$, but the classroom was a very pleasant place with a brand new equipment, a huge TV and comfortable seats. Tommy,the instructor, skipped the unnecessary breaks ans focused on the real relevant material, plus important stuff regarding the paperwork needed which sometimes might be tricky. The driving lesson itself was great - the instructor, Robert, was a very nice person, patient and paid attention to all the small details, commenting about anything with a sense of humor and respect. I had a really good experience, although my lessons weren't with the school in particular, but with one of the driving instructors, Tommy. My husband originally signed me up for Grand Prix because he'd gotten his course and driving test done with them and was happy, but the school refused to give me lessons because I was five months pregnant at the time. I did my five hour course with them and while I was there working out my refund, Tommy offered to do private lessons in his own student driver car. I had my license before and it expired and it took me three times to get it the first time and after I got it, I basically never drove. It had been about 15 years since I had driven when I got my license after relearning with Tommy. He was very kind, relaxed and easy to learn from. He teaches exactly what you need to know to pass the test and he won't let you take the test unless he feels you can pass. He arranged for Grand Prix to get me my testing appointment so that I got it a lot earlier than I would have on my own. I got my license after learning from Tommy on the first try, and I felt really confident and relaxed on my road test. I actually felt like it was a breeze and that was because Tommy really took the time to go over everything really specifically and was very encouraging and positive. I would highly recommend him as an instructor, especially if you have any anxiety or hang ups about driving. I really didn't have any complaints! read more

My son, age 16 took a package including lessons and driving test. He had a consistent instructor (Augusto). For each lesson, he was made to feel confident but also challenged. Augusto was such a kind instructor and patient and also, most importantly, his driving ability increased rapidly. The administrative staff were also very helpful as, at times, we had to reschedule lessons due to his being away at school. On the final day of the test, my son unfortunately learned his grand-father had passed away. I took Gus aside and explained the situation. He somehow helped my son to make it to the test, focus and . . he passed! We are very grateful and hope my daughter soon can take the course as well. read more
